I plan on doing farming/TF's (group pulling as per usual) as a tanker but I am pretty sold on Ice armor but wondering which melee setup to go with. Anyone have good suggestions/builds?

Torchbearer - Aidel : Lvl 50 SJ/Bio Brute

Excelsior - Terzal : Lvl 50 Spines/Fire Brute - Hidal : Lvl 50 PB - Nyath : Lvl 50 SD/WM Brute - Quensha : Lvl 50 WS

In order of synergy (please note, this is opinion based):

Dark Melee, for the -acc debuffs and the double up of healing and endurance recovery

Stone Melee, for all the knockdown (including 2 AoE ones). This puts a big slow down on attacks, which is pretty advantageous for Ice/.

Super Strength, for the same reason as Stone, just a little less abundant.

Ice Melee, for all the crowd control.

 

But it's Ice Armor, which is a really great set (maybe even underrated with all the new sets out there now), and it's going to do well with nearly anything you pair with it.

Apart from perhaps EM secondary, just read on another thread that ET was nerfed!  Just got my ice/em tank to 35.. thinking of rerolling now :(  Ice/energy was really uber but I left the game shortly after that.

I had an Ice/EM tank on live that I loved. The nerfs really ruined the feel of it. I've been through nerfs before and not been upset, but these were a bit heavy handed. I hope they revisit the changes to something more reasonable and less slow.

 

That said, EM and Ice go well, but their synergy wasn't overly phenomenal, other than being two really good power sets. I wouldn't delete your Ice/EM if you're enjoying it though. At worst, just make another Ice/? and play both! :)

Thanks, yes I'm finding things really slow and it just doesn't feel the same.  I will keep this tank but probably roll another Ice/?  soon maybe dark melee.  Just out of interest would you still have your old Ice/Em build around somewhere? Would really appreciate using it as a guide.  Many Thanks  :)

Meh, you're welcome to the "best" one I have on file, but I kind of consider it trash now. Lots of recharge, but not crazy about the slotting. Can't even honestly remember if this I ended up doing this build. Defense bonuses could have been better too. /shrug

Ok, I revisited the Ice/EM build since I couldn't just leave a subpar one out there. I focused on shoring up the fire damage hole as best as possible, while not gimping power enhancements. It has softcap S/L/E/N defense and 34% F/C. With a full hit of Energy Absorption, you can have 41% F/C, and the build can allow you to stack that over the softcap with another full EA. On top of that, you'll have 50% resist to Fire, so you should be sitting pretty so long as Psi isn't an issue.

 

Additionally, while it doesn't have Hasten, you're practically running around with perma-Hasten (without the fear of a crash) at 85% global recharge. There's 53% acc bonus so your punches should land plenty of times. With EA up every 20 secs, you shouldn't have to worry too much about endurance.

 

I've also put in a couple more AoE's with Soul Tentacles and Dark Obliteration.

 

You're only drawback is you've only got Hoarfrost to heal yourself with every 140 seconds. Should sh*t hit the fan though, you have Hibernate as your last resort.

 

[edit] Oh yeah, it's not gonna be a cheap build. So there's that.

I'm sorry, but EM has been trash ever since they changed the Energy Transfer animation way back on live. ET used to be insta-cast (I believe it was the same animation as current Chain Induction on Electric Melee).

 

The claim was that the change was needed to balance pvp. What a joke! Almost nobody plays this game for pvp, then or now.....and I say that as an avid pvper on live. My ice/em tank was my favorite hero to play pve or pvp, and it got shelved after that change.

HC has since improved EM, though this thread was all before that.

I'll put in another vote for ice/dm. So much fun. I considered for about 10 seconds if I should reroll as a Brute but decided against it cause I didn't want to lose anything that makes him awesome. I have 2 end recovery powers, but only use 1, and 2 heals that are never used but nice to have them. He handles all content and can farm really well. 

I have ice/stone as well, but I think stone melee suffers from a decent instacast t9 damage power.

Ice/SS, because you're crazy and want to prove you can

Ice/Staff, because it's just so AoErific

Nothing warms your opponent like Fiery Melee.

I made an Ice/Elec. Mostly because I loved the combo of Chilling Embrace's -rec paired with Elec's -end. And while I don't slot for end drain. Leaving the enemy slowed with no end to do anything with once a power does recharge amuses me greatly.

I used to run an ice/ice as main on live and i always wanted an ice/fire which is what i ended up rolling on HC but it wasn't as much fun as i hoped. My 2 current favourites are an ice/rad and an ice/dark. As expected the rad just has to hang about in mobs and they melt but the new touch of fear is tons of fun on the dark i love the fast recharge time on it.

I have an Ice/Electric. It's pretty fun. No real synergy (well, maybe Chilling Embrace and the end drains from Electric, as was mentioned). I didn't slot for end drain, but I do notice from time to time that my attacks drain end and I receive said end, which helps the blue bar for sure.
