Looking for a True Archer build (Archery/tactical arrow)

Always had a good time reading the Avengers when Hawkeye was part of the team, not quite as enamored with the overly broody Renner portrayal. So in that mindframe, does anyone have a good survivable build for this combo?

 

Any and all advice appreciated, barring the why this combo question or this combo is dumb stuff.

Slightly off-topic, but if you happen to be on Reunion on July 29th, an all archer Mother Ship Raid will commence, spearheaded (...arrowheaded???) by TWANG all archer group.

I hope you find a good build. Tactical Arrow is one of the strongest, though hardly the most popular, secondaries a blaster can have.

This build is good. 

My only stupid gripe is  I would try to rework the build to get Explosive Arrow with a KB to KD proc.  But 13 second recharge on Rain of Arrows is nothing to complain about..  

Explosive Arrow ISN'T going to make or break the build honestly.. Just a personal choice on my end..

You can’t really “replace” Scorpion Shield with anything else.  It’s that good.  Closest you could come to achieving the posted builds’ stats and stay blue side entirely would be Cold Mastery/Ice Armor but even then it will only boost your +DEF to S/L.  Attacks that contain Energy are quite plentiful in the 40+ game, inclusive of iTrials, and Scorpion Shield is just overall a fantastic +DEF buff to S/L/Energy.  

 

If you really are opposed to taking the single trip to Redside for role play or thematic purposes, why not just weave it into your bio as you undertook a secret undercover mission to infiltrate Black Scorpion’s organization and managed to “liberate” the armor for testing by blue-side superhero scientists or something.  Seriously....it’s worth bending the narrative to get Scorpion Shield.

This thread got me playing my A/TA character to try and finish incarnates.  The end drain was pretty bad on my previous build in longer combat scenarios and in order to keep the build I would likely need to replace Clarion with Ageless.  I decided to update the build to keep soft-cap S/L/R, but reduce the end drain.  I replaced Tactics and Assault with Glue Arrow and Super Jump.  I'm actually liking one slot Glue Arrow, but would love to have enough slots to proc it out.  I have a Res dsebuff proc in it now, but may replace it with the Knockdown proc.  Not sure which is better right now.  I also may have over invested in endurance, so will see how this build plays and may adjust further to reclaim a slot or two.

I looked at replacing Fistful of Arrow with Explosive Arrow, but the recharge looked to high to me, so I stuck with FoA.

This thread got me playing my A/TA character to try and finish incarnates.  The end drain was pretty bad on my previous build in longer combat scenarios and in order to keep the build I would likely need to replace Clarion with Ageless.  I decided to update the build to keep soft-cap S/L/R, but reduce the end drain.  I replaced Tactics and Assault with Glue Arrow and Super Jump.  I'm actually liking one slot Glue Arrow, but would love to have enough slots to proc it out.  I have a Res dsebuff proc in it now, but may replace it with the Knockdown proc.  Not sure which is better right now.  I also may have over invested in endurance, so will see how this build plays and may adjust further to reclaim a slot or two.

 

 

I looked at replacing Fistful of Arrow with Explosive Arrow, but the recharge looked to high to me, so I stuck with FoA.

Crysis is right.  On pretty much all my Blaster build I shoot for 45% defense to S/L/R which requires me to go with Scorpion Shield.  I generally justify it with the "going undercover" logic.

Aw, I feel you, those changes were unwarranted.. Now that Agility has been replaced with Oil Slick Arrow, would you advise sticking with the latter or replacing the former with another power?

I don't see the point of scorpion shield for a build whose game plan is to stay at range, yet all the builds I see here have scorpion shield. Do people not know how to move and kite and maintain distance between the player and the mob? And I'm not talking about staying 50 feet or whatever it is people are crying about with the TA adjustments, just enough to keep the mobs chasing/shooting you. Shoot and move, move and shoot, that should be second nature for non-hover blasting range builds. Range defense works whether the mobs are 80 feet from you or if they are 12 feet from you, as long as they are shooting you and not meleeing you it will work. Range defense doesn't care that you are being shot at with lethal/smashing/energy whatever damage, it'll work against all of them. So what's the purpose of investing heavily into S/L defense here? I get scorpion shield for melee blasters and I subscribe to that myself, but you don't need scorpion shield for this build and playstyle.

 

You could go with a resist shield with softcap range defense and the epic holds are much better better proc monsters. The resist shield also allows you to take a hit or 3. /TA lends itself better to proc monster builds and it's still able to maintain decent recharge, acc and defense while doing so. I agree with Nemu (who is sort of the blaster guru).  If your goal is to play a ranged toon, then go for ranged def soft-cap and don't worry as much about S/L. Picking up a resist shield is a great benefit.  The Water/Plant build I've been using (with Nemu's input) accomplished this.  I haven't respecced it around post, i27, but it illustrates the concept.  Soft-cap ranged def (uses Hover, too), with a nice resist shield.

You could go with a resist shield with softcap range defense and the epic holds are much better better proc monsters. The resist shield also allows you to take a hit or 3. /TA lends itself better to proc monster builds and it's still able to maintain decent recharge, acc and defense while doing so. See my i27 Rambo build thread for an example of what I mean.
