Going poetic can help, too.  Everything I could think of for Time or Chrono was taken.  But I got Sandshaper, for someone who sculps the sands of time.

Oh, just go down the columns. "Skullcracker SHattershield." "Sable Regis." "Mynx minx." "Minx jinx" "Vixen Hell Lass." "Rose Cracker." (Hmm. Plant/ice or plant/cold...)

... reminds me.I had Rosy of the Ice. It's an anagram. Can you figure out what of? 🙂

Skullcracker Shattershield sounds like  a Diablo boss.

Time to dig out the thesaurus and find synonyms for "thesaurus".  :classic_wink:

Reference Book Lass sounds to librarian...😛

Sable Drift is an awesome name!  Poetic in sound, and it feels like a special ops code name.

Quite a mouthful.  I'm guessing you're a fan of the name "The Elongated Man"? :classic_tongue:

Okay, I love doing name design.  So just to clarify for my tired, aging brain:  what are we shooting for here?  Just creating a bunch of synonyms that folks can mix 'n match, or building lists of names to toss to the crowd, or waiting for someone to say "help" and give us their character concept?

Thanks, I really like the name myself. 🙂

As for the purpose of the thread, I think it's intended purpose is like the Costume Request Thread but for folks that need help with names rather than help creating/updating costumes for their character.

Though there are tonnes of helpful tips here too.

Oubli' got it.  My intent was for people to post -requests- for name suggestions based on theme/concept.

But looks like the people who want to help got ahead of the game and just started posting general advice and tips.

So, hey!  At least the community is eager to help!  That's good news!

If by 'eager to help' you mean 'please, someone use this name/idea/concept before I make another bloody alt' I think you hit the nail on the head 😝

Now, if you want rather dramatic, poetic names... Names of the sort you'd find in wuxia fiction, or... well... attached to Exalted characters... Many, many moons ago my friend Voidstate came up with this:

http://www.voidstate.com/name_generator/

And then there's this:

https://www.fantasynamegenerators.com/hero_names.php

And this...

https://www.seventhsanctum.com/generate.php?Genname=superheronameorg

And somewhere out there, there's one that does "Adjective Animal" style names... Which is how I ended up with Don Gallo, my swashbuckling "Ruthless Rooster". XD

(ETA: I'll post that one's URL if I can find it again.)

And sometimes German, with its agglutinative nouns, works  really well; I picked 'Steuerstab' ('Control Rod') for a Rad/Mace Brute I created recently; I liked it better than 'Kontrollstång' (Swedish), 'Styrestang' (Danish), 'Stýri stöng' (Icelandic), and 'Ohjaussauva' (Finnish); the Italian, Spanish, and French versions were all rather clunky, although 'Te Raakau Mana' (Maori) was tempting.

Hate to be the buzzkill here, but giving characters names in languages you don't understand is pregnant with the possibility of going very wrong.  Also, Google Translate is utterly incompetent in Latin.  Please, folks, I'm right here.  I'd be happy if you run it by me first before committing to the Latin name of your supergroup.

That said, I'm tempted to look at Outrider_01's list  to figure out what are the worst possible names I can make using it.  "Challenge accepted".

Burn Skull

Cracker Rose

Sovereign Hell

Heart Jinx

Regis Wicked

Come on.  You know you can do worse.

I mean, City of Heroes is great and all, @Greycat . . . but I think I still like the Shy Erotic Foe more.

(I kid!   I kid.   . . . although I wonder what anagram silliness we can get up to with "City of Villains"  After all, Redside is Best Side!)

Don't forget semi-obscure, public domain media references...

Once upon a time I took to naming some of my gang after opera characters, for instance. There are some fun names to be had there, even if you aren't a particular fan of the music. (I am, so that just added an extra bit of fun for me. And it always made me grin when someone else recognized where Sarastro or Coppelius or Amneris' name came from. XD)

Find an opera character who reminds you somehow of the character you're making, and have at it. "Figaro" was great for a flashy Sonic blaster with a high opinion of their own opinion. "Falstaff" was perfect for a big guy all about the Wine, Women and Song when busting bad guys was done. My "Rosenkavalier" was a handsome, young and slightly daft Broadsword/Shield scrap in formal dress and a domino mask...  There's a lot of inspiration to be had if you go looking for it.

+1. All of my new names are references to avant-garde classical pieces or obscure black metal bands or something else like that. I basically never have a problem with names being taken. People are way too busy running generic names through a thesaurus to even scratch the surface of these sorts of names.

I just came here to say, European black metal bands make great villain names.  I have Opeth Hellhammer and Deathspell Omega.  I might make a Kheldian named Ufomammutt.

Cracker Rose

Sounds like a Street Justice/Something Brute.

Or maybe a Staff/Something Brute.

A Brute of some sort...

Might have to make that one to go along with Sniper Rose, Thunder Rose, and Psychic Fairy Rose.

Yes, I have a Bouquet or Roses...

Also, I would like to thank Outrider_01 for Thunder Rose. 🙂

If you replace Tank with a different four letter word, apparently.  Like what I would (totally not) say to all the baddies who try to burn me in fire farms 😁

Erm, if people substitute words, you're not to blame.

"I solemnly swear to tell the *****, the whole *****, and nothing but the *****, so help me ***!"

Go in good conscience, it's not you with the problem, it's those *****.

By that logic though,  anything could be offensive though.  Don't give them that power.

TankYou is yours and you can decide what it is.

Personally I don't think it's the least bit offensive to anyone reasonably minded.
