Doc Ranger Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Trying to decide which AT to put these sets together for. Team focused build but I like to do dmg as well. I have an Ice blaster so I know the set fairly well. But should I play a Corr version or Defender? Thanks! A bunch of toons. Global DocRanger All on Excelsior.
Darkir Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 I'd nudge you toward a water/cold corruptor as you can still be roughly in theme with those pairings and the heal in dehydrate will let you solo +4x8. Both the corr and def versions of this combo can softcap pos defense and so you get just a little bit more dmg with the corruptor, but a lot more resistance on the defender. So, I would go cold/ice defender or water/cold corruptor. Of course, I would recommend dark mastery for both, but if you plan to go leviathan mastery for theme or something, then definitely go defender. 1
DreadShinobi Posted August 28, 2020 Posted August 28, 2020 Sleet offers the same -res whether youre playing a defender or corruptor and Heat Loss offers a mere -6% less resistance debuffing than a defender for corruptors. Benumb offers the same -regen for both archetypes. By endgame the shields provide more than enough defense buffing at just baseslot for lotg muling. Now corruptors have higher base damage, a higher damage cap, and have low hp critting via scourge that synergizes strongly with rain powers - ice storm and blizzard. While defenders have a number of sets that work better on their archetype like poison or storm, cold domination is not one of those sets, and works much better for corruptors that bring similar debuff values and much more damage. Fire/Cold is my personal favorite corruptor build, alongside Fire/Kin Corrs, but Ice and Water blasting are also good combinations for a cold domination corruptor. Soul Drain from Dark Mastery is also highly recommended as noted, though sadly oppressive gloom does not stack in with the holds from ice blast. Currently on fire.

Doomguide2005 Posted August 30, 2020 Posted August 30, 2020 (edited) Flip a coin? Or roll both. Or put another way they're so close that when teamed you'll have real trouble seeing the difference as you reach 40+ and both have all their powers. Edited August 30, 2020 by Doomguide2005
Psylenz0511 Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 I am a big fan of defenders, but I think Ice/Cold corruptor is the way to go for the presented two sets. The biggest factor for me is scourge in ice storm, sleet, and blizzard 1

Epoch Paradox Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 I took this build out for a spin with a fire/kin corr and spine/fire brute running a fire farm. Devastation ensued yet I don't pretend to really know what I'm doing... Max Firepower Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 Player both - Ice/Cold when CoV came out, and Ice/Cold when I found HC a few months ago. they BOTH are amazingly cool. 😉 The Corr version is mean, tough, and brings it. The Defender is keeping the team totally cool, and is very effective at debuffing the baddies. Nice combo no matter what side you choose.
Strawberry Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 (edited) Both Ice and Cold are two sets I would heavily recommend the Corruptor over Defender. I'm not saying it can't work as a Defender, but the defense loss from the shields doesn't really matter since late game most people hit or come close to defense cap anyways. As another poster said, Sleet is the same -res for both Cor/Def, and Heat Loss only slightly less effective as a Corruptor. Meanwhile in Ice, you are playing a set with a rain power that benefits nicely from Corruptor extra damage. A poster above mentioned Scourge doesn't work with Sleet and Ice Storm. I think Sleet they might be correct, which is weird because it should, but I think it does work with Ice Storm. Blizzard for sure triggers it unless something changed that I'm unaware of in a patch on Homecoming. It actually makes Blizzard almost as strong as a Blaster when used by a Corruptor.
