If that cat knows where you sleep...seems unwise...does the cat think the human in this case is toxic, or a benevolent snack/toy giver, I wonder...seems like a big gamble with my soft fleshy parts...and now I want crackers...

If you're hungry enough, almost anything can be food. Just depends how much effort you want to put into chewing.

Which reminds me . . . I've heard tell of a place in the world where food is so scarce that they use the otherwise abundant-to-the-area clay as a filler ingredient in their baking to help them feel full.

Scarce?  Have you looked at some of the bread you have?  Contains cellulose?  That's wood pulp!

Just did a little searching, and seems it was Haiti which was the place where the food shortage had caused people to resort to eating clay.  And ends up that it's not being used a filler, but rather something on its own just to make the person feel full.

As for additives in food products, yeah.   I work in a kitchen.  I could tell you some stories.  The stuff people eat without knowing it . . . well, here's to hoping that world hunger problems are dealt with first and foremost, but also issues related to inedible by-products and ingredients gets dealt with as information becomes more widespread.

I live in the EU (until the end of December!) and the amount of additives we ban compared to the FDA is insane...in a really good way.

And I in Canada.

There are some upsides and some downsides in that regard.

For example, trichinosis in Canada is essentially non-existent compared to our southern neighbour.

Meanwhile, when listing additives as ingredients on processed foods, there are some rather critically concerning ingredients in Canada which just get lumped under "artificial flavouring," which are at least given their scientific chemical names in the u.s. version of the packaging.

I'm not sure how Canada does it but the regulations here are based on "it must be proven to be safe before human consumption is allowed" vs "We'll ban it after enough people complain and /or get ill/die."

Sauté the Spam/Treat/whatever in a skillet.  Flip, sauté the other side and remove when both sides are slightly crispy.  Lightly caramelize some rough-diced white or yellow onion in the same skillet.  When the onion is nearly finished, push it to the side and fry up a few eggs, over easy.

Serve the eggs over the Spam/Treat/whatever, top with the caramelized onion.  Season to taste.  I recommend going light on the salt, the canned meat is already going to be pretty salty.  The caramelized onion will counter that with sweetness, both flavors complement the egg.
