Lost character after name change

I successfully changed the name of my character but after clicking ok, the character is now missing from the  list. The number of characters I have created is the same but if you count the number of visible characters on the server, there is one missing.

With COH offline go to the folder where Homecoming is installed. Inside that folder you will see a folder with your Log In Username or names if you have more than 1 account, open that folder and click on playerslot, it should automatically open the data with I believe Notepad if using windows. Check the list there, if not there delete playerslot and connect to the game and it will recreate the folder for you, then check for your missing Character.

Yes, sometimes they end up occupying the same slot in the character list. You can try moving each one (if you don't have a lot of toons) until you "uncover" the toon in question. Or if you follow Marine X's instructions, your character list will be reset in the order your toons were created, and you should find your MIA toon.
