When I first started playing this game, I started a stalker first and was incredibly frustrated with the experience back then. There were no IOs or ATOs to make up for the holes in builds and although I could solo missions quickly solo, it was very slow XP. I also never felt I was much help on a team. I eventually switched to playing a corruptor and enjoyed it much much more. 

 

I tried to make a stalker with great AOE, great ST, good survivability, with something useful for the team. I needed softcapped s/l and good s/l resists too. This is what I came up with and its been pretty successful. I can solo cimorrea missions at +4x8 and do both S/L and fire farms if I want to. I also have Fireball for improved AoE (%50 crit chance outta hide) and melt armor with an achilles proc to help out the team a bit. I can use DNA siphon every 25-30 seconds to get my endurance back, which was needed for exemplaring if I still want to use the proc'd out savage leap (I do, I really really do). With Hemorrhage being nerfed into the ground on stalkers, we don't really need to take it anymore (its still good dmg from hide, but its not amazeballs now). So, instead our ST dps chain becomes a lot quicker and because of this change we still want a big hitter to follow AS, so we change to Mu, losing melt armor, but gaining a snipe attack. We also exchange fireball for ball lightning, which is a minor dps loss, but really not worth worrying about. We still want to be useful in a group though and so we pick up genetic corruption to lower everything's dmg and put minions to sleep (and we pray that it sometimes, just sometimes, messing up my AS hide proc is me being crazy as it is supposed to suppress with hide).

 

Now, zapp also has a 24% chance of proccing a build up, so if the stars align we can cap our dmg for maybe two seconds (^_^). This makes our assault power pickup hard to justify even for the team, so we drop it for super speed. We also move the slots that were in hemorrhage to boundless energy to place panacea (putting numinas in health now) for a net HP regen increase of about 9 hp/s and a small endurance rate gain. Finally, we gain an "oh, shit" button in parasitic aura.

 

Overall, I think this is a vast improvement and it only cost us a small dps loss by losing hemorrhage (and a little team buffs with the loss of melt armor).

 

I checked the times on pylon and the average out of five is 2:03 with this newest version using hybrid+destiny, but no lore.

@Darkir As always, your builds are awesome, thanks for sharing. A couple of q's:

 

1. Having never played Bio, why pass on Genetic Corruption and Parasitic Aura?

2. What's your Incarnate choices?

3. How do you get around without a travel power?

I don't take the sleep one because it seems like it messes with my hide proc....I tested it a whole lot on and it seems to mess it up sometimes....it could be superstition though. In the end, I mostly don't need parasitic aura as I can get my end back and I always have the extra absorb shield and hp regen from ablative carapace. Its a nice panic button, but I can't perma it and so I prefer to just always make sure ablative carapace is up.

Ok, I think I've got all 3 of you covered with this new version I just worked up. With Hemorrhage being nerfed into the ground on stalkers, we don't really need to take it anymore (its still good dmg from hide, but its not amazeballs now). So, instead our ST dps chain becomes a lot quicker and because of this change we still want a big hitter to follow AS, so we change to Mu, losing melt armor, but gaining a snipe attack. We also exchange fireball for ball lightning, which is a minor dps loss, but really not worth worrying about. We still want to be useful in a group though and so we pick up genetic corruption to lower everything's dmg and put minions to sleep (and we pray that it sometimes, just sometimes, messing up my AS hide proc is me being crazy as it is supposed to suppress with hide).

 

Now, zapp also has a 24% chance of proccing a build up, so if the stars align we can cap our dmg for maybe two seconds (^_^). This makes justifying our assault power pickup hard to justify even for the team, so we drop it for super speed. We also move the slots that were in hemorrhage to boundless energy to place panacea (putting numinas in health now) for a net HP regen increase of about 9 hp/s and a small endurance rate gain. Finally, we gain an "oh, shit" button in parasitic aura.

 

Overall, I think this is a vast improvement and it only cost us a small dps loss by losing hemorrhage (and a little team buffs with the loss of melt armor).

In terms of soloing cimorrea misions with my previous build, make sure you get your accolades, don't be afraid to pop inspirations if you get into trouble, and always focus on the those healer motherfuckers first (savage leap to those assholes). There is no definite rotation with my build as most of the tools you have are reactive, so make sure you keep ablative carapace up, use your dna siphon when you need it or to get regen from dead bodies before leaping to the next group, and try to only fight 2 bosses at a time. With the above build soloing these missions should be easier as you have more regen and the added -dmg aura from genetic corruption, but I imagine it can still get dicey. Soloing cimmorrea at +4x8 requires you to stay on your toes.

In terms of soloing cimorrea misions with my previous build, make sure you get your accolades, don't be afraid to pop inspirations if you get into trouble, and always focus on the those healer motherfuckers first (savage leap to those assholes). There is no definite rotation with my build as most of the tools you have are reactive, so make sure you keep ablative carapace up, use your dna siphon when you need it or to get regen from dead bodies before leaping to the next group, and try to only fight 2 bosses at a time. With the above build soloing these missions should be easier as you have more regen and the added -dmg aura from genetic corruption, but I imagine it can still get dicey. Soloing cimmorrea at +4x8 requires you to stay on your toes.

Unfortunately, I would say that SM/Bio outclasses Elec/Shield in almost everyway. With a proc'd out savage leap the AoE potential for SM is just better than even electrics fantastic AoE set, because directly after using SM into the middle of a pack you can AS>Rending flurry boosting  the radius of rending flurry to 15, which is far superior to thunderstrike's 7 radius. Shield also doesn't have a single heal to help it live, just lots of defense and DDR. I mean, you can shield charge into a pack then use lightning rod and thunderstrike, but I just don't think it will be as good as savage leap > rending flurry because of the cooldowns. The proc damage on savage leap is so good that you use it at point blank range for ST dmg and -res debuffs and its up every 10-15 seconds, compared to shield charge and lightning rod's 20-30 seconds (even with all the FF recharge procs you are likely to get). Then your ST attack chain will also be better on SM over Elec. Shield does have grant cover (the best team buff a stalker has access too!!!) and for that shield charge I made a SM/Shield, but even with all the teleporting around, it just isn't as survivable because of a lack of healing. 

 

Edit: if you are farming on a stalker or in situations where mobs are tightly packed, elec's AoE is phenomenal, but in normal play I really think savage leap takes the cake. PLUS ITS SO FUN!

How's savage on scraps or tanker or brute? Does the dot crit for scrappers? 

 

Savage and bio are fantastic on brutes. I assume they are also good on tanks and scrappers. The dot does not crit for anyone anymore 😞

 

I think stalkers get the best version of savage melee, but brutes get the best version of bio armor (the inherent taunt auras mixed with the toxic dot+fury).

Nice build.  This one appeals to me enough to want to try it, but not to spend that much 🙂

 

Here is my stab at a modification to remove the purples for a solo/levelling verision.  I managed to get is soft capped for S/L/E/N/F/C and near cap for melee.  S/L resist still at 62%.  The compromise was that it lost a solid chunk of recharge.

 

I also added in Power Transfer Chance to heal self to Stamina and Boundless Energy because I like the passive healing.

 

This is my first time trying to export from Mids so hopefully this works correctly.

So my new favourite trick is to Buildup --> Throw a Ball Lightening into the mob -->  Savage Leap --> Giggle like a girl as the Ball Lightening + Savage Leap land at the same time and decimate the mob

I think Stalker's Guile ATO set should go into Assassin's Frenzy, so you get a second big attack out of hide if the proc goes off. maybe it doesn't matter anymore. Anybody else know?

Hmm.  Good point.  While I was tinkering with that I also moved Superior Assassin's Mark to Rending Flurry and switched Maiming Slash to Kinetic combat.  I used the extra slots for the KC knockdown proc for fun (haven't tried this in game yet).  

 

I also shifted Zapp to Superior Winter's Bite (pricey) to free up a slot for the 4th proc in Savage leap.  Probably worth the cost if I keep this one long term, but it also loses some S/L resist.  Still have all the previous soft caps.

 

Finally, I tweaked the power order a bit to get Superspeed and Combat Jumping in earlier for ease of getting around while levelling.  I levelled the new toon to 27 last night solo in a couple of hours on AE content.  She does seem to demolish the elite bosses in the Bads/Tunnel Witches AE missions more effectively that any of my prior alts.  So far so good.  Going to shift to Heart of Hollows Part 4 next to generate merits (i.e., 30 merits/20-25 min) to try to keep this one self-funding.

General PSA: when you want to get my attention on a thread of mine, please quote me so I know. I only check the corruptor forums daily and I don't a notification if someone simply responds to a thread of mine. I originally posted this and then it just sat here for 2 months with no replies and I just figured no one was interested. 

 

 

In terms of your build, you seem to be under the impression that the softcap is 40%, when it is 45%. Now, in terrms of your build and trying to save money, I have changed your build a bit. We can split our ATO to get +5% s/l def and 15% acc (which you actually needed more of) twice. We lose 10% global recharge, but that is a perfectly good price to pay for the bonuses. One power transfer is worth about 3 hp/sec, but it can't proc more than once at the same time, so the more you add, the less hp/sec you get on return. What this means for /bio is that a single +5 health IO in boundless energy is worth more hp/sec than one power transfer and it will never be worth adding more than one power transfer to a build. We also get more endurance recovery from boundless energy than we do from stamina, so we throw our +end enhancement there instead of stamina. 

 

Next, we change assassin's frenzy slotting to make sure we get the least amount of recharge in there so that it still procs well because we want to get our hide proc as much as possible and we add some more procs to really boost the dmg. We add a +5 dmg/end enhancement instead of another proc because  there are times we may want to start with it from hide and so the extra +dmg is needed and it is also a pretty end heavy power to use in our ST rotation.

 

We don't want to add any recharge into savage leap because it is already at an 89% chance to proc without any recharge (3.5 ppm), but if we add any recharge it starts going down quickly. We also add a -20% res proc because we want to do this combination at the start of most mob fights build up>ball lightning>savage leap>assassin's frenzy>rending flurry and if the procs I added in both ball lightning and savage leap land the mob will be at -32% resistance (the proc in ball lightning only has a 44% chance to land) when that 5 blood charged rending flurry lands and the rending flurry can crit too.

 

We don't care about the extra 7.5% speed boost we get from kinetic combat 5 slotted and the knockdown proc won't land much in those powers so we take that out to use elsewhere.

I think I see where I made my error.  It's probably a noob error on my part being new to stalkers, but I wasn't aware that Mids is adding an extra 5% defense for Hide rather than showing the base supressed number mentioned in the text description.  So my totals were showing lots of 45%+ for the typed damages.  Doh! 

 

Anyway, thanks for straightening that out!  

 

One question, is Boxing actually useful with this build?  Or is it more just a mule for the S/L IO set?

On my /Bio Stalker (primary is Spines), I found that DNA Siphon is a very nice, nasty PBAoE with this slotting. It is an effort to bump up its Accuracy (see also set bonus) while relying on Global Recharge to keep the %proc chances at the ceiling... and also not ignore that it is a key element of Survivability. By itself, it isn't much of a damage dealer, but with the %procs it is quite good at softening up large spawns.

 

The following are simply offered as another player's alternate choices: I typically invest fewer slots in Defense powers than other players, and it is rare that I put extra slots in Health & Stamina when a primary or secondary offers Regeneration and/or Recovery options. I also don't solo ITF at +4x8.

 

Level 28: DNA Siphon

  • (A) Touch of the Nictus - Accuracy/Endurance/Recharge: Level 50
  • (39) Touch of the Nictus - Accuracy/Healing: Level 50
  • (40) Touch of the Nictus - Chance for Negative Energy Damage: Level 50

38 is too late? Any power before your last can get 6 slots.

 

FWIW, on my SS/Bio Brute I stuck 5 slots worth of Mocking Beratement in Parasitic Aura because of the 4 and 5 piece defense bonuses. Yeah, you'll draw aggro. At the point where you're popping a T9 you probably already have it anyway, so no loss there.

On my build (Spines/Bio), I only have 2 extra slots (beyond the initial slots that come with a power pick) at 38 and above. I've invested all of the other slots in earlier power picks. One of those two 38+ slots is in Hasten, my actual lvl 38 power pick. I could have Hasten earlier if I wanted, but this character has a concept that required Fly as a travel power, and even there I delayed that choice until lvl 14. I don't really miss Hasten at lower levels.

 

This is just my opinion, but the tools that a /Bio Stalker needs to excel are all available at-and-before level 32.

 

As far as aggro... I enjoy having/taking aggro on many of my characters... but waiting for a T9 secondary for a Taunt effect means (to me):

  • I won't consider it a "core" part of the character, as it won't be available for most content
  • By the time (in levels) I could have it, other PUGmates who actually specialize in Taunts had better have a better Taunt than my Stalker.

I do have a /SR Stalker with Provoke (Presence pool) at level 20 with 6xMocking Beratement. That character's defenses are high enough (except for AoE) at low levels that I the Taunt can actually help by keeping aggro from other squishies (when other PUGmates don't have Taunts). If I didn't want Unrelenting for the /SR Stalker, I probably would have skipped Provoke, but to be honest I'm not sure what I'd do with that character's 3 extra power picks and 10 extra slots.

But that has nothing to do with when Parasitic Aura comes available. You're spending slots you get after level 38 on powers you got before those levels and Parasitic Aura is one of those powers. And to be sure, I do not have a problem with you doing whatever is appropriate for your build. It just seemed strange to lay not slotting Parasitic Aura on when it came available to you. Had it come at level 10 you would not have any more or less opportunity to 6-slot it was my point.

If you consider things before level 38 most of the content, that's fine. Its subjective in my book. Sure, there is a stupid ton of content out there available before level 38 (or 39 when you'd be able to really slot Parasitic Aura with Mocking Beratement) but I have only heard of a very few number of  people who try to play every story arc. Most people just level and adapt to the content fitting for their level. I will note it take 5,648,749 xp to reach level 38 and 39,149,119 xp to reach level 50. If we ignore veteran levels at level 38 you've only gained roughly 15% of the experience you'd need to reach level 50. But that is somewhat disingenuous since at higher levels you earn more xp. Still, given I do see people running around with multiple hundreds of veteran levels there is a valid argument that you're far from mostly done with content at that point even accounting for exemplaring down. 

 

But two things:

  1. I did not suggest taking Mocking Beratement or the T9 for taunt purposes. I noted that it would taunt but the purpose was (for me) the defenses. I noted that it taunting was of minimal consequence because in the situation where you're using a T9 you have something beating on you (otherwise you would not be using the power, you'd be resting).
  2. If you want to taunt things, your primary set gives you that ability (probably in your teens). As you note, you don't take it and outside my Tankers I don't tent to take it either.

The thing which  might be offputting for a Bio Stalker taking Mocking Beratement in the same fashion I did on my Brute is that a Stalker is not a Brute and not generally expected to be quite so survivable (not that they cannot be crazy survivable--just the expectation is Brutes will do survivability better given higher resistance caps).
