Clave Dark 5 Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 So here's a build I've cobbled together that I'd like opinions on. Goals I wanted to make a strongly magic-using stalker, because straight melee gets boring, and I've always wanted to try out Sorcery in-depth anyway. I'm willing to sacrifice a bit because I'm not generally a min/max monster, but... I will listen to advice before possibly ignoring it, ha ha. I don't want petless MM levels of gimp (apologies to any petless MMs out there!), but this doesn't have to be the ultimate min/max either. I also tried to not go crazy purple this and Superior that (kind of failed I guess) because I'm cheap, don't have tons of cash, and want to play just fine at lower levels as well as into the endgame. I also wanted to skip the usual Tough+Weave because I hate having to toss away three perfectly good power choices on non-pew-pew-pew fun (and the less said about a useless Boxing/Kick pick the better). I'm not a super Mids' user either, so I have questions about how the build will function (or not): Any glaring slotting errors you can spot ("go with Crushing Impact here instead of Oblits")? Did I woefully under-slot anything? How useful is Parry, both it in upper and lower levels? So far at about 20th level, I've been popping it early in a combat and then later to fill attack chain gaps, should I be thinking differently about it? Will this work OK at lower levels? Should any of the slot placements be moved about to hurry up and slot X and hold off on Y and Z until later? Is there too much KB protection? What's a decent number to shoot for there? What about those one slotters near the end, Superior Conditioning and Physical Perfection, will those function decently enough? I know the usual advice is to take the build for a spin on the test server, but my play time's really too limiting for that, so.. I turn to you! Have at it! Carnifax Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 (edited) Stamina looks way overslotted. NRG is weird that way. You struggle to 28 / 35, then suddenly you never worry about Endurance ever again. Word of warning, Sorcery in general isn't great. I've tried it on multiple controllers now. Arcane Bolt is slow and Enflame is frankly crap but concept trumps all. Rune of Protection is decent on squishies as a break free but since you've got mez protection not sure you need it (Carni has it because the travel power suits her and Spirit Ward is handy as a save, RoP is amazing for her, but she's an Illusion/Dark controller and needs the mez protection). One good additional option for "magic" might be Energy torrent. You have the Epic anyway and it's quick to cast and can take Overwhelming to become a knockdown and a Forced Feedback. Clave Dark 5 Posted December 2, 2020 Author Posted December 2, 2020 I was wondering that about the End. I know Broad Sword is heavy on it and at 20 or so I am seeing that if it takes a while to take care of a mob of foes. This build does look pretty good, so I might go this route; thanks for taking the time to put it together. Carnifax Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 Like I said EA sucks End-wise til 28, then it's manageable as long as you treat the heal as both a heal and an End tool. Then 35 rolls around and you forget all about it. 1 My level 50 builds [Bullitt Time : DP/Kin Corruptor] [Carnifax : Ill/Dark Controller] [Kerriae : Plant/Storm Controller] [Echinoderm : Bio/Spines Tank] [Iron Brew : Mace/Rad Brute] [Snookered : Staff/NRG Brute] [iScream : Ice/Ice Scrapper] [Binman : Savage/Shield Stalker] [Modul-8 : Time/Sonic Defender] [Concussion Blast : Fire/NRG Domi] [Orblivion : Dark/Martial Domi] [Mombie : Necro/Nature MM] [Tempore : Water/Time Blaster] [Thermodynamic Flux : Ice/Fire Blaster] [Carni's Online CombatLog Parser Alpha]
Carnifax Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 (edited) It might also be worth experimenting and seeing if Winters Sets can help, since they're cheap at the moment. Normally I don't bother with them but for survivability they might add a bit in terms of melee defense. EA, like most Typed Defense sets, doesn't like ranged Psi. Dunno how to close that gap. Mind you you're a Stalker so the solution usually involves "Critting AOE from hide> Assassins Strike > most powerful single target attack > Dead" Edited December 2, 2020 by Carnifax 1 My level 50 builds [Bullitt Time : DP/Kin Corruptor] [Carnifax : Ill/Dark Controller] [Kerriae : Plant/Storm Controller] [Echinoderm : Bio/Spines Tank] [Iron Brew : Mace/Rad Brute] [Snookered : Staff/NRG Brute] [iScream : Ice/Ice Scrapper] [Binman : Savage/Shield Stalker] [Modul-8 : Time/Sonic Defender] [Concussion Blast : Fire/NRG Domi] [Orblivion : Dark/Martial Domi] [Mombie : Necro/Nature MM] [Tempore : Water/Time Blaster] [Thermodynamic Flux : Ice/Fire Blaster] [Carni's Online CombatLog Parser Alpha]

Carnifax Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 It gives a nice chunk of resist, but since it's not perma and you don't need the main benefit it's dubious. Mu is very good for a Stalker with the quick snipe and ball lightning. Dunno if crackily lightning suits your char though. Clave Dark 5 Posted December 6, 2020 Author Posted December 6, 2020 Not so much, that's why I was thinking maybe Soul. If nothing else, the hold is very flashy and you don't see it taken too often (or at least I haven't). Plus popping Shadow Meld on stalker is fun; I had it on my main stalker back on live (Course I didn't know as much about set-usage and so on back then).
