graeberguinn Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 Illusion noob planning my build. Still debating in my head what secondary I want to go with (reading forums presents to many good options). But I'm mostly set on taking superior invisibility for personal reasons. Question is :: what other stealth powers can you run with it? IE: group invis, shadow fall, fade, steamy mist, artic fog. What can run in tandem with superior invis? Are any of these options better than superior invis for def/res they provide? And will powers like Super speed or sprint with celerity add additional benefit? Or are they overkill redundant and not necessary. What are pros/cons of each power? What if any can effect pets? And What do you personally prefer and why? Thanks in advance for helping an atl-a-holic noob out.
dsrghrom Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 I only took SI on my illu/rad. I tried GI but didn't like. Fantasm suicides every time you cast him and GI didn't help at all. Also stealth is bad in escort missions, for that I just detoggle my SI. I've been in groups who where complaining when I used GI so just respected out of it.
Doomguide2005 Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 (edited) And note that Superior Invisibility is utterly massive overkill in PvE (200ft). The only things that will see you ignore stealth. You take Perception and subtract Stealth. Anything coming up at 0 or less won't see you even if you jump up and down waving in their face. Positive numbers indicate the distance at which they'll see you (react/aggro) up to the limits of their perception. Snipers at 149 ft have the greatest Perception ... which is still 51 feet shy of 200. Edited December 3, 2020 by Doomguide2005
oedipus_tex Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 Been a while since I played Illusion Control, but I believe the benefit of Superior Invisibility is the invisibility doesn't suppress while you are fighting. Because of this you can fight one group of enemies while standing in another group of enemies and the ones you're standing near won't alert or attack you. Note however that PA and the Phantasm still aggro these enemies and they can attack you even though you technically still have Stealth radius. It's mainly just a bit of added insurance against aggroing enemies in groups you're not ready to fight. On live, many years ago, Illusion Controllers occasionally ran a few steps ahead of the team stacking Confuse on bosses using this feature. I could be remembering incorrectly or it could have changed since then, of course.

Actually I've noticed a lot of the stealths work this way now (won't suppress while fighting), which is something I didn't notice on live, so not sure it is new, or just didn't realize it. I'm talking steamy mist, shadowfall, and arctic fog anyway. I tend to monitor PvE stealth radius from combat attributes now and notice the stealth from celerity +stealth IO will drop when I attack, but none of those will (so I go from 65ft down to 35ft of stealth). Pretty sure dark armor's cloak of darkness also doesn't suppress although that isn't one I've tested anytime recently. 35 ft not nearly as much as the 200ft of SI of course, but still enough to easily prevent accidental aggro of a nearby 2nd mob group most of the time, which can be very nice at times. Correct, the stealth aura powers don't suppress. If you have multiple players running them the owner and the team are invisible the same as Improved Invisibility works as long as they stay in radius.

Wait, so stuff like Steamy Mist does not suppress when fighting? That can't be right. On 12/3/2020 at 11:19 AM, graeberguinn said: Thanks in advance for helping an atl-a-holic noob out. As has been said, Superior Invisibility is sufficient to hide you from anything that cannot see through stealth completely. As a newbie Illusion user, I still get a kick of running around absolutely aggro free anywhere I want. One thing to note, BEWARE OF AOES. SI can make one pretty cocky, and suddenly, you're blundering into a mountain of explosions. That can hurt. 1

The stealth in Steamy Mist does not suppress in PVE but does in PVP. What you may be thinking of is the stealth in Celerity +Stealth or in Super Speed, which people often combo with Steamy Mist to get a form of invisibility. I believe both of these suppress during combat.(less sure about Celerity). So, if you are relying on Steamy Mist plus one of these your Stealth radius will be 35ft, which is not enough to make you fully invisible.
Doomguide2005 Posted December 23, 2020 Posted December 23, 2020 Only two things, by themselves, make one undetectable to everything in the PvE game that doesn't straight up ignore stealth. Hide (150ft) and Superior Invisibility (200ft). The list grows much longer if all you want to remain undetected by is minions, lts, bosses and AVs.
Zepp Posted December 31, 2020 Posted December 31, 2020 Superior Invisibility is the best stealth power in the game (just be careful, the threat level reduction suppresses in combat or when you click a glowie). GI stacks with other stealth powers, so if you have a reasonable team, it will be a welcome buff. It also offers the threat reduction (suppresses in combat), so it is possible to allow an entire team to run to the end of a mission map for speed runs. Support Pool stealth powers stack with GI and offer resists, making them great for team combat stealth.
