SR/Claws Tanker, advice?

Hey there,

 

So my altitis is flaring up again.  The plan this time is to take an old Mids for a Claws/SR Scrapper, and flip her around as a Tanker.

 

1) Any general feedback on this powerset combo for Tankers?

2) On Tanker SR, where is the auravoke hiding?  I didn't see it anywhere.

So one of the best things about SR on Tanks is how high you can push your Def.  My Mids build is showing me 4% more Def to Melee/Range/AoE than I have.  I swapped a few set bonuses out for procs. I tried to push my S/L resistance up and fill in passive recovery and regen. 

 

With so little needed to get to Defense caps you can take the build any way you like. Perhaps massive recharge.

I'll reiterate my question from above, though: where's the auravoke?  I was pretty sure Tanker SR has one but none of the power descriptions said anything about that.

I missed that part.  I'm pretty sure its evasion, but don't quote me on that yet.

So I took a look, and the below is basically me pulling apart my Scrapper from 2010, and remaking her as a Tanker with some 2020/HC practices.  She's nothing fancy but she Incarnate-caps without using Alpha, so I think she's off to a fine start.  🙂

Thanks for confirming.  I actually doped that out last night.  Got her up to 19ish then, and she's already pretty great. 

 

I've gotta say with the Tanker boosts to AOEs, Spin is absolutely roomy as far as the area it hits.  😁

Its extremely min maxed. Very high AoE, ST and survivability.

 

ST rotation:

 

Follow Up, Shockwave, Evis

Follow Up, Gloom, Focus, Slash

 

The flat -res procs in Shockwave and Evis make up for the DPS loss. Has 2 main AoEs but with KD and Evis as a filler.

 

Solid resists before Darkest Night and +resist procs (should of 2 stacks up most of the time) . Incarnate softcap defence with Blessing of Tielekku.

 

Currently just need to finish my Incarnates off.

(Just chiming in again for S&Gs, she's up to 25, and using nothing but Common IOs so far, she's up to like 38% 36% defense for all positionals.  She's gonna be a beast!) 😁

 

EDIT: Perils of going from memory.  Still pretty nice.

Just comparing the math with some other Tanker builds I have and what they reached it should sub 3 mins the question is by how much.

So earlier today I posted something about an underperforming SR/Claws tanker, but apparently I did so without looking down the page to see this. I am a forum noob! I scourge myself with nettles in penitence.

 

But in the meantime: This exchange made my ears perk up. I'm running a relatively new SR/Claws character whose ST chain is Followup/Focus/Slash and I'm not even coming within shouting distance of three minutes on a pylon. It's embarrassing! Anybody on this thread got a sense of what I'm doing wrong?

You aren't doing anything wrong by the sounds of it.  I've tried all kinds of different attack chains and slotting options and get similar results with my claws/SR.  That's a respectable amount of single target DPS for a tanker.  If you want to push crazy pylon times you might look into other combos that can take advantage of achilles and fury -res procs.  Without a place to slot those in the attack chain for reliable uptime it's difficult for claws/SR to get lower times.

 

If you run gloom you might be able to get a slight DPS bump but the best pylon times I was pulling off were around 3 minutes with hybrid included.

My sense is Gloom would bump up the damage a bit. But I didn't think it was *that* much. And I'm running close to *ten* minutes on a pylon, running near-gapless FU/Foc/Slash. That can't be right, surely? (And while I can't leverage both -res procs, I've got one of them going, and they don't stack, right?)

 

I mean, I'm keeping up status protection so I never get knocked down, I never have to stop to heal, obviously I'm not losing time-on-target. I do have to stop every few minutes to hit Ageless, but that's the only departure from 3-2-1-repeat. 

 

I feel like my time is almost supernaturally bad here, which is why I turned to the forum. 😛

The big difference is probably damage procs.  Between gloom, follow up, focus, and slash I have over a dozen damage procs slotted with 0% enhanced recharge in each power to maximize proc chance.  Sitting at around 170% global recharge from set bonuses, hasten, and quickness to make the attack chain work without any recharge enhancements.  Follow up doesn't even do significant damage on it's own without damage procs.  You are spending a significant portion of your time not dealing good damage while you maintain the buff unless you proc it out.

Well, you certainly make sense there. I'm going to have to redo the math; I wouldn't have thought Fu/G/Foc/S would have worked with 170% global and no recharge in the powers. I definitely didn't make my build to maximize procs; each attack includes one damage proc and one other, but the others are just tanker ATO procs and Achilles, and I favored hitting the 300-something% recharge target over optimizing proc chances. Honestly, I'm behind the meta on procs, and that could well be it. This build *would* be at 170% global without the sets in those three attacks, so your line of thought is tempting....

 

Ah well. Thanks for the knowledgeable input! Now I need to think about whether it's more arduous to grind up a new character or to scrap this one's concept and redo.

It doesn't work perfectly.  There's a slight gap but not enough to try and rework the chain.  It's gapless at the beginning of ageless and when it's not I fill with dark obliteration.  Which is also full of procs.

One of the biggest boosts a solo ST rotation can have is to fit the Ach Heel and Glad Fury -res procs into a ST rotation.

 

Claws is better off then most because it has:

 

A -Def attack in Slash (that can fit in Ach Heel)

A decent animating PBAoE (for Glad Fury, many PBAoEs animate so slow they kill any bonus you gain from the -res proc).

A fast animating targeted AoE in Shockwave (for Annihilation). Does not need to dip into Mu Mastery for it either so can get Gloom.

 

My rotation is:

 

FU-Gloom-Focus-Slash

FU-Shockwave-Evis

 

While the 2nd part of the rotation does less DPS then the first 1st the extra flat -res from the procs more then makes up the difference.

Okay I realised I did my -res calcs completely wrong so I redid my build and rotation. It's slightly less DPS then before (~380 paper DPS to equal level targets as compared to ~390 before). This is ignoring any BU procs (I unslot during calcs) and no Hybrid activation.

 

Rotation is:

 

FU-Slash-Gloom-Shockwave

FU-Slash-Evis

 

Dropped Focus since it does not work well with Gloom (only 1 can take the Apocalypse package). Then took Dark Obl for an extra AoE with KD when AoEing (Evis is no good for that). Gives me 3 AoEs with KD plus Darkest Night making it super safe too.
