Super Strength\Invulnerability\Energy Mastery

Sooo....just started playing this build (after being completely dissatisfied with this version of the tank, reversed primary\secondary, of course).

 

I am into my mid thirties and seem to be underperforming as a Brute and not so great at tanking.  I'm looking forward to getting to 50 and then working on sets (right now I am Invention slotted only).

Anyone have experience with this build and can make any suggestions, especially as to slotting, # of slots I should be shooting for in damage vs resistence....I've run through Mids a couple time and can't seem to decide which powers need to or should be max slotted.

 

Any suggestions are much appreciated.......

It would help to know more details:

- what you found dissatisfying about the tank version

- what you mean by underperforming as a brute

- what you mean by underperforming at tanking

 

As you're just using generic IOs right now, you might be hitting some End issues, as neither SS or Inv have any built-in way to boost recovery.  I would suggest putting the Miracle or Numina unique(s) in health, and the Performance Shifter proc in Stamina.

 

For toughness, make sure you're slotting up Invincibility and Tough Hide for Defense, and Weave from the Fighting Pool if you're taking it.  IMHO the only skippable power for most builds in Inv is Unstoppable (though some people respec out of Dull Pain after getting incarnates and all their set IOs).  Other than that, at least one Resistance IO in RPD, RED, and RND, and at least two Resistance IOs in Temp Inv and Unyielding.

 

For damage, getting Rage double-stacked is very nice but might be hard with just generic IOs.  It should be perma at least though.  Fully slot your bread-and-butter attacks (Footstomp, Knockout Blow, Haymaker) at the very least.

Does psy damage eat your lunch? Worth trying to up the resists at all?

The build is exactly the way it should be.  Do not alter it as if trying to make a truck into a motorcycle even if it will balance on two wheels.  It is not a motorcycle.  Psy damage tanking requires something like Dark Armor.  for the other 99% game you have Invulnerability.  The best armor set in the game for taking damage.  until you start trying to fill the Psy hole and it starts to drop behind other sets because you are not playing to it's strengths

Was mainly curious as my invul tanker has 70% psi resists. Wasn't sure if it was worth trying to duplicate on a brute

Absolutely not.  Brutes Tank different than Tanks.  Tanks "Tank" as a goal.  Brutes "Tank" as a means to an end, gaining Fury and killing crap.  there are rare occasions where you will facve a LOT of Psi damage.  There will need to be another "Tank" for that.  Or you can get creative with Melee Hybrid and Oranges.  DO NOT try to create high Psi resist on an Invulnerability Brute.  You will be trying to turn a Semi into a drag racer.  You might get somewhere, but the damn thing will not be worth shit hauling loads cross country.
