Tank request for my son

Hello, my son does play but not the most focused at most times and he likes the MM pets.  me and wife just got into AE farming not to long ago and he wants so much to join us.  I don't think he cares about actually farming but just being there with mom and dad (and not face planting).  I thought a farming tank for survivability. me and wife can handle damage no prob.  this is where the help is needed. Is there a tank build that does well or can do well in S/L and Fire farms?  If someone could share a build or give a recommendation that would be awesome.   again don't care about damage so much but maybe decent acc and or recharge but mostly just survivability.  thanks all. and INF is no issue with both me and wife contributing lol.

I was going to originally make a DA/SS  they are not complicated to play ( the fewer things he has to do the more fun he has) and he would't even notice or care about the rage crash and gets to see some AOE numbers.

Tanker - Radiation Armor - Super Strength Tanko Mode.mxd

 

This is a Tanker purely built for survivability. It will NOT do great damage, but your son will have to drop all of his toggles and stand idle to die in this. I wouldn't recommend taking the powers in the order it is presented as in Mids, but it is Rad/SS. It also has Super Speed and Super Jump so your kiddo can run around and jump all to his hearts' desire while being an unkillable tanky boy!

 

Hope you enjoy 🙂 - built out, this build should cap S/L/F/N/E/P/T resistances, near softcapped melee defense, and your only "hole" is Cold damage (the rarest form of damage in the entire game) and he has access to Vengeance, Unleash Potential, and Meltdown for extra survival if needed.

I haven't looked at Zeraphia's build but Rad was my first though. Unless you're doing a very specific farm, then chose a set that closely matches that. The advantage of Rad is that is very IO friendly and can be built for almost any and everything.

Nothing warms your opponent like Fiery Melee.

For an SL specific build, I'd say Inv/.   I parked Skylark AFK in 709 and Briggs S&L ... she could have stood there for hours taking no damage.  ...  Then I toggled off everything except 'Temp Invul' .... and they still couldn't kill her.  

 

She did ok in Briggs regular Fire Farm as well, but you can't AFK.  You can Alternate Hybrid Core T4 to seal up Fire resists, with Dull Pain 60s (halfway) into the gap between hybrids.   You could Rebuild for more Fire Resist, she's built for 801. You could put Rebirth on you or your wife to cover when he goes afk too long.  I'd probably recommend rebuilding for SL/Fire farms.  Shouldn't be too hard to manage, then he can just AFK  no matter what, take a nap, come back and still be alive. 8-p   Sorry I don't have a rebuild like that atm, but it should be possible, famous last words.

 

PS: You might want to test any build on the test server, with the missions you normally run .... that might save you some frustration.

The following should be AFK-able in both SL and Fire farms.  Std def with 1 target, i-cap defense saturated ... I kept as much Energy resist as I could, but supplement with Kinetic Dampeners if needed.  WEAK TO PSIONIC.  I stripped most of the psionic to seal up def/res in SLFC (I had already stripped psionic in favor of SLE).

You can likely improve it even further.

Thank you for that added information.  i guess i didn't read that part of the agreement.  I will defiantly take that into consideration the next time he wants to play HC.

Incarnate Soft-Capped to everything but Psi on Typed Defenses.
Hard-Capped to everything but Tox/Psi (but still fairly hefty) for Resists.  OUTSIDE OF RUNE.
Turn Rune on, and you're hard-capped to EVERYTHING.

For a generic AFK tank, whichis fun invul/anything will do.   I'm partial to Invul/ss, but invul/xxx might suite his playstyle best.

 

Though, something to think about is a fire/ice tank.   With tough (or IO set bonuses) and acrobatics (or KB IO sets), you can cap SL/Fire resistance.   With some IO investments, you can cap energy/dark resistance, or get a decent level of defense (e.g. 45% melee).   Not as tough as an invul/ tank, but a more fun if you want to do things (make baddies flop, or arrest them with fire).

Plus burn at 18 and ice patch at 20, it can be an easy mode : ice patch, burn, repeat (not a lot of complicated  combos or other buttons to smash).  

 

Not sure what you and your wife play with your 13+ son, but there are buff's.

Maybe the wrong direction to go with this, but what farming map do you use? The farming maps with higher ceilings could make a bots MM with group fly work, probably FF for maximum survivability. Then he’d be doing some damage, too. Especially with the improvements on the test server on the way.

I run a SS/FIre Brute for Farming.  It does HUGE Damage.  Does not need more Fire armor, see no reason to go Tank with it other than slightly more AoE.  (Footstomp AoE effectively does not get larger on a Tank) Slap an incarnate Alpha Assault and a Hybrid Melee on it for MORE DAMAGE.  It is plenty tanky enough.  (for fire farms specifically)

 

I use a build Hyperstrike posted on the Brute Forums.   I might tweak it hard for game content but for Fire Farms?  Fuggedaboutit.

Lots of good advice here.  I have to speak up though and say, Hyperstrike's Inv/SS builds are just plain crazy good and are very tough to defeat.  So that would get my vote (or would be what I would steer my 13+ child toward as an option that would help them feel more powerful without actually having to count on attack chains and inspirations - at least until they start to get the mechanics of the game down).
