Howdy folks!  o/

New Friends, Old Enemies, & A Box of Cigars is a brand new (semi-serious, very-jokey) story focused mission arc now available at an AE near you!

This story is DONE!

Buuuut I'm still looking for feedback.

Some minor revisions/alterations may still be made to the dialog, clues, and mission descriptions based on feedback.

However, this is essentially the completed product.

Currently in need of some play testers and reviewers to let me know if I might have missed or glossed over anything while tossing it all together, and to help me make sure that the story telling involved (as crazy as it gets) stays on point.

It's available to anyone level 5 and above, but the story assumes you are a newish hero in Paragon City and thus level restrictions will be applied. (Meaning you will be exemplared down for these missions if you exceed their level ranges).

Anyhow, if any of you have some spare time and want to try out a different kind of story on the AE please consider giving "New Friends, Old Enemies, & A Box of Cigars" a try and leaving me a review.

Arc ID# 39284

A couple of final notes:

  • Without giving too much of the plot away, this arc is an attempt at re-casting your character as a co-star in a buddy-cop film.
  • It does indeed start off with an escort mission. Don't worry, unless you are playing at a high difficulty the mobs are VERY unlikely to kill the target.
  • There is ONE Kill All. I understand these are not very popular for whatever reason, but thematically it makes sense for the plot.
    • After going through some of the feedback and messages I've received I did remove the Kill All requirement from the Warriors mission.
    • The Arrest All the Nazis mission is still a Kill All. (1) They are Nazis. (2) If you played through the story, you know why they need to be arrested. (3) They are Nazis.
  • There is a very large elevator shaft at the end of the final mission that your partner is not capable of climbing.
    • This is meant to give players some agency in how they go about facing off against the BBEG at the end.
    • You can go it alone (if you really want) and be THE HERO who saves the day and your partner's skin.
  • OR:
    • You can bring the boss back to where your loyal partner awaits and take him out together as the CRIME-FIGHTING DUO that you now are.
    • Yay. Choices! 😁
  • There a lot of clues given to the player at various points in the arc. Try checking them out from time to time for a few more quick jokes.
    • Also, on a side note, if *STILL* you want a few more quick cheap laughs try keeping an eye on the NPC's chatter during boss fights.

Hi again folks. Just wanted to pop in and say thanks to everyone for taking a look at this thread and to the folks who've played the story so far and left me feedback.

I've taken a few of the comments and suggestions into account and re-worked mission #2 slightly. It's now on a slightly smaller map and has fewer patrols.

Hopefully that will correct any issues people might run across with the defeat all objective.

Other than that I cleaned up the text here and there, corrected some typos, and finished up mission #3.

But now that I've had a full night's sleep to help recharge the batteries I'm going to start work on crafting mission #4.

Also thanks @Kyksie for leaving a comment here as well. Looking forward to your review of the final product.

Lots of changes were made, so I just updated the OP instead of this one. Should make the thread easier to read through for people just stumbling across it.

Well, as far as typos go, the comma after the ampersand needs to go, unless replaced with the word "and" (before which you may, or may not, want to add the Oxford comma).:-)

If I get a chance this weekend, I will look at it. Busy weekend, unfortunately, so I may not have any time until next week.

Thanks for sharing your work!

  • Killobot5000 changed the title to "New Friends, Old Enemies, & A Box of Cigars" Arc ID# 39284

I would recommend posting this on Discord under the Mission Architect sub category. Lot more bite there. The link should be somewhere on this forum I think?

  • Thanks 1

Been about a week now since I last updated this thread. Just wanted to remind everyone that the arc is now complete and awaiting your scrutiny. 😁

Only a week? Lucky you.:-)

(this review is for the updated version)

1) Anderson Millard, an old acquaintance of Kyksie's from her sidekick days, invites her over to his apartment to smoke a joint. Halfway through, he tells her that 'something shady' is going down in Independence Port; shady even by Independence Port standards, which usually involve guns, Superdyne, and hundreds of pounds of mutant octopus sushi. Kyksie heads to a nearby warehouse and runs straight into a pasta eating contest, and is instantly gunned down by several hundred Mafiosi.

toomany.thumb.jpg.f6480a3a6971b8a135e21f14ed867874.jpg

Awakening in the hospital, Kyksie discovers that she had accidentally left team size set to eight from her last mission, Sister Psyche's Topless Beach Volleyball. After turning it back down to one, she re-enters the warehouse, rescues Anderson, and discovers that the Family are doing some things that might not be quite legal.

2) After another doobie, Kyksie and Anderson head down to an old safe house to recover some correspondence. Upon returning, they find that they hadn't put the joint out and it burned his apartment down.

3) The Family are in league with the Fifth Column, so she and Anderson head onto a cargo ship to arrest EVERYONE! Because they're NAZIS!

4) We go kick some Arachnoses, who are all eating Twinkies and watching Spongebob.

5) At last, Anderson has a revelation: the Family, with help from the NAZIS! and Arachnos, are smuggling in marijuana from the Rogue Isles, most likely to boost sales at Family-owned Major Flander's Fried Chicken franchises. The two bust into a warehouse and defeat "Tipsy" Malone. Afterwards, Anderson and Kyksie become roommates, setting the stage for a late-season buddy-cop sitcom.

SHE'S a peppy, spunky, high-kicking martial arts ex-hero who sometimes forgets to wear panties!

HE'S a grizzled ex-cop who's too old for this shit!

They fight crime!

They get high!

They can never remember whose turn it is to wash the dishes!

They're... KICKY AND GRUFF!!!

Coming this fall, ONLY on FOX!!!

New Friends, Old Enemies tells a good story; there's lots of clues and mob chatter, and Anderson's 'grizzled old cop' dialog is done well. My only real gripe is the third mission, where you have to arrest EVERYONE! Because they're NAZIS! On the huge cargo ship map, this took me ten minutes on my first run, then over half an hour the second time I did it because two NAZIS! were hiding behind a cargo crate smoking a bone. IMHO, the 'defeat all enemies' objective should only be used if the plot requires it and the map is small. Not or, and. There's also a few minor spelling errors, and it tells you what your character thinks at times (yeah, yeah, ocelots). Still, if you have time to kill, this is an arc worth playing.
