Dark/Dark...Defender, Corruptor, Controller, or Dominator

I have really been enjoying Dark 3 Defender.  I am missing the damage.  (I ran a fire blaster last week lol).  
 

But I learned something!   What I was missing in Dark Dark Blast I think.  How to land Soul Drain and the Blackstar

 

Throw Dark Pit (power I Avoided) mag 2 disorient.  Blah

 Run Oppressive Gloom from Soul Mastery mag 2 disorient Blah.   Wait 2+2 = gold.  
I always avoided these two useless powers.  
 

Now I am off to test the strategy at high level play.  Throw Dark Pit, wander in with Gloom on, Soul Drain, Blackstar.

I usually remind folks they have 1000 slots. Why does it have to be either/or? Make each one. 

If you're choosing between corruptor and defender, unless you're going to solo most of it, I'd go corruptor. Or, make the defender and use a key bind that shouts out "scourge!" when your damage takes the npcs' hit points below 50%. 

If you're choosing between Dominator and Controller...if soloing, go controller. Dominators have an easier time acquiring domination while teamed. And, the controller will have a secondary that can help you keep you alive. But - the damage is pretty sucky until you get your pets, and even then, they go where they want, so it can get a bit messy if you're not paying attention. Both ATs have low hit points, and of the two, the dom seems to do better dps - but a lot of that is how you slot and play. The status protection and free endurance from domination gives the nod to the dominator for me, if I were forced to choose. (Have I mentioned I once vowed to never play a dominator again, because my experience with a mind/psi dom was so unsavory? I was talked into an earth dom and the AT redeemed itself. ) 

Of the four you wish to choose from, I'm probably going to go Defender for a challenge effort, because that's solo play. For team play, the corruptor. For both...I go corruptor. The defender gets a nice damage buff for solo play, but I honestly can't tell much of a difference between the two. And using a keybind to say "scourge" can be annoying, so go with the corruptor.

I don't play dark/dark control much anymore.  The dark defender gets a cone fear available basically every fight.  That is enough control soloing that playing with the control set feels like wasted control.

 

The dark/ control on a dominator is interesting solo because you have two single target controls - hold and confuse.  Having both with domination lets you control bosses well.

 

The defender lets you use fear to lock down and then pick off foes one at a time.  And heal yourself when you need to.  It is very effective, I just find it boring.

Now I am looking at getting a mezzy Corruptor stood up.  The build goal is to be able to land Dark Pit and Oppressive gloom on a large spawn then Soul Drain and Blackstar.  Dark Pit and Soul Drain are a bit off Perma.  Nothing on this build is 'perfect'  Everything is sort of "make the goal and depend on to hit debuffs and AT strength"  Mostly a team build.  Has good AoE, Good ST, Good Mez, and played smart should o alright.  Notable throwaway was ST hold.  only a mag 2 with no way to stack.  I focused on a build that would just wailing on large spawns (mez/AoE) until the team hit an EB/AV, then settle into debuffs and ST.

 

For whatever reason anytime I export a build with Snipe Mids drops the 5 slotted Experienced Marksman" (no fast snipe) and just leaves the 6th slot Hami.  The new Mids kinda sucks.  In many many ways

I am on a Dark Dark Corr now.  The trick with creating a Mag 4 stun to begin the point blank attack chain is indeed gold.  Once you have run in with a Mag 2 stun toggle, drop an AoE mag 2 stun, Soul Drain, Tar Patch, Blackstar, then joust out to Fearsome Stare…. Anything standing cannot hit the side of a barn with a machine gun. If there is an EB or AV standing drop the debuff toggle on them.   It is a lot of damage and a lot of debuff
