Please help - launchers for Windows XP don't work anymore.

Recommended Posts

Was using Tequila for City of Heroes On Windows XP SP3. Worked fine until yesterday, it was downloading an update and gave me the following errors of files that failed to download. Likewise when game is launches I get this error:

I have tried to install the new launcher, but get this error: "Could not load launcher bootstrap package."

Please let me know what, if anything, I can do to fix this and load the game using EITHER launchers on this machine. Thank you so much in advance for your help!

Installing the new launcher doesn't currently work on XP because the default URLs were switched to https to work around some ISP caching/filtering problems. However, the secure socket library on XP doesn't support TLS 1.2 which is required by almost all sites now because of vulnerabilities in earlier versions.

Working on adding http fallback support for the install step which should help.

You have to use chrome on XP to get the New Launcher installed. I managed it, barely.

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to update TLS support and security certificates on Windows XP. After following these steps, I can get Tequila to work on a bare Windows XP SP3 system just fine.

Re-downloaded the modified HC launcher, and while it warned some items failed to download, the game seems to be working fine!

Thank you so much for the quick action and advice from all, it is very much appreciated!
