Regen without Tough/Weave

Recommended Posts

Have any played Regen without Tough/Weave?  How's it work out?  Currently running with Tough/Weave, at 44.24% S/L Defense and 55.94% S/L Resist.

I can just respec and see, buuuut, I don't want to waste the respec if it's just a bad idea, with Resist and Defense helping reduce how much I need to heal through and all.

I'll slap my build down if you want. I only have Maneuvers and MUCH lower defenses. I had to drop fighting to jam in flavor powers from teleport, and Provoke because my intent was to be a psudo tank, and i needed the aggro control. Despite this i can handle +4x8 anything as long as I bring the right incarnates and keep my wits about me, though part of that is my primary is Katana so i have a strong defense tool in Divine Avalanche. That said its hardly the only set with that option.

Your current build is going to be notably tougher than mine, no two ways about it, but thanks to Shadow Meld, MoG, Recon, and Dull Pain getting me HP capped I can hang with the hard assets and I regularly find myself turning fights that have gone south.

Imagine a tissue, this is Regen.

Imagine a piece of card stock paper, this is Tough.

Imagine a slice of cardboard, like a shipping box, this is Weave.

Now imagine setting up four rows of these vertically positioned with a couple finger widths between each like so:  | .. | .. |

Now imagine grabbing a hose, hooking it up to the faucet, and attaching a spray nozzle with multiple settings.

Hit the first row with Mist. We’ll be here a while before that water manages to get through, that’s like +1. Row two, switch to Soak, bit faster, +2. Row three, Shower, +3, really starting to appreciate that extra layer. Row four, set that nozzle to Jet and let it rip, +4, things are getting hectic now!

Neat right? Now repeat that imaginative thought process, but without “Tough” and “Weave”, just the “Regen” tissue.

And that’s why Regen layers its options as much as possible.

I wouldn't even do Willpower without Tough and Weave

I have a Savage/Willpower that doesn't do Tough/Weave.  Traded those primarily for Flight (so I could picture Savage Leap as more of a dive bomb rather than a pounce).  While I probably would be able to take more hits if I had them, I do pretty alright in x8 content, though I think I also might be clicking the rez power a lot more often than I should.

Any questions?

My fire/regen scrapper does not run Tough or Weave.  I built for regen and recharge on the character, not defense bonuses, and the piddling amount of defense and resistance you get frim the fighting pool struck me as lipstick on a pig.  The character is specialized and not my main scrapper, but she has moments.  I raid Hamidon with her -  she flies -  and run Shadow Shard TFs and lowbie content with her as well.  Running fighting pool toggles would take away her recovery advantage.  That, and her indifference to damage types, are the reasoning behind the build.

It would be a fantastic concept to make a max hp/max regen build with little to no defense or resistance. I know scrapper HP cap is low so the set bonus priority would be recharge, heal, regen, and hp.

What is the max regen?

Varies by AT.  Scrappers and Stalkers cap out at 3000% .  Tankers and Brutes at 2500% and everyone else 2000%

Edit:  outside of powers I managed about 800 +max health bonuses (including the accolades) on my Claws/SR but that was prior to Sunset so no +max health IO was included in build.  (~1339 upped to ~2120 health)

Tough and Weave buys time. Time to regen, powers to recharge, time to click your "oh crap" button. Personally I wouldn't go without them though I think it would still be playable if you did. All the regen IO set bonuses 4%, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 16%. Five of each. But I think it's impossible to get them all but if you could, that would add up to +280% regen.

Regenerative Tissue +25%, Impervious Skin +25%, Numina's +20%. That adds up to +70% regen.

Spiritual/Vigor Alpha to enhance Fast Healing, Integration and Health.

Melee Hybrid for the passive +30% regen.

I think Unleash Potential provides +150% regen unenhanced; +300% enhanced, but can't be made perma.

Also add in the Power Transfer (multiple slotted if possible) and Panacea procs. They provide quite a bit of healing. Did a 20 minute data test, one PT averaged +3.95 hp/s; Panacea averaged +3.23 hp/s.

Made 3 Regen builds to try to figure out which I wanted to create in game. Stalker has a 75 hp/s passive regen, Scrapper has 93 hp/s passive regen, and Brute has a passive 118 hp/s. Those are with perma-Dull Pain active giving them max HP. I went with the Stalker. Including Power Transfer x3 and Panacea, it has a passive regen of around 90 hp/s.

Should note, Impervious Skin IO doesn't look to be Unique, so could be slotted multiple times.

That does sound fun, but ill note that defense and resistance are almost certainly going to result in superior effective health per second, but id need to slap it together to be certain.

It's not a unique and multiple can be slotted but the regen portion only applies once. The status resistance stacks though.

It's been awhile since testing it so retried. Here's a vid of slotting a second Impervious Skin with the Combat Attributes windows up. Regen stays the same but status resistance shows a double Impervious active.

It only apllies the +Regen once.  I have a bunch slotted in one of my Defenders to help mitigate status since she has no natural status protection and Clarion Radial can't be full timed.

I can use it.  Also, in the view totals I see the increased regen with slotting.  It's just in the power info window, that it's not saying it's enhancing the power as much as it is.

If regen ever gets reworked, I hope it gains recharge debuff resist.  You'd think lore-wise your metabolism is going at a ridiculous rate and recharge debuffs should be shrugged off fairly well, yet it's the set's main weakness.

Maaaan that would be a great improvement. Regen definitely needs to be looked at, it got nuked when they changed IH to a click.
