Instead of offering to donate money, we should be donating servers

We’re at critical mass, folks. We can’t donate money. So instead, those of us in the community with the dollars and the know how should be reaching out about adding more servers to the list. Just like everyone else, I’d throw money at it if I could but this appears to be the only option other than

waiting for the admins to to do it themselves without financial aid. If there are other private servers popping up,

why not do the same and see if we can add them to the Score list?

I had 4 blades and a rack that burned with the house a few years ago. Took my COH vids, screenshots, and chat logs as well ;(

Through work I have access to quite a few servers. I was thinking of offering to help, I've got a spare 8 core xeon with 32GB ram, 1tb of SSDs and lots of HDDs, not doing anything in a UK datacentre with 1gbit guaranteed bandwidth connectivity....

 

But the last post I saw basically said nothing could be virtualised and you needed 3-4 such machines as a minimum :(

You don't want to use any work-related resources to host a COH server, I would think -- due to the legality issues.

What do these types of servers cost? Could we do a Gofundme run by fans with the express results of buying servers? Then at the end of the run, the person in charge (or persons most likely) buys said servers and has em shipped to the devs as a happy birthday gift. Or would that still be crossing into legal action territory?

That's really not bad on the prices. I was expecting thousands. Suppose we would need to figure out how many we would need and just raise the money to buy them / ship em to where ever they need to go. Assuming it would be legal.
