Uh... why, with Homecoming selected, can I not play because it's downloading the Beta?

This is beyond ridiculous.

Look, I love the dev team and everything they've done for us, but I'm still going to complain about this.

If it takes me as long to download Beta... which I don't even want... using Tequila as it did the original Homecoming... then I won't get to play again until next weekend... which pisses me off to no end.

I have a 300MB connection, so no... it's not a pony up the bucks for a better internet connection.

We have plans tonight, all day tomorrow, and I don't have time to game during the week.

Why on God's green Earth do you force us to download Beta, while at the same time preventing us from playing on Homecoming?

Double click on Homecoming and you can play on Live.

Since the majority of people aren’t going to be on the beta server, it might make sense to have the beta as an optional download instead of required.

Or at least add a ‘Click here if you just want to play live, you don’t  need to wait for the beta to download, Hero!’ To the Homecoming Splash Screen. I have a reasonably fast internet connection, so I only had to wait a few minutes, but i didn’t  realise until I was told :D

No go. Homecoming puts up the splash screen, then immediately closes itself out. I've never gotten that to work independently; it always has to be launched from Tequila.

EDIT: Oh, you meant the Homecoming option in the Tequila launcher. Double clicking THAT launches the main game. Okay.

To me that's a bad design by Tequila.

The "Play" button should be available for Homecoming when it's fully downloaded instead of just "..."

But thank you for the info about double clicking, I was waiting for the download to finish until I read this thread.

There's a relatively easy workaround you can use. First close Tequila (if you've got it open). Second go to the folder where you installed City of Heroes, find the "homecoming" folder and copy the contents of that folder to "beta-hc" (if you haven't started the download you'll have to create this folder). When you reopen Tequila it will still download the Beta but it will do so much faster (since you've already copied over 90% of the files).

This was a very useful trick for those who wanted to play on the Beta server when the game was live.

That's not terribly easy for the layman, just saying.

The folder they use is “hc-beta”, not “beta-hc”.  At least it was on my PCs
