What would you say is the most survive-intensive (immortal?) AT and build?

I'm wanting to try out something that just can't die with the right build (assuming no user-error or extreme situations don't occur). I'm guessing maybe this is a Tanker? Bonus points if it's fun to play, not a ton of buttons to manage, and can do enough damage to solo some content in a reasonable amount of time.

 

Cost of the build doesn't matter. Just wanting to try something sort of "mindlessly easy" for a bit while I'm working.

Pretty much any tanker can be IO’d to nigh invincibility, yes.

 

Willpower will be the most mindless due to zero required click powers. Only caveat on that one is you should be vigilant against singular hard targets, as you are a lot less tough before Rise to the Challenge gets going.

 

I have one or more tankers of each primary IO’d. They’re all fun.

This is a theoretical Invulnerability/Martial Arts tanker build that is based around a very solid Inv/SS build that I use.  My Inv/MA is only level 8, so I don't have any real experience with this build, but it should get you going.  These numbers are with a single foe in Invincibility.

What this team needs is more Defenders

This^ (some quick posts 🙂 but that was supposed to point at arcanes' post.)

 

Pretty much any well built Tanker is incredibly hard to defeat.

And depending on just what you mean by extreme situations that list can get considerably extended into Brutes, Scrappers etc..

Tankers are nigh invincible, all of them.  My only tanker is a Shield tanker, she's a blast to play.  The offensive attack in the defensive primary is a great addition to your arsenal at no cost to your survivability.  

 

You can get 3200+ hp, capped positional defenses, a debuffing taunt shield that lowers enemies damage around you while powering yours, a shield that offers teammates a large amount of defense, and great resists and capped resists in spurts if you take and use the t9.  Only thing Shield really lacks is a heal but you will hardly ever notice the need.  Supremely well rounded power set.

Shield is awesome. Definitely in the upper tiers. Get basically every power except maybe not the T9 and you should have capped defenses, 80-85% DDR, and decent resistances/HP. Grant Cover will look like garbage to you at first, but DDR is not to be underestimated. Tankers have to be built well for their damage to be truly impressive, but Shield’s damage buff / shield charge makes that much easier.

 

If you aren’t confident in your skills or using timely inspirations, consider a set like Dark Melee that covers Shield’s no-heal hole, but it’s really not necessary.

This thing is like an armored buzzsaw.  Literally.  Nigh unkillable (like the best IO'd tank) but with Stalker Crit-on-demand levels of damage.  It's insane.  It's game-breaking.  It's like a Scrapper with Assassin's Strike.

 

Easily the most unkillable DPS machine I've ever played.

 

Seriously....a Dual Blade/Energy Aura/Soul Mastery goddamned Stalker.

 

Trust me.  I didn't believe it either.  You can literally take whatever Incarnate powers you want (I suggest Musculature, Assault and Ageless) but honestly this thing is as powerful as most Incarnates without the T4's.

Once you hit 50, Rebirth can fill in as a heal/regen as well. End will be an issue until you can at least get some IOs going. I currently have a Rad/shield and Dark/shield scrapper, and to be honest, I might like the Rad one more. Rad has more AoEs and with the tanker changes for target caps, that can be a benefit for /rad. You can slot for -res on /rad as well. The heal isn't great and not on par with /dark's, but /dark is more know for utility than damage. With investment, Rad/fire brutes can outdo Spines/fire ones. Again, tanks have a higher cap for targets.

MA is one of the few remaining melee sets I don’t have kitted out at 50 - along with Street Justice and Battle Axe. StJ will go with a Stalker probably.

 

I was going to probably make an Elec/MA eventually - to maximize the usefulness of Storm Kick.

I had fantastic results with a Shield/Radiation Melee Tanker. Shield is all around good, only weakpoints being a lack of a damage aura and self healing, which Radiation offers. It is also energy damage which is lovely, and has contamination on top of that. Plus its very satisfying to Pop Fusion, Shield Charge, and follow up with Atom Smasher. It has good ST and AoE damage, it just can feel a bit slow when you first start off. But once you get some LotG globals slotted, its a thing of beauty.

 

It hits hard, its survivable/durable enough to go afk with, has built in protection from defense debuffs, it can self heal, has a great damage type, and has both ST and AoE. No real downsides.

Just to go in that direction, I hear great things about Invul/Dark Melee tank.

I don't use mids.  I'm pretty proficient in math and like to tinker.  I can pass along some hieroglyphs though for the Shield powers.  

 

Battle Agility - 6 Shield Walls

Deflection - 2 Aegis w/psi resist, 1 Impervium psi resist, 3 Lotg

True Grit - 2 Impervium armor w/psi res, Steadfast unique, 3 Preventative med w/absorb

I target hp and psi resist bonuses along with any other resist bonus.  This is my full on tank Recluse build though.  I have a 2nd dmg proc'd forsake others build.

Pretty sure your teammates still benefit from defense values you slot for in this.  If you're only going to short slot it Lotg is a fine slotting.  But I have a few slots to spare here and there and to be considerate to teammates I try to buff their defense a bit more plus getting those nice bonuses from Reactive along with that scaling damage resist.

I'm with @Crysis don't discount a stalker for this part right here. Yes tank will probably sturdier but "kill it faster and you don't have to survive longer" should be the stalker motto.

I run a energy melee/energy aura as my solo toon and it is just amazing.
