So here is the thread where I basically say my wishlist for the game, hopefully in a format someone with access to code might take inspiration from, but thought exercises are fun too.

I do a lot of Giant Monster hunting. One of the things I like about this activity, aside from the merits, is that anyone can participate. Jump in, get a hit, get your merits, no team needed, nice and clean. Too many commas. This also goes for invasions. The ones I know of are the Rikti, Zombies, and Nemesis. Once again, anyone can jump in and stick around until they get the badges. Heck, it's even possible to go rogue during an MSR, and jump in with the crowd, even though your blue title will stick out like a sore thumb. Other events like Halloween ToT are here as well.

I like the idea of non instanced events that anyone can join in on, and I would like to see it extended to other zones which may not have their own event or monster.

Giant Monsters - It would be nice to have more monsters because more is better. Maybe Jade Spider could make an appearance in St Martial or Mercy Island once in a while, both of which have areas that players do not often visit. Or perhaps a version of Adamastor could crawl out of a crypt in the Moth Cemetary in current Dark Astoria, rather than just being summoned in the Echo.

Obviously some zones, particularly in Paragon City, might not be suited to Giant Monsters. But I have another idea.

Reverse Safeguard Missions - Okay, so this is not a Mayhem mission. Imagine if you will, a "Giant Monster" appears. But the Giant Monster is actually an Arch Villain adjusted for an open world encounter. You could have Lord Recluse himself step outside the bank door on Peregrine Island, but you will probably get Fallen From Grace. So... much... Fallen From Grace. And then, the villain makes a break for it, possibly to a waiting escape vehicle if the Code Gods permit, or maybe he stands around and flexes like a GM until aggroed. So then for the most part, it's treated as a Giant Monster fight, unless the villain somehow escapes in which case the players get nothing, and maybe the villain taunts them in one of the global channels. "Bwaha, I, Lord Recluse, a freaking Incarnate, has successfully employed several million dollars worth of hardware in order to get um... 34 grand? Why am I even here? I should have sent Fallen From Grace! Oh right. I was bored. Ah well, thanks for the 34 grand, Paragon. That'll learn ya not to mess with Arachnos. Mwahaha. Ah man, shame I'd have to remove this face plate in order to twirl my moustache. Yes, I, Lord Recluse, who weilds the Power of the Well, has a smashing Snidely Whiplash moustache that twirls just right with a pinch of Brill cream. You'll just have to imagine it. Farewell, Paragon, I am done taunting you. I sure hope this 34 grand pays for fuel..."

Level Agnostic Foes - So you know how with Invasions, you have mobs spawn and everything is basically a monster and cons the same color to everyone regardless of level? Would it be possible to have an entire zone like this, where groups of varying level could street sweep forever? Maybe Kallisti Wharf? I just thought it would be neat to have a zone where everyone is challenged more or less equally. The higher level toons will still have an advantage, but you create a scenerio which kind of changes the linear advantage of level, so instead of growing up, you grow out. 😄 Just a thought that has been in my head for a while.

More Level 51-54 Mobs - So far as I am aware, the only zones with mobs higher than level 50 are Dark Astoria and The Rikti War Zone. This is one of my ideas to offer an alternative to AE farming, and that is more end game hunting areas. Not a lot of players know what kind of a sweet hunting ground the Moth Cemetary can be. RWZ can be pretty nice too closer to the Mother Ship. Maybe Peregrine Island could have some zones with mobs from level 51 in Peregrine Island and Grandville? Heh... Oh please put level 54 Arachnoids somewhere. 😄 In PI, you could swap out some of those Devouring Earth GMs with level 51-54 DE. Or.. Maybe even some alignment agnostic zone that even Praetorians can go to. But I really think that having some high level farmable foes would add some variety.

I might add more as I think of more, and in the meanwhile, people can pick my ideas apart.

Not gonna lie, I'm a HUGE fan of Jade Spider so I'd love to see that model as a Giant Monster to fight in the Isles, if I had to pick a zone to have it featured in, I'd say either St. Martial or Mercy Island, Grandville has the flier, Cap has Deathsurge etc etc. This is a really great post overall!

Having an Archvillain pop into Paragon with Giant Monster stats though? Mwah. Love this idea. Someone like Mako, Black Scorpion, Ghost Widow and Lord Recluse SHOULD need a whole bunch of people taking them down realistically, especially these days with people that can solo AVs (not saying players cant be strong, obviously, of course they can, its fun!) but having the NPC alts be more of a threat would be great for the worldbuilding and these suggestions are pretty solid for that. If this idea was implemented I'd say it would need one of those UI boxes showing their health that players can easily target outside from the model itself like in the iTrials and such, but overall? I like this.

I would love to see more overworld content, or just more reasons to venture into the overworld beyond badge hunting. This game has one of the more immersive and enjoyable overworlds I've played. When it comes to random trash spawns, you don't have level 10 orcs wandering around in a purposeless daze; you have a purse-snatching, a standoff between PPD and freakshow, Family burying their victims in the beaches of St. Martial, etc. Some of them even tell little stories, like the Crey PR ops in Brickstown that imply their Tanks are something a little creepier than people in power suits.

So, yes to zone events and monsters, level-agnostic mobs and high-level hunting zones. It would be great if it were worthwhile to e.g. go down into Grandville's gutter and kill some Arachnoids. Maybe you can have missions to stop specific crimes, e.g. stop 10 Tsoo shakedowns in Talos Island.

I would also love to see more use of the feature from some low-level arcs, where completing certain missions changes the spawns in an area either temporarily or permanently. I forget which contact it was, but you can take a mission to blow up a Longbow base, and when you finish and return, there are Arachnos guards in the area instead of Longbow patrols. If there was something like this in more zones, heroes could get a sense of slowly cleaning up various parts of the city while villains could see the effects of their evil crimes.

I always support more things for players to do in game.  My two comments on OP's idea here would be to make sure that anything added doesn't cause massive slow down in the zones.  My other comment would be to attempt to limit the areas that are impacted by the event so that players that wish to avoid the event can do so without worrying about being defeated by some random AoE or other such mob power.

An Arachnos invasion of Paragon would be a really cool event. Fliers dropping off troops.  At four locations, Recluse's big lieutenants appear at the same time. You have to defeat all four of them within X amount of time and then Recluse shows up for the finale. In his party are Red Widow and Arbiter Daos, and he keeps spawning bane spider soldiers.

Fliers can always be taken out like one in Grandville.

I like this idea. We already have invasions so players would have an idea of what to expect.

I recently stumbled across the zone event in St Martial, the one with Longbow and the Family - I didn't even know it existed. Definitely agree some flavourful overworld events can be a fun change of pace, even smaller ones that don't necessarily need a team to complete.

I love open world content.  Guild Wars 2 does it very well.  But the way to make it work is to autolevel everyone down to the level of the zone.  So if a 50 goes to KR they become level 5ish.

Open world content in a level based game like CoH where most characters are level 50 just runs contrary to the structure of the game.

What if?

Completing a successful bank mission releases an AV (with some related minions) in that Paragon City zone/Rogue Isle zone.

When the team leader exit the bank mission a related hero/villain message goes out "X spotted in Y to stop $bankmissionteamleadername"

AV immediately spawns at point x and travels to attack the team lead.

Maybe not appear directly on top of them, but give a chance for everyone to zone out of the bank mission or flee the zone if they wish.

But the team will know in advance that they will be spawning an AV - like Babbage does in whichever taskforce that is (Positron? needs to be broken down or hunts removed).

If the team leader isn't in the zone, the AV heads directly to the nearest tram area or most populated area. I would even say the nearest other hero/villain, but I think it's probably easier to code a location for the ambush to move to versus figuring out another hero in the zone to redirect the AV to attack.

I would be cool if these were the main signature villains/heroes as they don't show up outside of PVP areas very often. It would give them a very real presence in the world.

I know it would be a great threat for those doing the safeguard/mayhem mission, but, at the same time, I think it would give added incentive to do safeguard/mayhem missions.

Having the AV spawn far enough away would allow time for the team lead to flee if they so desire - leaving the AV spawned for other to contend with ... like a giant monster...except just an AV (or are the signature characters giant monsters)?

Grr... I knew I was missing some detail while composing this.

You can probably PM a GM to move the thread.

Actually, one of them will probably see it and move it themselves.

I like the Paladin building event in KR, but I find it a bit static and mostly horizontal 2D.

I am thinking build on that in a couple of ways.  Let's use Sky Raiders as example. Have the notification line go out that Capitan Castille has been sighted in, say, Talos Island by the Founders Fall door.  He's under heavy escort and moving to a flying ship in the north of Talos Zone. This provides an opportunity to capture him. If he reaches the ship, he escapes.  This would offer a mobile, not static, event, with a robust air defence to keep those pesky flying heroes busy, and porters to keep things from getting too formulaic on ground fights. They'll have their force fields too. Reinforcements are perpetual until he is captured or escapes.  A new high-target Sky Raider can be created for this event, if it is preferred to keep Castille only to other missions.  This format therefore offers the possibility of failure (though with XP and badges), unlike the Rikti invasion, where we just endure until the timer ends it.

EDIT: forgot to add that due to mobility, the terrain changes as well: ground water, air, different levels of ground, maybe even through the tunnel, depending on route

Right now, the only outdoor/open world stuff going on is big.

Early mission require a couple, stop the mugging type things, but could some of this be e landed upon?

My thought,

Open the doors to a couple of those convenience stores, jewelry stores, ect. and add an interior,  (I know, now I'm talking map editing.)  Occasionally have a random villain group rob the place.  Anyone going by and noticing suspicious activity could intervene.  After say 120sec or so into the holdup the police could be called and PPD could spawn near the building and park outside, and a zone wide notification could be made.

Responding before the notification one or more times could even grant badges.

Enemies could take hostages that they actually might kill if agreed too much.  (What, something a tank doesn't wanna try alone?  Never!)  (Perhaps only one enemy capable of killing the hostage to make this slightly more manageable)

Enemies could have more than one escape plan that could be foiled before they get there.  Block or destroy access to the sewer from inside the building, and they have a car waiting half a block away, which could also be found and disabled.

I know, a lot to code, but I'd love to see some open world crimes other than muggings, loitering and CoT abductions.

Also, I am not proposing every building get an explorable interior.  This would be awesome,  but obviously not feasible.  Maybe 2 or 3 more per zone though.  You could even have store NPCs sell Insps, even have a pawn shop sell some pawn shop buy and sell common salvage at randomized rates to provide another layer of immersion.  Or a way to make some quick cash at low lvl?

Just my thoughts.

Imagine saving the hostage via AS or snipe. That would be totally sick.

Not sure if the floor plan of an instance can be attached to those stores, but we already have interiors for pawn shops and small banks.  I wonder if they can be attached in the manner you describe.  And there's one other layout we might use: the enhancement stores.    I wouldn't make the actual stores themselves vulnerable, as those are often safe spots for less experienced players or characters with players away, but use the layout at other doors as well.  Oh, and I'm trying to remember: isn't there an interior for Yin's Market used for some mission?  If so, that might be reused for small markets/bodegas.

Nothing to add to the topic except I love OP's ideas to the point a simple "like" won't do.

There was a hint of openworldness by the end of the game, like the St Martial Longbow / Family stuff. I would love to see more of that.

I really enjoy the zone events too.  Too bad the one in Brickstown is so often broken.  I like the one in St. Martial, although it can be tough for some characters.  The Praetorian ones are fun, too.  As I'm writing this out I realize I like the newer zone events that were created with mobs that scale to your level.  The older ones like the building fire in Steel Canyon or the Superadine raid in Skyway are not as fun, although they would probably be difficult or impossible to solo with scaled mobs.
