Advice for alternative farmer build

Jaro

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I already have a Spines/Fire and am happy with her, but i would like to try a second farmer. Any suggestions there (if possible not a fire or spines :) )

Thanks!

Honestly, there's not another secondary that can compete with /Fire. The added damage from Blazing Aura, Burn and Fiery Embrace makes the set.

Super Strength is still a really good primary for farming. Foot Stomp with the FF proc is just that good.

/Fire is the go to for farming as long as AE exists. Burn, damage aura and FE are tons of aoe goodness without a primary. Anything else will be slower.

But if you are looking for fun over speed I would try Rad/Bio. Still 2 damage auras and Bio can be much more sturdy outside of AE farms compared to /Fire

Can confirm, Rad/Bio is a wickedly fun combination. The -Def and -Res the combo, along with Contamination and its AoEs provides a lot of orange numbers. :D

Running Spines/Bio.  I don't even consider her a farmer, shes just a whirly ball of death that I do all my missions on at x8, inadvertently 'farming' influence and drops while getting to do cool missions and stories.  That said, compared to Fire, yeah, no comparison.  Burn is Burn and has been since launch.

Great Justice - Invuln/Energy Melee Tank

Ann Atomic - Radiation/Super Strength Tank

Elecutrix - Electric Blast/Super Reflexes Sentinel

Ramayael - Titan Weapons/Bio Scrapper

C'len - Spines/Bio Brute

Though I've barely started mine, I've seen many recent posts in various places saying Rad/Fire is the most effective AOE farming build of them all.  YMMV, etc., have no personal experience to confirm it.

It is up there with spines/fire but once you get into ultra recharge area (like 175% or so) SS/Fire beats them both, least if we are talking about AE farms with only fire damage.  Perma double rage is a sight to behold.

I have a 36 Rad/Fire Brute. He drinks endurance like nobody's business.

Thanks everyone. Still thinking what to do, so many choices and all are so tempting. Maybe SS/Bio or Rad/Bio :)

If you go with Rad/Bio, I'd recommend Musculature Core Paragon in your Alpha slot for added damage and -def enhancement values, and Reactive Radial Flawless in your Interface for a little extra -Res debuff and Fire DoT for more mixed damage. You know, once you get to 50 that is.

Maybe, maybe not.  I saw a couple players say that their max budget Rad/Fire significantly outperformed their max budget SS/Fire.  Again, I don't have the personal experience to judge.

Sounds like one of their builds is more optimal than the other.  I went on test server, put my best builds side by side.  Both with perma hasten and a constant attack chain of AOE goodness.  No inspirations and on the same map 5 runs each.  My worst time with SS was better than my best time with Rad.  Not saying Rad is bad, for the vast majority of the game it is better.  But you simply cannot beat double rage being perma and adding to every attack. +160% for 50 out of 60 seconds is simply better than +50% every 10 out of 25 seconds even when that other 10 out of 60 seconds is time doing no damage.

I would like to test this out and now that you mention it, the test server is the perfect place. Has anyone tried using Hero Stats? It didn't work for me when I tried, but I didn't do any troubleshooting.

As far as SS/Fire goes, I personally don't double stack Rage and back on live I didn't even use Rage at all. 10 seconds of no damage really hurts your DPS. You should be munching on red inspirations and converting everything that drops to them.

The 15' radius on Foot Stomp is the differentiator. It's really good and the FF +rech proc goes off almost every time if you're hitting the target cap.

I figured using no inspirations on either was the best way to compare the sets side by side. That way I could make sure they were equally sturdy. Only had to heal a couple times when rage crashed but with rad my end and hp bar hardly moved. Full disclosure, the Rad was more fun even though it was a little slower due to never having to stop.

@Helen: Would you (or of course everyone else) be willing to share builds? That would be great. I slowly get the grasp, but not really great at doing great builds myself.

There was a thread asking for build critique and I posted my SS builds there. Can't figure out how to link on my phone. Ill throw in both when I get home. Seriously Rad/Fire is fun and I'm looking forward to learning the ins and outs of bio as it is totally new to me.

And home. Ok this Rad/Fire is seriously end game stuff on a massive budget but I played with it on the test server and my Endurance bar and Health bar hardly ever moved.  I would not try to level up using this build as it lacks any meaningful single target damage.  Since I was only planning on using it for fire farms, my goal was to get 45% Fire defense.  Then pump up recharge as much as I can along with recovery and HP.  As a side effect due to other bonuses in the sets I used I got up to 30% defense to S/L and melee and a decent amount of S/L resist as well if you turn on Tough.  I went with Agility for the recharge/end and just enough defense to soft cap fire then Ageless took care of all my endurance issues.  Now I went with assault for Hybrid but Support or Melee work too if you want to do regular content and shore up some of the holes in Fire.  Feel free to add any tweaks or suggestions.  I know this thing is an AOE death machine but there is probably some changes that could be made to make it even better that I am not seeing or am just not aware of (or forgot after several years)

Now the SS/Fire I had a bit more wiggle room due to not having to slot a damage aura in the primary but it is still very tight.  The only time I had health issues was when rage crashed and I got hit with the defense debuff but the heal is on a 10 second recharge and that was plenty to keep me off the floor.  I have a build with more recharge but less defense so I have to rely on lucks when farming until I can afford to get all the stuff for this build.

Ok, I lied. This build has IOs. Haven't had the opportunity to test it out yet. There's 44.4% S/L defense and 40% recharge bonus. Nothing too uber, since I wanted a somewhat affordable build. I'm sure it could be improved upon.

Im attaching a Spines/Bio.  I know you said 'no spines', but just use it for the Bio part - primary can pretty much be swapped for any other, just juggling the enhancements to fit in appropriate powers.

I built this out to hit or snuggle standard softcap in defensive adaptation - leaving more build room for rchg and other things rather than trying to softcap in offensive adaptation - I wanted to have a reason to use all three 'stances' and switch between.

My actual live build makes some changes, now that I look at it - I dropped Lunge (bad DPA) for SS (Quality of Life - I like having two travel powers), and switched Hover/Fly for CJ/SJ.  Also rocks a bit less def than whats below (once I realized what I was getting from Defensive Stance).

Still, should be a decent starting place.

There other combos that work well too, I have no trouble with +4x8 on my War Mace/Shield, so you could easily try /Shield with and of the following melee powers

Psionic

Radiation

War Mace

Electricity

Everything is good with shield that you can take with shield.  Shield makes bad sets good and good sets great.
