Fire/Time Input

Sirens Sin

Recommended Posts

There were a number of Archetypes I never got around to playing on live, Blaster being one of them. I finally decided to give one a try and rolled a Fire/Time based on a very quick search and basically went with what I saw suggested on two occasions (they may have been the only two recommendation for that combo on the internet as I have not found much info beyond that). Anyway I'm sitting at 35 equally as unfamiliar with /Time as I am Blasters. I did find one build and swapped out a couple things for Flight but beyond that it's essentially as I found it. I guess I have two questions....

1) How is the combo overall (/Time especially). Fire is what fire is on a Blaster

and

2) Thoughts on the build below

I've enjoyed the combo so far and the build in the grand scheme of things is relatively cheap so I'm not too concerned with some min/max letdown. There just seems to be quite a few combos MUCH more popular so I am kind of rethinking building this one out. Back in the day I'd build anything out but I don't find myself with that much time anymore so any guidance would be appreciated.

Fire/ is a damage monster and I really like /Temporal, so the mix needs to be good 🙂

This is the build I planned for it (Future Pain for Aging Touch, same slots). Offers some good defenses and hover if you like hover blasting (if not, change it for combat jumping or whatever you prefer)

It's a very good combo. I've soloed Ms Liberty TF, ITF and Tinpex (not sure this is the right name - the one with Battle Maiden) all on +4x8 with mine. Then I deleted her because I just don't enjoy overpowered toons anymore.

I gotta ask... how many faceplants during those solo runs and how did you deal with the Recluse fight at the end of the MLTF?

I lost count on how many times I died, but it was easily over 30. It also my first and only try, so I'd say a good chunk of those deaths were me just seeing how far I could go without any insps or pets up

As for the towers, I've pre-summoned my lore pet, shivan and snow beast, popped a few dual inspirations + Ageless and focused on the +tohit tower first. My toon hovered slightly above the tower - just enough for me to sill be able to use my melee and PBAoE attacks while also forcing LR to waste a few precious milliseconds trying to jump and punch my face. Big greens were used to deal with the occasional ranged shots that managed to get through my defenses.

I believe I died 4 times on that first tower, but as soon as it went down, everything else was a breeze.

Fun facts:

  • If you rush all cables in the first mission you better be ready for all the ambushes coming after you
  • Mu -End was the second most annoying thing to deal with throughout the whole TF
  • Apparently I suck at spotting tree vines, so I ended up creating a bind just to quickly cycle through them
  • Silver Mantis was the hardest AV for me to take down (F that -Def)

  • Thumbs Up 1

Now I'm forced to ask, why do you consider fire/time OP with so many faceplants?

Full disclosure: I have yet to solo the MLTF because I use the same rules I use on the ITF. Max diff, no insps, no temps, no faceplants. So I always fail.

My Fire/Time blaster is one of my most fun chars, though I tend to melee for most of my chars, she's a ranged combatant.   I doubt I am at max DPS or survivability, but well enough to scary enough to the mobs.  (I haven't taken against any of the solo challenges that people do, because I get bored fighting AVs alone...

I also decided to screw around with max speed on flight.  It's nice having a character that hovers faster than a p2w flight power. 😄  (So there's a few slots that could be utilized better for some)

Also, Pretty sure I swapped something for Experienced Marksman.

Now I'm forced to ask, why do you consider fire/time OP with so many faceplants?

Full disclosure: I have yet to solo the MLTF because I use the same rules I use on the ITF. Max diff, no insps, no temps, no faceplants. So I always fail.

I honestly wasn't trying not to die. I'm not flexing nor saying I could do a deathless MLTF (although, it does feel doable), and I know I wouldn't be able do it without insps and pets, which I guess is part of your point - but I'll get to that in a moment.

Just like you, I too hate dying. But when I started the TF I didn't have any expectations, a min-maxed build, nor a plan. In that moment I just wanted to see how far I could go and, in a way, be reminded of how the TF felt like when teams couldn't steam roll the whole thing. I purposely did a few things that led to my death - eg: waiting for all the ambushes in the first mission to come to me instead of taking them one by one - while others caught me by surprise as in "oh, I didn't know this would happen".

Now, I said the combo was "very good" and that I deleted my toon because it felt OP to me.

To clarify, in my book, no toon should be able to solo an ITF on max diff + no insps + no temps. If you can then yes I do consider the build OP.

And I did that with mine. It wasn't a deathless run (2 deaths total - cyst explosion and death-by-aggro after carelessly being stunned by rommie's rez) , but I'm certain my toon could do that too.

To wrap it all up, please note that I consider myself an average player and I have zero intention of telling others what to play - whether that's an "OP" build, a pool-powers-only toon, or anything in between. But to me, my toons cease to be fun after I achieve certain feats. So unless they hold a special place in my heart, I delete them. And if for some reason I get the itch to play such combo again, I do it from scratch to get that awesome feel of progression all over again.
