DP/TA Build Feedback

lightpunch

Recommended Posts

I wanted to add a trick arrow character to my lineup for some ultimate late-game debuffs, and have a concept I enjoy -- a vigilante former Knives of Artemis assassin hunting down the KoA/KoV/ToV. I thiiink I've committed to Dual Pistols as her primary, and wanted feedback on the build I've attached here.

Couple questions:

  • Is DP viable enough on a corr to be worth it? I don't have an issue with the double weapons when I set them both to no redraw, and I like the natural concept for the character. But I'm not opposed to something also in line with the KoA/KoV/ToV theme, and could consider seismic/sonic/water/fire/beam/psy with enough encouragement.
  • Diamagnetic interface -- worth it? Thought it'd be helpful to add -regen to this build, but if it's not significant in practice, I'll pivot to Reactive or something else.
  • I felt stretched for power picks on this build, but weirdly had an abundance of slots -- if some of these picks seem weird, it's because I didn't have a better idea for where to put them! Definitely open to slotting feedback.
  • Other than Ice Arrow, have I procc'd the right powers?

I don't play support characters very much but my TA/DP defender is one of my favorite characters.  There's lots of target location powers I'd highly recommend getting some binds set up for a few of those arrows, once I did that it became such a blast to play.  Dual Pistols is a very cool set to use with TA.  Chemical Ammo plus Poison Arrow will net you tons of -dmg.

Couple things:  Piercing Rounds will be a wasted attack to have, you'll mostly be using chem ammo or fire ammo so won't be getting that -20% resist, I'd drop that one.  My lead attack is Ice Arrow which I proc out but I put in a 50+5 Accuracy IO instead of that Ghost Widow one you have.  Hail of Bullets I put a Fury of the Gladiator -res proc 6th.  Oil Slick I slot 6th an Achilles.  Bullet Rain I will slot 6th a Force Feedback proc.  Acid Arrow recharges so fast those procs will be wasted on it, I slot mine with an Achilles and 3 Devastation I believe with that other -res proc.

As for the Arrows I find Entangling Arrow and Glue Arrow to be the most skippable, everything else you should have.  I do have Glue Arrow myself though and I know you can't skip Entangling so you're looking fine on the arrows.  When I was building my TA I had to consult someone to confirm that I was seeing it didn't require tons of slots which I could then dedicate elsewhere if I liked.  The best thing to do with TA is to enhance the values in the powers like recharge and accuracy.

It's such a fun and cool pairing you should have a blast and it's a very strong character.

Edit:

As far as I know DP should be fine on a Corruptor, the nuke will see a good benefit from Scourge.  I also do Diamagnetic for mine as well as Agility Alpha.

Not significant in practice.

  • Flash Arrow is autohit. Feel free to slot a -tohit set without accuracy.
  • Oil Slick Arrow doesn't take accuracy. I would move Scourging Blast to something that requires it.
  • No epic/patron armor?

Yeah the regen you get from TA's debuffs makes Diamagnetic's insignificant.  I go with it for the -tohitt plus most everyone runs Reactive or Degen so those stacks will fill up fast on teams.

Agree about Flash Arrow, I'd drop a slot off of that Clouded Senses, you don't need the accuracy in this one nor do you want the proc.

I slot my Oil Slick with 5 Ragnarock for those bonuses and an Achilles

And yeah take your armors.

With the recharge in HoB, aren't the -res proc's odds of firing very low? Same with OSA and bullet rain?

And if Acid Arrow has so fast a recharge that procs aren't useful in it, why put the -res procs in it? I thought procs in powers that you were also slotting +rech into had very low chances of firing -- aren't I better off pursuing set bonuses like +def or +rech for those?

  • Flash Arrow was one of the picks that benefitted from me not seeing a more obvious place for those slots. Even if it's autohit, the accuracy and sm/l/m slotting bonuses seemed more valuable than any bonuses from other -tohit or acc -tohit sets. But I swapped in 4 slots of Clouded Senses and will try to find that +def elsewhere.
  • Alright I took Mezmera's recommendations for OSA slotting, unsure where to put Scourging now though. I stuck it in Piercing Rounds, which I'm willing to drop, but not sure for what at the moment.
  • Any patron/epic picks you'd recommend here?
    • In that original build I'm at the soft cap for all positional defenses without a patron armor (well I think just shy for melee, but with the -tohit I think I'll be ok) -- am I seriously gimping myself with the +def set bonuses I have? If I'm not, why force in an armor toggle I don't need -- BS has the only +def armor, and it's typed versus positional, which I'm much closer to softcapping with this build.

Here's an edited version, looking for answers on replacing Piercing Rounds, which patron/epic y'all would recommend, and clarification on why I'd want procs in Bullet Rain/HoB/OSA etc.

You have a plethora of pool picks here, an armor would be good.  I get by just fine with Ice Arrow, Pistols, Exec Shot, Bullet Rain and Hail of Bullets as my chain, Oil Slick adds some real nice additional damage.

Yes I don't like to slot procs into powers where they will have a low rate of fire unless its already part of a 5 piece set I'm going after for bonuses.  But any -res proc I do slot where I can especially since you're the debuffer.  As for the Force Feedback proc in Bullet Rain it has a high rate of fire due to the target count, I'd for sure slot that 6th.

Acid Arrow I'm more looking to do some enhancement values while still having the -res procs.  Pretty much all of the arrows in TA I'm aiming for +recharge.

My defender has a full set of one ATO in Pistols and 5 of the other in Executioner's Shot.  You might be better off with an ATO set in Oil Slick.  Range and pbaoe have a bunch of real nice sets to choose from.

I love Power Build Up with my TA/DP.  I don't have the time to get off a bunch of arrows and then by the way run in for some Soul Drain goodness so being able to boost your damage right out of the gate is great for DP and then having a side benefit of also a power boosting ability is just too good to pass up.  I use power boosting and also have Unleash Potential for some silly defenses when I want it.  I also take the armor and the godmode (although it hardly gets used, I still have it in a pinch from a rez or something).

I don't play support characters very much but my TA/DP defender is one of my favorite characters.

Hey @Mezmera- I've just started a TA/DP def, do you happen to have a build lying around? I think I've over slotted/ built for the wrong things!

Ooh.  I don't use mids or any type of software.  Here's what I do with these powers though.

Flash Arrow : 4 Clouded Senses (no proc)

Glue Arrow : 53 Dsync Slow/Rech/End

Ice Arrow : 50+5 acc and 5 dmg procs (my lead attack)

Poison Arrow : 2 Purple sleep (acc/rech)

Acid Arrow : 3 Annihilation w/res proc and an Achilles proc

Disruption Arrow : 2 Synpase (rech)

Oil Slick Arrow : 5 Ragnarok and Achilles proc

EMP Arrow : 2 Synapse and 2 Superior Entomb (rech)  this one can go all kinds of ways but I like chasing recharge for this one.

Pistols : 6 of Defender ATO (can't remember the names but the one with the good 6th bonus)

Swap Ammo

Bullet Rain : 5 other Defender ATO + Force Feedback proc

Executioner's Shot : 5 Apocalypse + Achilles proc

Hail of Bullets : 5 Armageddon + Fury of Gladiator -res proc

TA is real nice in that you don't have to go wild with slotting since there's not much benefit from sets and the real benefit is in the powers themselves so I like to get the best enhancement values for traveling like acc/rech.  I skipped Entangling Arrow because I go with FoW pool and take Weaken Resolve instead which I wasn't getting to use both powers.  I also go with Power Mastery for power build up to boost Unleash Potential and Vengeance but the pools I leave to you since its a lot about preference.
