The current install instructions recommend C:/CoH as the install directory.

There have been tons of problems with this, as it is a protected directory right off the root.

Please change the guide to say C:/games/CoH so we don't have multiple people that need help on the discord daily, that argue that they were following the directions.

Edit: Looks like the text part of the install guide as changed recently, good. But the pic still says C:/CoH.

My CoH folder is downloaded in the Documents folder. I have had no problems, so far.

Documents is a bad place to put games period as as the directory gets bigger it can cause issues.  We have said this many times over.  You know this as I know you read this in another thread.  If you don't know what you are doing please stop spreading misinformation and making work down the line for the people here and in discord that will have to then deal with fixing things that can be easily avoided.  Installing games in your "documents" is as clever as trying to run games from OneDrive......

Windows is notorious for snowballing problems if the user's profile and associated folders become too great in size. As an example, your "desktop" folder is part of your profile directory (c:/users/(your windows username)/desktop. Documents is in there, too.

I will never understand why people install software in a DOCUMENTS folder.  ::)

Certain folders have certain permissions that change the way software works or is allowed to work.

If you don't know what you're doing, don't install software into your user directory or your desktop or your downloads folder or your documents folder.

Silk, I would never want to give anyone misinformation. If you notice, I never told anyone to install in documents, I only stated the it works for me and has since live.

You are giving people the impression it okay and honky dory and they will never have issues if they put it in there.

The people on discord have had to help ad nauseam people move their game install from "documents" even though "it was working great the last week/days or so"...not to mention people trying to run it from One Drive, their torrent download folder, their download folder etc etc.

That is all I am saying. If you wish to advise people that's great but please suggest they put it in X:/games/coh or cityofheroes.

If you spend enough time helping in discord you will soon understand post like yours in this thread leads to confused people and issues down the line which just creates more work for the volunteer helpers.

Silk, all I did was say it worked for ME. You are very knowledgeable and I think it's so great that you try and help so many people. I don't need to suggest where to put the download, as you have done that already. I also want to thank you for helping folks with their problems and trying to solve them.

Heh, you don't know HOW many people wonder why their computer (PC and Mac) get slow only for me to tell them to stop putting actual Files on their desktop. That's what links are for!
