I don't see any info in the patch notes regarding stats on the spectres:

Spectral Forces: Activating this power has a chance to summon a Specter to your side! Specters slowly fade away over 90 seconds, even faster when attacking. They cannot be healed, regenerate, upgraded, or commanded, but provide a good distraction. Enhancements in this power will also enhance the stats of summoned Specters. You may only have 1 Specter active per Necromancy attack.

So how do enhancements in your attacks affect the summoned spectres, should we be slotting full sets to maximise them? And is it worth taking all of the attacks including dark blast which i've always previously skipped. Anyone got any ideas? I'd assume if you fired off dark blast-gloom-life drain you'd have the possibility of 3 extra pets out but are they significantly putting out enough damage to be worth all the slots and the extra power picks, some of the secondaries use enough slots as it is and with the new upgrades i'm already looking for extra slots for enchant undead and dark empowerment.

Posted

I'm currently using all three attacks with only life drain slotted for healing. The other two have 1 acc/Dmg/end slotted.

I use the spectres as temp tank pets. They taunt the target - very handy to absorb single target hits.

I ran my necro through some level 54 avs solo and the spectres did their job well distracting away from the fragile zombies.

Idk if all 3 attacks are necessary with the summoning chance being 70%, hit check not required. But when making it a priority to keep at least one spectre summoned there are moments I wish I had a 4th attack to keep pumping out spectres. I'll be using all 3 at least until a build change requires attack(s) be sacrificed.

I had no idea they could be capable of tanking stuff. And no idea how to fit in all 3 attacks. Curious if your lifedrain slotting means they pump out less damage or if it in any way enhances their own abilities. Throwing in full sets of winters bites/apoc/thunderstrikes doesn't look as if it will bump their puny damage but the fact that they can take alpha's for the squishies is very handy to know.

I dropped most defensive toggles and lean into the high resistance of the necro set. I haven't tried Necro/Dark on homecoming and can't comment what your build values should be at combining a resistance set with a defense & -to hit debuff set. But I don't tankermind with necro I let the pets handle the tanking and stand in the safest spot I can supporting them until its safe to use single target attacks. I'd try skimming off the top of your numbers and give the build a test run. Otherwise if you want to post your build maybe I can suggest something, or someone else might come along.

... forgot to further address the spectres...

I don't have the slots in my build to use toward increasing damage of dark blast or gloom. But using Musc alpha, having a little dmg slotted, +dmg proc in Tactics, and running Support Hybrid all lends damage to the attacks that I'm otherwise using for the spectres damage absorption, damage being an afterthought.
Sadly, they dont tank the alpha for the pets because they're uncontrollable.

Slotting life drain for heal doesn't help the spectre because they do not cast a heal skill. I assume the accuracy benefits them. I also assume the heal % doesn't increase their base health would have to verify tho.

Necro/dark is one of my favourites and i'm hesitant to respec it as its working so well now but QoL means i can take powers sooner so i will eventually. Above is a necro/kin i just guessed at a respec , dropped scorp shield so i'm already wondering how it will handle. Mids sort of updated but its only letting me put some of the sets in some of the upgrades and necro doesnt seem to be 1. I'm a bit iffy about it. Dropping scorp had me chasing ranged def which i dont like to do and didnt manage anyway and i cant get siphon power in which i think is really useful for the melee pet sets that can get hammered. I play all melee, centre of mobs, always first in and then just spam heal til pets catch up and i can fulcrum. Enchant undead has 4 unbreakables, dark empowerment has a couple panacea (really late here so i'll test it out tomorrow i have to log now) :

I updated mids but am still unable to open your build. I try to get that working asap. Using Kin I imagine will be tough to skim those defensive numbers. Once I can get your build open I'll swim around a little bit.

If what you're most concerned with in your build is taking the alpha strike I would play very similar to your build.

I would pick up Heat Mastery for Bonfire and use that as my opener, in theory. I can only imagine the struggle with mitagating the alpha strike using /Kin on higher difficulties.

I'm not as concerned dropping melee defense from your build as I would be ranged since mob overcap changes. Would be a slight annoyance to stay ranged but within 20 feet for transference taking the alpha strike. But sounds like you're doing it.

High level hard stuff the pets just get tossed into the meat grinder, anyone who's played bad mm combo's (or just plays mm's badly as i do) over the years is used to resummoning pets constantly. There's no way i'm surviving tough stuff if i hop in before the pets catch up even in BG mode and i almost always have them set to aggressive. End is heavy, repel eats it up i have to be sitting on stuff for the transference/transfusion and i'm spamming attacks when i can it always amazes me how fast i can drain the blue bar on any AT. And i don't bother checking radius on most stuff, if i stand toe to toe i know i'll get the benefits of the kin. I'll either wup stuff with max fulcrums or faceplant i'm good with either. Pretty sure i was better off running scorp as i originally did. Resists only matter when you get hit  🙂

You can keep the pets in bodyguard mode while controlling them. Maybe they will just die too fast since you're taking so much damage. IDK let me know?

Scorpion shield is effective of course. I mention using bonfire with the idea you are running bodyguard  and entering battle along side your pets. Their high resistances in bodyguard mode just might go further with bonfire slowing down incoming damage on you and all your pets by knocking down most enemies (except flying/hover or KD resist) and allowing you more time to heal etc. than scorpion shield offering defense against 3 dmg types, and only for you. Both have their + / - but I think the biggest impact to your play style would be to utilize bodyguard. I can really only imagine how far bodyguard will go since my kinetics was a controller.

You need 3 powers to have 3 pets out.
This is what I have slotted on a Petless mastermind.
For the Specter Resistance Power there is a difference between accuracy and resistance numbers based on the slotting.
You can see from the Specter Rake Power there is a difference in DPS based on the slotting. You can also see the Accuracy is coming from the power since it matches the Accuracy for the power as well.

I turned off any powers to make sure something like Tactics was not giving me some extra numbers.

@Harakh i have tried running an mm with bonfire. Just once. I still can't get over them not giving heat mastery fire shield. Its hard enough now as i'm skipping fighting pool on most mm's to find slots for the new upgrades, without that and an epic shield i tend to get 1 shotted instantly as i rarely play outside of melee range unless its something like a bots/dark or mercs/storm. Kin lets me keep fighting and leadership but soon as you switch epics you have almost 0 def/res. And i don't like the long recharge on bonfire, it can barely keep up when soloing i find it useless on teams no matter how much recharge i have or how i slot it.

Your right about BG mode, if i run it and take hits pets drop. Better to play aggressive and take the hit myself and 1 click top up hp with the kin powers.

@plainguy it looks like full slotting is the way to go. Numbers on the winters bite look much better although i wonder if thats because its gloom thats the better dps. No pic for life drain? I'd guess theres 0 benefitting the spectre summoned with a numi set in. No acc no dmg.

I was going to ask Harakh how the spectres tanked but i can see the 400% taunt i didnt notice before.

I'm uncertain if spectres would be affected by buffs like leadership. As far as i can tell they are untargetable/unbuffable.

I didn't think to look at the resistance increases on the spectres. Although the Spectre damage increase from fully slotting the skill is real low. Did you notice a kill speed increase slotting attacks so greatly?

Seems like i can sb/heal the spectres, should be fun and half decent dps with fulcrum on.

I don't believe you can heal the spectres but you can use absorbs on them.

I imagine leadership toggles affects them. It appears the pet auras apply by in game image but I just couldn't  make out the assault buff icons circling:

But I turned Off/On Assault and its damage changed (and I can barely see assault icon buff circling:

My mistake, so many pets out at once i could hardly see what was going on, i managed to target one and was hitting sb/fulcrum/transfuse through them but i couldn't see the hp bar or if it was affected by other buffs.

Probably easier to check if buffs work on Spectres by creating a tab in your UI window. Add to the tab Pet Damage Inflicted, Pet Damage Received, Pet Hit rolls, Pet Heals Received and whatever else there is pertaining to pets.

Then go to Menu, Options, Windows tab, Chat section, enable Log Chat and Chat Timestamps. The log chat will save in your City of Heroes folder, under your username, and Logs folder. The timestamp is just to help distinguish between buffed and unbuffed.

Summon a Spectre with no buffs. Attack a target. After it releases, wait a minute and summon the next Spectre with buffs. Attack the same target. After that Spectre is gone, check the log for damage increases, damage resists, hit roll chances, target chance to hit your Spectres and heals.
