Curious about opinions on Super Reflexes / Savage Melee

After the last big tanker update I've started to really enjoy the archetype. I also really enjoyed street justice (on multiple archetypes) so I wanted to try out the other melee that (I think came out around the same time?) savage melee. It has some pretty neat animations and particle effects. I've also read those that enjoy it, really enjoy it.

The other one I'm curious about is SR, I've dabbled with it a bit on a Sentinel and while I have no real experience with pure defense set it seemed interesting. From my forum searching it seems to be well liked on tank.

So with the semi new / distant changes to tank, how does the combo work out now?

First, thank you for your post because now I have a new character to try. 🙏

My experiences with Savage is on a Stalker and Dominator, so I might not have the full frame of reference to provide the best info, but I'll take a swing at it and let others chime in or sharpshoot me.

The tanker changes don't really affect SR's contribution to the mix, though that set is already really nice on Tankers due to how easy it is to softcap defense and allow for flexibility in your pools and secondary set. Also, Quickness paired with Blood Frenzy stacks is going to give you a nice chunk of Global Recharge at all times.

I don't think Savage Leap benefits from the Tanker changes- might be wrong- but [Edit]: Savage Leap doesn't get a boost to it's massive 20ft radius, but the target cap is increased to 16, as per other Tanker AoEs. Shred and Rending Flurry look like they do, and that is awesome. Especially since you pick Shred up at 4; having a 120 degree cone that slaps 10 targets at level 4 is good for any AT, and is Superb for Tankers.

So far it seems pretty neat. I do wish savage melee had a lil more up front damage but otherwise, the speed makes up for it. SR seems pretty cool too, although i have no idea how to slot it. I'm level 21 now after running posi and dfb and i've only died a couple times. Mostly due to toxic damage. I imagine at higher levels with correct sets and slotting it'll be pretty neat.

Here's my first draft on the build. Combat TP to try the in-and-out trick for Savage Leap.
Doing some weird stuff with P2W travel powers, but it shakes out nicely I think:

Might not stick with it. We'll see.

Combat Teleport provides a 5 second to-hit buff when activated.  For tankers the base is a 10% buff

Note that the buff is cancelled when used, so it's like, "your first attack within five seconds of using CT," not "all attacks within five seconds of using CT."

You can take combat teleport, but you get savage leap eventually, so you might want to then respec out of combat teleport and just take focused acc.

Savage Leap and Combat Teleport go together like an analogy of two things that belong together.

Leap's bonuses are tied to its firing distance from target.  To get the full 3 stack bonus you want to fire it from some distance away.  Using a CT macro like

LSHIFT+S powexec_location back:40 combat teleport

will *BAMF!* the toon backwards just over the correct distance to max out Leap's stack building.  This can be done with all of the cardinal directions.

It's also the beginning of the path to Fold Space, which pairs nicely with Rending Flurry.

I fire off the incarnate ice cone power first from well back then set savage leap to fire on the same target which fires as soon as I am in range. That maximizes the distance and the bonus stack just as well, albeit not as stylish.

While 40' is, as you say, the distance to max out Leap's stack building, note that the damage continues to scale until you get to 65'.

In fairness, there's an cost that comes with the style.  I learned on my Fire/Martial blaster that jump-jousting is safer for dropping Inferno than trying to drop Inferno then using CT to get out.  The latter looks cooler, but you're stuck in melee for the full activation times. 🤷‍♂️ I still do it though. 🤣
