Hardly. Define "best": best ST, best AOE, best defense, easiest to play, etc.? What are your metrics and reference data for each?

 

If you want the very best ST dps, for example, that basically limits you to Munitions mastery - nothing competes with surveillance slotted with an achilles proc. But if survivability is your metric of choice, then you need to go with a high res APP shield instead such as Force mastery - /force blasters can hardcap SL res with difficulty.

Yes, i used the above Beam/Temp/Munitions as fire support on Incarnate badge runs including Really Hard Way Magisterium…which I designed it for.   Ran it non stop for about 6 months on them.  The AoE Elec/Temp I posted is my answer to Sentinels.   That Elec can run in a Farm if there is a Tank and it is outdoors or you can stand at range.  Outdoors is easier.  If you get agro just use Phase Shift or Bubble and run until you are safe. Then start fire support again when clear. Easy and fun

First off, i wanted to thank you guys for getting back to me.  What do i want in a blaster ??  I love energy blast, especially for ST.  As for AoE i usually pick Fire.  So what do i consider best, whatever i find fun.  So, what am i looking for in the next blaster, something i can solo with, preferably ST only.  I was thinking of sonic/time, a doctor who.  Nah, too much of a rip off.  Perhaps Energy/Time.  Will the two sets compliment each other ??  As for survivability, its a Blaster not a Sentinel :).  The faster they die, the more safe i will be 🙂

Dark blast/Devices has been an excellent hover blaster for me. From the dark blast side you have a sniper set that gets a mass immobilize, mass knockback, and a couple of other useful tools like a life drain and hold. From devices you get caltrops, trip mines, gun drones and abilities that decrease your chance to be hit that stack with the -tohit of your dark powers. Devices only has one melee power (but one with a bigger range) in taser which can be used to incapacitate anyone who gets past everything else.

It’s odd that you say this, because devices really shines in melee: tripmine bombing baby. It even has stealth to help you get close. And taser is a stellar melee attack. You are certainly not the first person to neglect most of the power of their secondary and play half a blaster though.

Taser has a 20 ft range and pure range enthusiasts still categorize it as "melee." How many enemy melee attacks have a 20ft range? let alone 10 ft?

 

When I see blasters die oftentimes it's not because they are in melee, but because they positioned themselves incorrectly, or didn't move when they should have. Not even hover blasters are immune from this. I'd much rather see the wisdom of "learn where to plant yourself and when to move" propagated to help newbie blasters than "melee is bad, avoid melee."

 

I've learned to go with the flow though, Melee phobia will never go away. Fortunately blaster primaries are strong enough to carry those builds that neglect their entire secondary. Although with the Sentinel revamp it really begs the question "why aren't you just playing that AT instead?"

 

But, to answer the original question. /Tactical Arrow is top of the heap for pure ranged blasting because the powers all support that strategy. Your primary should be one without any PBAoEs if you are even remotely shy of getting within 20 feet of mobs.

 

Ice/Tactical works very well, the slows compliment the "keep away from me" strategy and you also have access to good damage holds to further lock down problem targets
