My Bots/Dark build - Rip it apart

Mr. Apocalypse

Recommended Posts

This is my current live build I am still working on my T4 Destiny incarnate (Ageless Core Epiphany) but everything else is complete on live.

I took a long break after the Page 5 update came out, because of my displeasure at some of the things in the update and needed to give myself some time for a fresh start. I was heavily invested in my previous build, and was not looking forward to changes good or bad.

I think this build is pretty solid. so far it seems to be a beast, I play pretty active and in the middle of the fight spamming Twilight grasp to keep my pets alive, so no need for repair drone, also got dark servant to contribute some heals.  I still need to do some more +4/8 testing, but seems to be no major issues or complaints so far.  I am open to suggestions for changes, but I really like the way the numbers stack up.

Wow, lots of views, but no comments. I was expecting at least one person to tell me how I slotted something wrong or should have skipped a power.  Should I take this as a sign of my builds perfection, it utter ridiculousness,  or that nobody cares about bots/dark? 😉

Its a great build, you said it yourself, its a beast. Pretty hard to go wrong with bots/dark, was my no. 1 mm on torch and excel til page 5 upgrades. Is it perfect? Only you can answer that its your toon and your playing it but you sure hit all the numbers defensively/resists-wise and got perma hasten which is impressive. I dumped fighting for personal attacks, nothing wrong with stacking more - regen but i exempt a lot and threw in group fly so my numbers don't even compare but it still kicks ass despite not being anywhere near as tanky in mids as it was it still feels tough. And i like maintenance drone. Hard to criticise a build that works just fine.

I may throw a single boosted recharge into tar patch that'd let you get it a few seconds shy of a triple stack but other than that its hard to pick anything out. Toss the steadfast into shadowfall, you won't lose any s/l res you will gain a couple % extra neg en res.

I doubt its not that people don't care about bots/dark its a classic, it may just be that there's so many QoL changes since page 5 players are working their way through 500+ respecs and just haven't got round to their own yet 😛

So I made another pass on my choices and made a couple of improvements based on your comments and my testing.

I moved steadfast Resistance/3% def from tough to shadow fall. I lost some S/L resistance (was over cap, dropped to 74.01), but gained some extra (~2%) on EN,Neg a PSI resist

I also dropped a slot from stamina and moved it to Dark Embrace and slotted in another Unbreakable guard (max HP+) this cost me 15 HP but added back 60 HP for a net +45HP increase and boosted my mez resists and toxic/psi resists some more. This change cost .12/sec. end recovery, But Ageless T4 makes up for any endurance issues.

Tar patch lost the Ice Mistral proc (it was useless in TP as it only procs on the initial cast) and received a Pacing of the Turtle range/slow 5+ boosted (I already had this one so threw it on). +5 boosted recharge reduces timer by 4 seconds vs the =5 boosted PotT range/slow, but with my haste numbers I can already double stack. Triple stacking for a few seconds at most is not really worth much to me. I may still go with +5 boosted recharge, but for now going to try having extra range and slow in it. If triple stacking becomes a need, I will move to boosted recharge.

Mr. Apocalypse!

Why did you take Petrifying Gaze?   And then 6 slot it with Purples?  Should so much emphasis be placed on a single-target hold?  Folks that play Bots like to take Photon Grenade for the -Regen debuff that lasts 30 seconds on its targets.  Perhaps exchange the single target hold for the AoE debuff/chance for Stun power.

Maybe, perhaps, or even should more attention be directed to Darkest Night?  I know that your +Def would be even more effective if you slap a -ToHit debuff on a group.  I do like how you slotted -ToHit into Fearsome Stare.  That much makes sense to me.

I don't like your choice of Alpha slot either.  Musculature Core Paragon is just sooo... one dimensional.  It only helps your build with one stat.   I chose Intuition Radial Paragon for my own /Dark build.

I took petrifying gaze to fill a spot, I had the enhancements already. I didn't take photon grenade, because I don't want to have my toon pulling out a weapon. I have never used any of the personal attacks for this particular toon and have no plans to do so. so petrefying gaze it was.

I find that the benefits of slotting darkest night to be minimal based upon the added slots taken, so I tend to just one slot with the  enzyme exposure at lvl 53

I have tried many of the alpha powers on this toon. I have Cardiac and musculature radial and core, and at least 1 t3 in most of the others. I find musculature gives me the most benefit based on my play style. But never say never, I will give the others a whirl on the Beta server and see how they perform.

I still haven't done much GM testing so the build might change up a bit.  Before the i27 Page 5 changes to the set, my build was pretty solid for taking on GMs. I will have to see if the lack of -regen  from Photon grenade will be an issue for me.  I have read mixed reviews about the -regen debuff moving from the pets to photon grenade. Some say its a deal breaker and some say it makes no difference when taking on GM's.  I'll have to make that decision later after some testing, because I really don't want any of the 3 personal attacks from the bots primary

Slots/enhancements, set all relative levels to +5 levels and you'll see your s/l resist is 75+ % after you boost the enhances in dark embrace/tough or both (depending on if you want to attune the unbreakable set for exempting)

So I made another pass on my choices and made a couple of improvements based on your comments and my testing.

I feel that if Tar Patch isn't giving set bonuses, I'd want to slot it first with Recharge, and possible Endurance Reduction (depending on style, and the Endurance budget). I wouldn't put %procs in it without also having accuracy

Similarly, I feel that Howling Twilight is a power that is best used as often as possible (for the Stun). If you don't have accuracy slotted in it, the %procs are IMO not nearly as good a choice as recharge. My favorite slotting for it is (when slots are available... I'd drop the %procs first, don't exceed 5 of same Purple set bonuses):

 (A) Positron's Blast - Chance of Damage(Energy): Level 50

 (*) Javelin Volley - Chance of Damage(Lethal): Level 50

 (*) Absolute Amazement - Stun/Recharge: Level 50+5

 (*) Absolute Amazement - Accuracy/Stun/Recharge: Level 50+5

 (*) Ragnarok - Accuracy/Recharge: Level 50+5

 (*) Ragnarok - Damage/Endurance: Level 50+5

As I've written in a bajillion other threads, I feel that Hasten is a trap for a LOT of builds, and for Masterminds (with their Endurance tax) it can be especially problematic... in my experience, there are very few powers (and none of them are attacks) that really need the recharge coming from Hasten in a MM build. Obviously if Hasten is saving slots in powers that would otherwise need to go for Recharge, that's a thing, but my experience has been that Hasten is really only paying off for powers that have 5 minute recharges, or in marginal cases where I'm right on the edge of "perma" (e.g. Domination, Mind Link, Link Minds) without Hasten.

There are a lot of ways to slot the bots; I did find that putting an IO Defense 50+5 piece in Protector Bots is a huge help  as I think the base defense from their Force Field is something like 13%, so the returns are on the order of 4% more Defense. Here is what I did with my henchmen (albeit with a different secondary):

Level     1:            Battle Drones

 (A) Superior Mark of Supremacy - Damage: Level 50

 (*) Superior Mark of Supremacy - Accuracy/Damage/Endurance: Level 50

(*) Soulbound Allegiance - Chance for Build Up: Level 50

(*) Expedient Reinforcement - Resist Bonus Aura for Pets: Level 50

 (*) Sovereign Right – Accuracy/Damage: Level 50

(*)  Sovereign Right - Resistance Bonus: Level 50

Level 12:              Protector Bots

 (A) Superior Mark of Supremacy - Damage/Endurance: Level 50

 (*) Superior Mark of Supremacy - Accuracy/Endurance: Level 50

(*) Defense Buff IO: Level 50+5

(*) Edict of the Master: Defense Bonus: Level 40

(*) Call to Arms: Defense Aura for Pets: Level 30

 (*) Call to Arms: - Accuracy/Damage: Level 30

Level 22:              Assault Bot

 (A) Superior Command of the Mastermind - Accuracy/Damage: Level 50

(*) Superior Command of the Mastermind - Damage/Endurance: Level 50

(*) Superior Command of the Mastermind - Damage/Endurance/Recharge: Level 50

(*) Superior Command of the Mastermind - Recharge/Pet +AoE Defense Aura: Level 50

(*) Superior Mark of Supremacy: Accuracy/Damage: Level 50

(*) Superior Mark of Supremacy: Endurance, +Resist (All) +Regen(Pets): Level 50

I put the %Build Up piece in the Tier 1 henchmen, my thinking is that they are the ones that will generally need better +ToHit. Obviously there is a tradeoff against using it in the T3 Assault Bot. I get a kick out of seeing multiple instances of it on the three Battle Drones.

Note that if you get the extra Defense from the Protector Bot, I think you can make alternate choices for slotting the Dark Servant; you can save 2 slots, pick up +MaxEnd, MOAR Global Recharge and slide a %damage proc into Dark Fluffy.

Level 38:              Dark Servant

 (A) Cloud Senses - Chance for Negative Energy Damage: Level 30

 (*) Cloud Senses - Accuracy/ToHitDebuff: Level 30

(*) Cloud Senses - ToHit Debuff: Level 30

 (*) Cloud Senses - Accuracy/Recharge: Level 30
