I asked about this on the Base Building channel of the Discord, and was told to post here, as the behavior's apparently similar to a bug others have already seen and reported....

I'm trying to create, under the map, a cavern with the feel of an abandoned 5th Column base. I'm using 5th Catwalk Planks and 5th Stairs to create a multi-level setting. In order to get the stairs, the planks, and the items *on* the planks to align properly, I have to have some things offset a half point on the vertical grid. But every damned time I leave the game and come back, everything in the undermap has reset to the grid. So my teleporter, for example, is either hovering over or buried within the planks it's supposed to be sitting on, and the planks and stairs themselves aren't properly aligned, as either the stairs or the planks have all jumped half a grid point up or down.

I've heard of two other instances where people have had items re-set to grid.

If any others are having similar issues, please encourage them to post in this thread.

Easier to keep track of if we can keep it consolidated.

I did some testing this morning to try to determine whether anchoring to floor vs anchoring to surface makes a difference, as I suspected the bug was related to using surface anchoring. BUT.... I can't reproduce my own issue. The items that were constantly bouncing back to grid yesterday are, this morning, stubbornly remaining exactly where I put them. Which is good, but.... Since I don't know why the misbehavior stopped, I have no confidence that it won't return.

I had this issue placing a tech platform (2x2 square one) set to vertical using Ctrl-Alt, grid disabled, and pushing the platform as close to the Arcane Brick pattern inside the base as possible. I worked hard getting the platforms set juuuuuuust in front of the brick as possible. Logged off for the night.

Logged in the next day and half of the platforms I had set were imbedded in the wall and flickering. I finally gave up and reworked the room. If I can find the time to try and duplicate it I will.

My original thought was that because I had the grid disabled, and having a hard time getting thecplatforms to line up (they have a top and bottom, but no middle, and the bounding box are wonky... can we get a surface with just the bottom of the platform?) that perhaps they were sitting on a partial pixel/grid point and when logging they "reset" to a whole point. I know the grid resets every time (so if you have it disabled and log out, when you log back in the grid snap is set back to 1).

If not coherent, I blame lack of coffee. Just woke up.

"WHAT DID SHE TAKE?!"

"The secure laptop in the lab. A prototype plasma hand cannon. Four quantum grenades, a phase field generator, a handful of tracking devices, Rauth's briefcase, body armor, a satellite phone, two SSDs, a Beretta 9mm, and my lunch."

In my case, the grid was never disabled as I placed things. I simply placed some items using the 1/2 x 1/2 grid instead of the 1 x 1 grid, and those items, after a reload of the base, were popping back to fit on the 1 x 1 grid. But again, that was *not* happening this morning. So I have no clue what was going on yesterday or if/when I'll suddenly see the misbehavior again. :(
