I get it, I do, but don't do the same thing you're complaining of others doing if its so bad.

 

In terms of the likelihood of attracting the attention of lawyers, there's a difference between money changing hands (i.e. profiting off the game) and server hardware being directly donated.

 

 

True... determining whether or not the funds are going to hardware vs profit is difficult.  So, in order to avoid undue scrutiny, it's in the best interest of folks playing on these servers to not promote the concept of public solicitation for these servers.

This server isn't into that kind of thing and wants to play it safe, and they have the right to play it safe.

 

DMCA Takedowns don't work that way, and this kind of thing was inevitable - score.savecoh was never going to be the only place for private servers, many more are in development, more than just the /cogx/ one, and many of them will take donations.

 

You cannot stop it and making a post disparaging other groups efforts can't stop it. It will just make this group look questionable.

 

I don't think it's fair to attack others, that's all. You can disagree but openly attacking is odd.

 

They aren't openly attacking they are simply establishing that on This forum that is theirs that they won't tolerate any talk of donating to those other servers. They aren't trying to forbid people from going off and doing whatever they want. You just aren't allowed to openly talk about that kind of stuff here, they are basically just trying to cover their own ass if NCsoft comes knocking so they can legitimately say "No we do not support that at all."

 

It's as simple as that.

And yet almost every other private server does exactly that. It doesnt matter how you spin it. Either people are putting donations in to the server to keep it up. Or the people who are currently funding the server continue to fund it by themselves.

 

Plus outside the coxg discord, i dont think it was ever pushed outside their people. Plus it was to just get the server started. It would almost be the same if it was a group that worked together to mass funds to get a server started.....

The Homecoming servers are currently being funded by a few private individuals, and until we are comfortable about opening up for public donations it will stay that way. From here on out, any discussion relating to any server that is publicly soliciting donations is explicitly not permitted on our forum or our Discord.

 

Homecoming Discord Server

We’re finally getting around to setting up our own Discord server. While we really did not want to cause any further divides in the community, we need to ensure the Discord server we are operating out of will never be associated with the activity described above.

 

For the record, the City of Heroes Discord staff does not, has never, and will never, permit solicitations on our server.

Reconnecting

We released a small update this morning which should allow you to skip the queue if you disconnected in the last 10 minutes. This will allow you to get back into the game in the event of a crash, internet outage, or unfortunate mapserver encounter without having to go through another long wait.

 

This feature is still very much experimental, so there’s no guarantee it’ll work under all circumstances - please let us know how it works (or doesn’t work) for you!

 

Experimental or no, I'm glad to see you guys taking the unexpected into account. This feature I am glad to see put in place. Thank you all, for all your hard work and bringing back a game I thought I'd never be able to play again.

Yay on the two new servers and new discord!  Also double YaY on fixing the forum posting box!

 

I spent lots of time last few days helping people get the game running in the "old" discord and at some point made a copy of my City of Heroes folder and made it available for others as Tequila was having some issues downloading the score files.

I see you guys have it in your new discord in the How-To-Play section.  I just though it was worth mentioning this is not ONLY the game files but has the Tequila/score files too.

 

Might be worth noting as I dunno if any conflicts/issues might happen if people on Mac then installed Island Rum in there.

Looks like a few people from the other "servers" are here trying to defend their actions...all while erroneously comparing what they are doing to what Homecoming is doing.

 

Openly asking for money is VERY different than asking for specific hardware donations. If you ask for money and you only need $3,000 but get $30,000 whose pockets are being lined? If/when word gets to NCSoft that your server is MAKING money... that definitely could be problematic for all the private servers.

 

But go ahead... keep insinuating Homecoming is the one's at fault for not wanting to be associated with such practices... just makes you seem like a troll...err unicorn.

 

Thankfully I have never heard of any of these other servers and my friends from pre-sunset CoH that are now playing..are here... as well as new friends. I'd rather play on a server that is actually up and running and is transparent and communicative.

Many people have been in touch asking if they can help support us with their hardware or resources. So far we’ve said no, but we’re reaching the limit of what we’re able to afford on our own. As such, we are now opening the doors for this kind of discussion. If you’re interested, and if you have or are able to acquire the following, please do get in touch!

I expected it to not be as heavy on CPU power and the main issue being memory. Is it just because you have such a high cap of 2000 they you need that much power? How would it scale down for say, a 500 concurrent user shard?

Im for people controlling these servers how they want and not bashing each other just because of the different opinions about how to move forward. Saying things like "HE WANTS THIS TO FAIL" is a bullshit response. Its picking and choosing that what we are currently doing on this server is just as illegal than any other private servers that is starting to get made.

 

What im trying to get through your and anyone else's head is that it trying to blatantly bashing another server isnt going to help this community in the long run. What homecoming is doing is great, but no one can tell me what the long term goal is for this server outside of giving vague beliefs. This is the major problem that no one is willing to address or even talk about. This has been the issue from day 1 about this server and all the miscommunication that has been constantly going on with it. The fact that people still constantly ask tempest and other people from the main CoH discord is only proof that people do not understand that homecoming is its own server. And now they are going to their own discord and basically moving away from the idea of a community hub which from my understanding was the entire fucking point of that discord.

 

Listen, I am happy about everything about getting the homecoming server and the fact that these guys are doing this out of pocket. Anyone would say that. But this bullshit in fighting drama that keeps coming up is a load of crap and anyone with half a brain can understand that. And the fact that you are trying to say im a lackey for wanting people to setup a server only continues that fucking idea that there are "sides" that need to be taken.

Just fyi the reconnection work most times with unexpected kicks but just now didnt. Was running a sewer mish and all servers wenr down. Upon coming back up we are now back in a que but woth no que number position

It’s been a pretty wild weekend so far! Yesterday we had over 8,000 people trying to play the game at once. I say trying, because, well, many of you were stuck in an everlasting queue.

Just reporting in.  Have not had this work once today.  I've only had a 2 or 3 opportunities for it to work, and so far none.  Torchbearer server, if relevant. :)
