Was advised to post on here from one of the GMs in discord.

I'm curious if there's any info on the possibility of replacing PB’s combat flight animation with the proper hover animation. I’ve seen a handful of people post inquiries about it over the years (both discord and forums) but nothing really coming of it. Not sure if there’s a reason behind it or it’s just too small of a request to be considered. Either way, all of the posts either have people "/agreeing" and hoping for the same, or simply no responses or official answers.

Just hoping to get some clarity for not only myself, but the inevitable others who search for this same topic in the future. Especially if there is a reason not to adjust the animations.

Lastly, for anyone reading this and completely unaware on the topic/issue. Currently, Peacebringer's Combat Flight ability--similar to the hover ability (significantly slower flying speed and increased defense), shares the same animation as fly which makes the character appear to fly horizontally (like one would at higher speeds) instead of floating slowly forward and upright (as one does while hovering).

Greetings, welcome to the forums!

This could be an oversight or working as intended.

I actually have no idea

but I do know many suggestions have been made to "adjust" the Epic archetypes in many ways

unfortunately, there is a very large resistance to change especially when it comes to the veats/heats

luckily its totally possible to adjust the animation by yourself with a little bit of file switching

check out the tools, utilities & downloads sections to find out more.

The info may seem overwhelming at 1st but believe me when I say its waaaaay easier than you think

I'm real stupid and I figured it out so you'll have no trouble at all.

Its easy to criticize a suggestion but can you suggest an alternative?

Hey @Saiyajinzoningen

I did actually run across the thread that you were in with the suggestion about switching files. IIRC, doesn't it only switch the animation on your side and others aren't able to see it? I am still teetering with the idea, but may have to give it a shot regardless.

Honestly, this whole thing started because I wanted to/wish we could just use poses like /e stancehero2 or /e stancevillain2 while flying, but alas that isn't possible either as they immediately drop the pose with any movement besides X (fly down).

You are correct switching the files only works client side, so only you can see the changed animations.

&

You CAN switch out the default hover poses for those stances.

Sad that it's only client side, but I mean, that's really all that matters at the end of the day. As much as I still hold hope that the hover pose for combat flight change gets implemented in an official update, I think you might have convinced me to try the file switch.

Any recommendations for how to start the process? When I did read it on the other thread, it did seem overwhelming, so not exactly sure where to begin.

If it helps, I think what I'll end up doing is just changing the default combat flight pose to heropose2 and sticking with that.

I will try,  the path is "C:\Games\Homecoming\data\Player_Library\Animations\Male\hover_forward.anim"

Find wherever the homecoming folder is on your rig

create the folders | Data Player_library | Animations | Male | if they don't already exist.

Then take one of the following files ive listed and rename it hover_forward.anim

place it into the male folder then

load the game and decide which hover suits your pleasure

air_Stance_Heroic01.anim air_Stance_Heroic02.anim air_Stance_Villainous01.anim air_Stance_Villainous02.anim

Oh wow, thank you for the attachments!

Yeah, I had to create the folders: Player_library>Animations>Male since they didn't exist within data.

Regarding female characters, would I just create a separate folder within animations called female and then copy/paste the same desired animation within that? Or is the animation specific to the male character and I need a separate one for female characters?

yup that is correct afaik

there can also be a huge folder in addition to both genders

Alright, not sure what I might have done wrong, but the file didn't change anything.

I went into: C:\Games\Homecoming\data -- then I had to create the rest of the pathway: Player_library/Animations/Male (since those three files didn't already exist within data). I downloaded the heroic2 and renamed it hover_forward.anim and placed it into the Male folder. Booted up CoH, activated combat flight, but then no change. I also tried Villainous2 to double check (renamed it hover_forward.anim and replaced the original renamed heroic2 file), but still nothing.

Does it matter that I am using combat flight for PB and not hover specifically? It might be a stretch, but I tried renaming the file to combat_flight_forward.anim as well as combatflight_forward.anim just to try something and still no change.

I'm going to comb through that original custom powers thread to see if I can figure something out, but I'm definitely stumped at the moment.

its possible the PB use a different asset compared to the other AT's. Ill check when I get home later.

A lot of this is trial and error

at least for me anyway

Well, I figured it out after combing through the pigg files. Basically both Combat Flight (Pb's hover) and Energy Flight (Pb's fly) share the exact same animation, so I just had to change the text to fly.anim instead of hover.anim

That being said... Although it worked, and the pose is now changed, I'm sad to uncover that they share the exact same animation file. I think I'm going to keep the animation change, but I was hoping they would be different, so I could have the animation for just combat flight instead of both.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Dang!

I'm sorry to hear that, although I'm glad you got it working.

I'm not sure if this helps but when fly is suppressed in combat it uses a different asset known as

air_comb_fly.anim

Perhaps you can change that one so you have a different animation in combat VS outside of it?

also there are a few other fly animations to choose from besides the ones I sent.

I hope it helps.

OOooomg, that's a really good idea!! Doing that would give a much more ominous presence to the character during combat. Overall, the stancehero2 or stancevillain2 both look wonderful when moving at hover speeds, but a little off when flying at 100+mph (at least that's how fast I think my character is moving based on in-game stats).

I ran across the group of combat animations when I was digging through everything else, so I'm definitely going to try that when I get home to see how it feels.

Again, great suggestion on that one!
