Pine's Hero Designer 2.22

No offense, but IMO mids time is past. The UI is ... challenging at times. It would be much better as a web app, similar to the old suckerpunch one, but able to do some of the calculations that mids does. I wouldn't start from either, I'd start fresh and focus on user experience.

Many thanks for all your hard work!

One possible bug: Radiation Armor (all ATs) - Particle Shielding can accept End Mod enhancements but adding them doesn't change the Recovery on the Effects tab.

Great work keeping the builder up to date Pine, it's much appreciated. I do have some feedback, though; one thing that's always bothered me about Mid's, and now Pine's, is that the defense from stealth powers that suppresses in combat is included in defense totals. This defense is essentially useless; could the builder be made to not include those values?

You have always been able to change this. Options->Configuration->Effects and Maths->Suppression: Check 'Attacked'.

Great with an update - but something seem to have changed with the new version and I cannot find anywhere to switch it around.

On previous version, when you hovered the mouse pointer over either a powerset or a slot with an IO, it would tell you which of the IOs were currently slotted - very useful when purchasing/crafting IOs for various builds.

Now it seems I get effects of the individual IO + recipe build - or the total effect on the power by the slotted IOs.

Anyone know how to get "old style"? I have been clicking around in the options but have not been able to spot anything that matched.

Hello.

I am trying to use what I think is the latest version of Pines (2.22).  I'm running a Sentinel with Beam Rifle.  It seems like the options for the Beam attacks with set IOs aren't correct.  All I can pick from for sets are Sentinel's Ward, Opportunity Strikes, and superior versions of each.  Am I doing something wrong?  Or is there a way to correct this?

Thanks much.

There is a very high likelyhood that anti virus, chrome, windows and your IT guy will suspect this is a virus. If you have any reserves on installing this program, than I suggest that you do not. I can assure you that I personally have no idea how to even slip in a virus or trojan horse into this.

Thank you for all your hard work! Seeing updates to this software really helps fill out the feeling that the game is just as alive as it ever was. Its continued existence goes beyond just min-maxing new builds and gives weight to the game continuing to flourish.

Workplace antivirus programs are terrible. They also flag (and remove) the test software I've written every line for work. I'm running this on my un-managed test PC, so I can avoid having yet another conversation with our IT dept. for the 5th time this year. :D

Much appreciation for keeping this tool updated. When either my SO or I are sitting at our PC, staring at a character build for a ridiculous amount of time, we've started calling it "pining over Pine's"  ;D

Just a small existing bug still in effect for Warshades (and Preacebringers too probably, but haven't checked) - you can't "legally" choose the Flight or Teleportation pool without big, angry red letters telling you so in the tooltip, and powers chosen within the pool are red lettered and italicized. Those pools are available to the AT now in game.

Sorry if this is a stupid or tedious question (I’m a Tech-moron) but: Will this run on Mac OS?

It's neither a stupid nor tedious question. Seeing that so many asked in so many threads, I sat down and figured out how to do it.  Contrary to previous assertions, Pine's runs fine on macOS.  Takes about five minutes with "brew".  See my guide here: https://forums.homecomingservers.com/index.php/topic,4818.0.html

Quoting myself for the lazy:

Step-by-step instructions for getting Pine's Hero Designer working on macOS Mojave:

[*]Install Homebrew.

/usr/bin/ruby -e "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install)"

[*]Install wine & winetricks.

brew install wine winetricks

[*]Set up Wine. You might want to add these commands to your .bashrc, .shrc, or .zshrc file in your ${HOME} directory so you don't have to set it every time.

export WINEARCH="win32"

export WINEPREFIX="${HOME}/.wine32"

[*]Set up .Net 4.0. Follow the prompts, it's just the normal Windows installer in which you have to accept the license agreement.

winetricks dotnet40

[*]Assuming you've already downloaded Pine's Hero Designer, extract it into the equivalent of c:\Program Files.

cd ${WINEPREFIX}/drive_c/Program\ Files

unzip ~/Downloads/Hero\ Designer.zip

[*]Run Pine's Hero Designer.

wine ${WINEPREFIX}/drive_c/Program\ Files/Pine\'s\ Hero\ Designer/Hero\ Designer.exe

[*]Turn off "pop-ups", otherwise it gets pretty slow. But it works!

Example build I just made on macOS for my Rad/Rad Brute (playing around with what it takes to get to 90% resists on everything, with either Meltdown & Rune Of Protection always up):

Geez, that's buried. Thanks, though.

What about a proc chance using the PPM formula? Is that hidden in there too?

It looks like you are not seeing the other choices on the right of the Enhancement picker. Click another type of enhancement, and you can see more options.

Thank you so much for your reply!  This is exactly what I was doing wrong.  I was apparently in "untyped" because that's the top item.  I am really brand new to using the hero planner.

I used to assist St0n3y with testing Mids updates back in the day when he had stewardship for a couple issues and know 1st hand how laborious it can be to add items into the DB.  Thank you so much for the time and effort that you put into giving us and up to date hero planner!

Awesome, Pine's now includes Sudden Acceleration!

I've updated the macOS install & run scripts as below. I probably ought to turn this into a macOS installer like the Island Rum guys did.  Copy/paste the below script somewhere handy, like ${HOME}/install_pines.sh, then run "sh ./install_pines.sh".

#!/usr/bin/env zsh
if [ -f /usr/local/bin/brew ]; then
    echo "Homebrew found, proceeding..."
else
echo "Homebrew not found.  Please install homebrew & wine:"
    echo '/usr/bin/ruby -e "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install)"'
    echo 'brew install winetricks wine'
    exit 1
fi
# We're pretending to be Win2k, 32-bit edition.
export WINEARCH=win32
export WINEPREFIX=${HOME}/.wine32
# Turn off most of the fixme: debug messages...
export WINEDEBUG=-all
export DOWNLOADLOC=${HOME}/Downloads/
export DOWNLOADURL="https://uc7310449f3ebe2c8098a0a97105.dl.dropboxusercontent.com/cd/0/get/AjPo9UP2imBMcDmUsGQJV7kIZWNx4s011TWjdRxZ4u-YOJN_Mxt1U6zYS4nJNY47rW_TuldSmbMcOAHOb3s5yTmVb7vjCPLG5-UO9kL8ua6kRw/file?_download_id=0563891896500318120972107888994635916355951090329494503191636168&_notify_domain=www.dropbox.com&dl=1"
echo "If the download fails, please grab PHDInstaller.exe to ${DOWNLOADLOC} from"
echo "https://forums.homecomingservers.com/index.php/topic,5099.0.html"
curl -o ${DOWNLOADLOC}PHDInstaller.zip $DOWNLOADURL
echo "If you've already installed PHD, you might get an error from mkdir. This is normal."
mkdir -p $WINEPREFIX
echo "Installing .Net20 and .Net40..."
winetricks -q dotnet20 dotnet40
echo "Now running Pine's installer..."
unzip ${DOWNLOADLOC}/PHDInstaller.zip
mv PHDInstaller.exe ${DOWNLOADLOC}
wine ${HOME}/Downloads/PHDInstaller.exe -q
#echo "Now running Pine's Hero Designer..."
#wine ${WINEPREFIX}/drive_c/users/mbarnson/Application\ Data/Pine\'s\ Hero\ Designer/Hero\ Designer.exe

After you've installed it, if you want to run it again, this little script does the trick:

#!/usr/bin/env zsh
export WINEARCH=win32
export WINEPREFIX=~/.wine32
export WINEDEBUG=-all
wine ${WINEPREFIX}/drive_c/users/${USER}/Application\ Data/Pine\'s\ Hero\ Designer/Hero\ Designer.exe

Up at the top of the window there is a button saying "show recipes". You can toggle that off.

Is there a way to have this default to off? It used to be that way and IMHO it's the more useful setting but right now you have to click it every time you start the tool.

As Pine wrote: "Please report all number variations as this was done by hand... and Pine is not perfect."

Not sure if we do this here, but we found a rather funny typo that you may wanna check: For Sentinels in particular, the "Mu Mastery" Ancillary/Epic Pool power is actually written "Moo Mastery." (I have not checked all the rest.)

I was actually highly amused by this... reminded me of when a friend came across (as he predicted he would) Mu Kau in one of his redside missions. Regardless of how appreciated the humor was, thought you might want to be aware. :)

Have not noticed anything else as of yet, and thank you for the updates!
