I don't get it. Do they think I will use Quickbooks or call that number because they spam it 100 times?

Forums  - a place, meeting, or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged.

"it will be a forum for consumers to exchange their views on medical research"

Spam Response- Spam, in the context of cybersecurity, refers to any unsolicited and often irrelevant or inappropriate messages sent over the internet.

I assume it's just the volume of spam. Just the odd click by accident here and there adds up.

It's like spam email. Most of us delete it unread, a few people click thinking it's legit, and a few click out of fear. I regularly get the "we have put a trojan on your PC and captured video of you enjoying yourself on porn sites". Lots of threats of sending the videos to all my friends and family and work colleagues if I don't pay thousands in bitcoin. I don't go on those sites and I don't have a web cam. But there are enough people who are naïve and think it's real so pay up. Volume is the key.

Sadly the numbers support the scammers.  Even one / one thousandths of a return rate and one / one hundred thousandth of a hit after that the scammers get money and they keep going.

i supported an email system once many years ago and hourly 99.7 - 99.9% of incoming inbound internet was junk or spam caught by the various tools. I could not imagine the numbers today.

ty Homecoming team for cleaning that up,  I appreciate you keeping the site clean.

I can guarantee no one has pictures of me enjoying myself.  I have been miserable since long before cameras were invented.

Yeah, it's a volume thing. It's like scam calls. If you call 1,000 people, even if 999 people recognize the scam and hang up, as long as that one gullible/naive person says yes, that's a payday, and they have programs and bots to automate this process sending out hundreds of thousands of calls/emails/message a day for pennies on the dollar. People always say "how can anybody fall for this?" Sometimes they're old and they just don't know any better, maybe they're really young and don't know any better (a friend of mine in college almost fell for the "you owe the IRS taxes" scam call), or maybe they just really are that stupid. Whatever the reason, all it takes is one click and they get a good chunk of change. Scamming is a multi-billion dollar industry. They wouldn't do it if it wasn't profitable.

as long as the film / plate does not use a silver compounds.  that can seriously degrade or ruin the finished product.  only affects some vamps, and modern tech does not use.

Ah, you are not wrong.  The DRM that writes to off-limits areas of your hard drive was the deal-breaker for me.

companies would realize that ill placed ads have a negative effect

causing consumers to dislike that ad and/or product and/or company

There's a fine line between a numerator and a denominator but only a fraction of people understand that.

It's the price we pay for choices long ago. Email was new and wonderful and un-regulated and free and pure liberty for all, so we failed to organized and regulate it. Now it needs massive monitoring and filtering just to remain almost-usable.

Which is more or less the history of every online technology, and why I flinch when this week's tech bros brag about how free and open their system is.
