So I just finished an edit of the Options section of the guide, greatly expanding it based in part on BlackSpectre's updates, and it occurred to me I have no idea what one group of commands is for...

BlackSpectre's notes (which may be legacy, in part) say each is to hide that info from "the web page." Thinking from clever experience with how the terminology and focus has changed over time, I thought that might mean the character Info panel... that you could, say, hide your Badge pane from others. But nope.

Is this a leftover from the days when all alts could be/were listed on a website? I vaguely remember that but not the details.

Any info appreciated.

Back in the days of live, either Cryptic Studios, Paragon Studios, or both (forget which), tinkered with the idea of making all characters' information publicly accessible via the world wide web.  Much like the old City of Data, but not third party, and not as voluntary.  So the idea was that you would be able to hide your character or character's badges, friends, powers, and stats from the cityofheroes.com website by setting those options in-game.  It obviously never came to pass, probably for the same reason Cipher's original character viewer idea for Homecoming never came to pass.  Too much information, and constantly moving information at that.

Thanks, it comes back to me now. Is any part of that API still functional? Any hooks left to do that web-connect?

I vaguely seem to recall that any time they tried looking at it /testing it (never got to the test server itself,) it was just bogging everything down with the data being sent.

(Seem to recall the same thing being true with the city info terminals, actually, which is why they no longer showed the numbers in what groups you'd defeated. Which was a pity. I found it amusing to be a "Nemesis nemesis.")

Unknown if any of it's still functional - I mean, we had City Info Tracker back in the day for stats and such, but I couldn't say anything about the intermals of that.
