RAD/RAD Tank (Draft)

I've been looking all over for a RAD/RAD Tank build. I couldn't find one, so here's what I've come up with.

 

The goal is to cap Resistance and Defense.

I don't have sets yet, but so far, RAD/RAD is good, but I will fall over. But, my defenses aren't great with just IOs. Also, with all of my toggles running (10 total, not counting sprint), Endurance is a real struggle. I'm looking for suggestions for improvements. Thanks in advance!

Panacea +Hitpoints/End is a help for endurance, slot it in a passive that takes heals.  With Performance Shifter, Panacea, Numina's and Miracle, plus the plethora of recovery in Rad (Particle Shielding, radiation therapy, gamma boost all have endurance fixing components) I would be surprised if you had any endurance issues at all. If you still somehow find yourself with endurance issues you can just take Ageless incarnate and that solves everything.  I think Physical Perfection/Conserve power are way overkill once you have sets and procs, and you'd probably be better off switching to an AoE (soul - Gloom / Dark Oblit for tohit debuff works well for two power slots).

 

If you aren't using IO sets yet and are having endurance issues, slot endurance reduction into your click powers, they are way worse on endurance than most toggles (for some reason there is a myth that you just need endredux in toggles still floating around; that's just not correct).  If you've already got them slotted for endredux, nevermind!

 

You might consider fitting in some Tanker ATO's.  They aren't the best of the ATO's but they will offer a lot more than kinetic combats in every attack, and allow you to move some Smashing/Lethal resists around in your other sets.  If you're shelling out the cash for Superior Avalanches, you can probably manage the tanker ATO's.

 

Shield Breaker (or any defdebuff) seems like a strange choice for Ground Zero.  You're already throwing around enough -def with your secondary it seems superfluous.  I'd suggest slotting for damage/recharge and maybe a heal or something.

 

You need to fit a Shield Wall +5% Res all in somewhere (defense set).  You can mule it in Combat Jumping usually early on.

 

You need to fit a Reactive Defenses: Scaling Damage resist in somewhere (defense set).  You can mule it in Combat Jumping usually early on. This gives a flat 3% res boost to start with and goes up as you take damage.  It's worth it just at 3%, though.

 

You need to fit a Kismet: Accuracy in somewhere (defense set).  Again, Combat jumping is usually an easy spot.  This isn't actually Acc, it's ToHit, so it's very useful.

 

If you end up looking for extra slots, you can downgrade taunt to 4 mocking beratements, it's a good tradeoff compared to the zingers.

 

You should fit in an Aegis: Psionic Res IO somewhere, in a resist set.

 

Irradiated Ground is overslotted.  I'd move those oblits into Ground Zero, and instead put an endredux (+5'd), Fury of the Gladiator Chance for -Res, and Achilles Heel: Chance for -Res, you'll get a lot of -res out of that to make up for whatever minor damage you were getting from the power itself.  You can further enhance the damage if you still want more slots there, with some other set with a short, useful bonus.

 

Does radiation therapy really do enough damage to merit the slotting?  Seems like you could put those somewhere that actually does some damage and get more out of them (Atom Smasher works if or Ground Zero could use these instead as well if you don't like moving oblits). Again, you might consider changing your epic pool for an AoE if you're looking for damage.  Personally I'd put like, two doctored wounds and theft of essence: chance for +endurance or something in Rad Therapy and call it a day.

 

Almost forgot, make sure you also fit in a Gladiators Armor: TP/+3% Def in a resist set.  Another must-have.

 

Just my suggestions at first glance, hope there's something useful/interesting in there for you to fix your build up with.

Ok, I have now replaced my CoH addiction with a Mids/Pines addition.

 

I've taken the comments from here, and other places. This build soft-caps S/L/M. Fire, Cold & AoE are low 30%, the rest are low to mid 20%. Resists, S/L/Energy/Fire/Toxic are 90%, Negative is 75%, Fire & Psionic are about 48%.

 

It has Fly, you could swap out Hasten and take a P2W power if you wanted (I just really like Fly, it's a personal thing).

 

Beta Decay and Irradiated Ground are both toggle, they both do -Def and both are slotted to do a -resist. This could be nasty.

 

Auroxis' build had Support Core Embodiment turned on, it only lasts 10 second 2 minutes with a 2 minute recharge. Is it a toggle or not? I'm confused.

 

Quick update (10/2): I can tank now! This build works very well. I can stand at a Rikti Pylon and basically ignore them. I was able to Tank Lord Recluse indefinitely with no problems while my team smashed the pylons in the Ms. Liberty TF. In ITF, never a scratch, I don't think I used my heal, all the healing I needed I got from Radiation Siphon while I was hitting stuff. I'm a tank, so I don't really miss Hasten that much, but my attack and damage are kind of low and slow.

Howdy,

 

I am no build expert. But this is about the best I can come up with while trying to get Defense at the soft cap and resistances as high as I could while still having a few decent attacks and utility.

 

I am sure this build can be improved. And it is a lot more expensive then the one you posted.

On Rad, Fire, Elec, and any purely Resist-based Armor set, chasing Defense at the cost of Resist is generally a mistake.
If you can squeeze in a slathering of Defense, go ahead and do it.
But, with no DDR, it's horrifically easy to get stripped bare by debuffs, and if you've compromised your Resists...

Not saying this is the best or most usable build, but this is a basic look at how to maximize your Resists on a Rad/Rad build.

Excuse me, But Iwas wondering if any of you had advice on building an Spines/Rad Brute?  see tons of Farming builds for Spines/Fire, Rad/Fire, Fire/FIre but Not much on this combo. I want to play all the content with it, especially the endgame and Taskforce content (oh, How I love and ITF!) Is it possible to build this combo to be durable enough to tank the Big boys and girls and still be damaging? Your thoughts are appreciated.

Meltdown up every 34 seconds.  At which point you're 90% S/L/E/F/Tox/Psi with 77.8% Neg and 74.7% Cold.

If I look at @TacoHammer's build, vs @Hyperstrike's build, @TacoHammer was able to get Smash, Lethal, Fire, Cold and Melee, all near the soft-cap. Energy and Negative are 41%, Psionic is the only one that's "low" at 22.4%.

 

For Resists, Smash, Lethal, Energy, Fire and Toxic are 90%, Negative at 83%, only Cold (48%) and Psionic (40.5%). In @Hyperstrike's build, Defenses are pretty negligible, the highest is 13%, and only the Cold and Psionic Resists are higher. 

 

All this to ask, is it worth it to give up all that Defense for two Resists?

 

And, I just now noticed that @Hyperstrike's first build is for a Brute, not a Tank, so It's going to do more Damage. But the base damage, as I do a quick spot check, is pretty similar and as expected the Brute's damage is a little bit higher.

Been thinking of upgrading my Rad/Rad tank for some time and played around with Mids and leaning towards this one.

  • Not really "need" super fast recharge, though it's nice to squeeze in a few LotG Rechargers where I can.
  • Wanted more "spread" Resistances where I try to plug the Psionics hole, don't really care "that much" for the Cold hole...
  • Radiation Therapy: I could free up 1 slot from the Efficacy Adaptor... tho not sure where I would rather have it. (maybe knockdown proc)
  • Melee Def is priority since... well most mobs will be Melee so 🙂
  • No purples, but 3 Superior sets, so it'ls not super cheap.
  • It will be an upgrade from current build in many areas.

I'm sure this is a really dumb comment/question, but I am a complete newb. What are the things in parenthesis? (A) and (5) etc... Is (A) attuned and (5) the level of echancement? but that doen't seem to make sense. Anyway, thank you for the example, I'm just not sure about that part.

(A) is the first slot you get just by picking the power (Automatic).
Anything else is the level at which you added that slot.

Mids also has a tool built in to reassign slots in natural level progression order.  Rather than a build of "squeezed a slot in MUCH later", etc.
Slots/Enhancements --> Slots --> Auto-Arrange All Slots

Thats weird, I hadnt noticed that.  I'm taking musculature to try to get closer to brute damage,

 

I tanked recluse last night with it and its rock solid without any incarnates as is.

 

I'm taking melee radial for hybrid to increase defense, and agro as needed.

Aside from outcasts and hellions maybe trolls who does cold?   Crey cryos?  They will be dropped before it has a chance to matter.

 

I'm trying to think is there a high level hard target that does cold?  Frostfire doesn't count.  Maybe something in the tsoo or banished pantheon?

 

Then heal, regen and melee radial will take over.  I'll take those odds if it's the only weakness.

Council if you go PI +4/8 perhaps? Or majority is replaced by wolves, vampiri and those .. dark spam guys. The odd guy in CoT groups, but as you said.. they be down in a blink.

Yeah, it has been doing that for a while.  You have to turn off Musculature to get accurate resist numbers.  In particular, it boots the resist of SMotT, probably other things, too.
