Fr3akster Posted July 4 Posted July 4 Any opinion on ILLusion/Thorn Dom? I am not much of a dom player but this combo seemed fun. I really wanted something I could solo most task forces thoughts?
jprewitt73 Posted July 5 Posted July 5 Honestly, just about anything can solo TFs and SFs. It just depends on how much you want to spend on a build and what outside sources you allow yourself to use (vendor pets, external buffs, etc.). Illusion is a great choice due to Phanton Army being able to tank for you while you dish out control and damage. I think it would be a fun build, and you could easily use it to solo most content. I currently run a Dark/Martial Dominator and I've solo'd a ton of content without issue. So, you have to ask yourself some questions: 1. What level do you want to solo at? 2. What difficulty do you want to do the solo content at? 3. How much do you want to spend? 1

I've been able to solo normal enemy groups in iTFs at +4x8 but can illusion actually handle the AVs? the reason I'm asking is because i noticed it said illusion damage is similar to spectral wounds where it heals if the target stays alive too long, clearly AVs stay alive a while. is that not that big of a deal or is there some way to negate that? i was gonna go longbow for lore and that should speed things up a bit but i generally don't know enough about dominator or illusion to know if this will work or if it just wont at all. thanks
Frosticus Posted September 10 Posted September 10 Dominator version of Phantom Army has ~70% healback of the base damage. So if an attack does 50 damage, 35 is returned after 5 seconds. The amount that is healed back is consistent, but you can enhance their damage via enhancements, soulbound proc, and -resistance debuffs. So if you get that attack up to 150 damage, it still only heals 35 back after 5 seconds. As to your question of whether or not illusion/x doms can handle lvl 54 AVs? No not in my experience, it can't consistently confuse a +3 AV and put out enough damage at the same time. But if you are willing to pound inspirations, or use temps, or lore pets then pretty much any combo in the game can at that point. 1 1 Earth/Psi Dom - AV killer Arsenal/Sav Dom - AV Killer Poison - a guide to the most deadly poisons
jprewitt73 Posted September 10 Posted September 10 @R jobbus, listen to @Frosticus. They know their Dominators and what they can accomplish. If you want to solo AVs with Illusion, you may want to consider a Controller. Ill/Rad and Ill/Cold seem to be the consistent AV killers in controller land. 1
R jobbus Posted September 10 Posted September 10 thanks for the info yall. i was just playing a ill/marine controller, might look into /rad or /cold at some point. but I do love illusion dominator just cause it's fun. 1
Frosticus Posted September 11 Posted September 11 Ya my ill/Marine is definitely a few notches above my ill/savage on the power scale. But doms are my favorite AT. 2 Earth/Psi Dom - AV killer Arsenal/Sav Dom - AV Killer Poison - a guide to the most deadly poisons

And that's the main reason I love my Dominators. They're just fun. They won't be as powerful as some other AT combinations, but they are never boring and always entertaining. 3
