If you're doing energy 2ndary, you probably don't mind melee. Seismic is really good but wont work properly if you want to fly. I'd pick dual pistols, as the ammo swapping thing lets you really tune into what's missing in a group, and generally feels dynamic and fun, kupo... also, you can now use crossbows(!), so circle of thorns, demon hunter, or legacy chain estranged orphan cosplay style points goes up. -- Figs, crossbow specialist and traumatized legacy chain escapee 1

All 👍 😊 For my 2 Inf, if I wanted a Blaster that was going to lean into Melee, I would take /Atomic or /Martial before /Energy. From the previous discussion, I was left with the impression that /Energy was typically recommended for characters that were going to mostly stay at range and/or lean into secondary effects from attacks. This comment is not included as a blanket statement of attitudes, just that as a player that uses Energy Melee but wouldn't specifically consider Energy Manipulation(*1) for performance. My recollection is based on what I recall other folks advocating it for. Concept is a different kettle of fish. (*1) I happen to like Stuns/Disorients... my hesitation to /Energy is emphasis on single-target attacks (for a Blaster). Other secondaries mix-up the offensive potential more to my taste.

I kinda see the mixed melee / ranged (with lighter control) on a lot of blasters I don't just make fire or elec that way. I'd agree that Energy manip has a lot of great stuff beyond a bunch of melee with disorient, but if you're active and engaged, a lot of the time you're in or near melee. Plus, slotting diversity is good when you've melee mix in. I'd not ignore 5 powers in a secondary, just wanting boost range, build up, power boost, and energize. Rather lean into it; Stuns if they're in your face, a GTFO me power thrust, and then things like those mentioned. Boost range with dual pistols cones, and choices of ammo, is a lot of spread on debuffs and minor control. Biff Pow Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Energy Manipulation's melee attacks are great for hard targets like Bosses, EBs, and even AVs. Your primary attacks will more than likely wipe out the minions/Lts. easily, so I find more AoE damage would be overkill anyway. Combined with Blaster's +dam boosting inherent, Energy Punch/Bone Smasher/Total Focus put out a ridiculous amount of damage.

atletikus Posted August 19 Posted August 19 Energy Manipulation is particularly effective with primary powers that have short-range cone AoEs, such as Assault Rifle, since Boost Range will increase their range. Be mindful that Energy Manipulation is an exceedingly clicky power set, so it's advisable to use macros to help manage it.

terrasmash Posted August 20 Author Posted August 20 Thank you for all the info, I went with darkblast and Em took mystic for flight and the rune also stealth, idea is to use the to to get in mob then power boost and drop stun, Blackstar then use a combo of 2nd cone and life drain along with total focus and darkblast for clean up also moonbeam for runaways. Engerise is perma; would that take care of end? Have a build but on phone ATM. Aim and BU are 5sloted
