Sorting and filtering at character select

Topic. I just thought it would be a nice feature to have at character select to be able to sort by name, AT, level, etc.

And not because I have crippling altitis and forget what I have already made. I can quit making new characters anytime I want!

I have a tab per server.

At the top

Character column is locked. As I scroll to the right the columns slip under the character column so that is always visible.

I also lock that whole row, so that when I scroll up it stays in place.

 

Each of the boxes to the right of "Alternate SG?" have a formula to check which of the archetypes that the character is and puts a one in the box if it matches that archetype (which is used for the totaling below.

 

I break down the rows below that in groups of 10 (a page worth in the character select screen).

 

At the bottom the pages for the server I have a totalling section.

Mmmm... looks like I'm way past due for updating my spreadsheet. I didn't think I had let it go so long .... maybe I forgot to update the date ... or maybe I really am getting that old.

 

At any rate, I do periodic reshuffling by copy-and-paste.

Change the order to make more sense for one reason or another.

First many shuffling was to put my "main marketers" on one page ... but let's not go into that ...

 

The last big shuffle I had was to make additional supergroups on a server - basically a page worth per supergroup - so that keeps them together by theme/genre.

I already had pages set with supergroups going on with the other servers. One SG per page in most situations. I'm trying not to put more than 10 characters in a given supergroup in any supergroups other than the "main" supergroup I'm on on one of the servers - which you can probably guess from the character totals.

 

I also was planning on level-locking some at certain levels based on character conception. To do that, I started to do some color coding as well.

Doesn't this already exist? At the bottom left of the selection page you can filter. Is there another option you'd like to see added to the filter? I don't use it very often but I think you can search by name, AT or powerset.

Spreadsheet brother! I do this too but with a little less info and I only add a toon to the list once it's hit 50.

The filters are handy, but not quite as useful as a permanent filter option that would let me sort my characters by level and have my list stay that way/be able to reset it when it decides to randomly go wonky and move my characters all over. Sorting it by hand is a pain in the ass.

What formula are you using to calculate the archetype? I like this idea for keeping track of how many of each AT I have and which powersets. I use Excel for work, but my brain isn't coming up with the formula you might be doing for this on its own. If you don't mind sharing, that is. 🙂

Oh I gotcha, sorry I misunderstood, yeah that would be handy! Every time i fill up a page, it's a real pain to rearrange all my toons to keep my organization, it would so nice to just hit a button and have everything get organized by AT or something.

To be fair, I'm also assuming what I mentioned is what the OP is referring to. I do like the spreadsheet idea you and UltraAlt have mentioned, which I will implement at some point more just to have an easier visual on my many, many alts & to keep track of which AT's and combos I have.

 

But yeah, being able to have the character select screen have a filter option to order all my characters by level, that would be awesome.

Yeah I was wanting something a bit more permanent than the current filter, and maybe more criteria to search/sort by. I'm tired of manually sorting my characters from page to page.

Yep, I have a fairly intricate google spreadsheet myself.  For some stuff i track, I keep it up to date all the time, especially with tracking day jobs, but everything else can be done when i have down time.

I think there are a few more mission arcs, accolades to add.   I really should make a DB app at this point...

It would be very nice to be able to sort by Alignment, Super/Villain Group, Origin, and Archetype.... just because a fast tab to bring up what already have in those catagories would be a great QOL addition.
