Not only is Placate autohit, but it is also currently an 15' AoE that hits up to 5 targets with a 0.8 cast time.

  • That autohit is very nice.
  • It's a great 'oh shit' power. (Too much attention, Placate)
  • An amazing control power. (Target, stay here while I slaughter your buddy right next to you)
  • It is a great guaranteed critical. (This helps some powers significantly)

PowerPunch Placate.png Placate

Allows you to trick a foe into no longer attacking you. A successful Placate will also Hide you. This Hide is very brief, and offers no defense bonus, but it will allow you to deliver a Critical Hit or an Assassin's Strike. However, if you attack a Placated foe, he will be able to attack you back.

Long animation Assassins Strike from hide and striking with Assassins Strike after Placate mid-fight. Same 2,240.05 damage.

From a efficiency stand point you generally don't want to do the long AS after a placate as in combat even with no crit fast AS does more DPS, though if you want the fear effect or just want make sure something gets deleted it can be nice. I usually see Placate as a weird mix of people overvaluing it or undervaluing it. When leveling its absolutely amazing but once you get  with enough recharge/survivabilty it tends to not get used and alot of high end builds skip it.

It IS however very fun to use, and still nice utility, love it on my bane where it tends to get more value due to it being their only method of criting after combat starts.

ooh, i didn’t know it was an AoE - i only remember it from Ye Olde days where it was single target

It was changed pretty recently (i27p3). It's particularly nice if you have one of the stalker primaries with a PBAoE attack, as you get the (50% chance) stealth crit out of Hide.

I am really wishing I had room for it in my ice/ice build.

I've been mulling over an Elec/Shield with Afterburner and Placate just for funzie tele-nuke critage. well scratch that. I was just adding Spring Attack too.

that's it, you've twisted my arm! i'm going to make the ice melee stalker i've been mulling over

@Troo i organically levelled an elec/shield to 50, it's been really good fun. the double nuke is nice, however they don't crit and their ability to use procs isn't great

i'm hoping ice/shield will be the perfect combo. fast recharging AoE and cone damage through Frost and Frozen Aura, a fast and heavy hitting ST damager in Freezing Touch to compliment AS in a nice 1-2 succession. shield charge into mobs without breaking hide (as it essentially deploys a pseudo pet) and then get some crits with frozen aura

@Dungeoness Eloora how are you finding ice/ice? i have a build for it in mids and it looks quite fun. i'd mostly be taking it for chilling embrace, a nice herding tool for extra chaos

It's really, really fun! It has solid AoE from Frost and Frozen Aura, on top of being quite sturdy and offering soft CC tools. Highly recommend.

Does the Perfect Zinger psi proc break hide if slotted in Placate?  Please no answers that begin with "I think" or "IIRC...", looking for answers that are certain.

ETA:

I did what I should have done in the first place and just copied a character to test to see for myself.  That actually takes less time than composing a message.  Just FYI I went around the portal corp parking lot and placate with the psi proc put me back into hide even when the damage applied.  So the answer to my question, is "no".  This was with a Bane, I assume the same would hold true for Stalkers (but that is an assumption).

It might put you in hide, but I suspect that it would break the placate for the enemies that the proc fires on.

What this team needs is more Defenders

But did the enemies hit by the damage proc remain placated or did they become instantly aggro again?  You can be in Hide and still have enemies shooting at you.  Hide won't drop until you are hit.

I tried several tests:

1) crowd of about 5, did not attack, placated, saw the psi proc went off, they never aggroed

2) crowd of about 5, did attack, placated, after some period of time, they aggroed (as per usual)

3) spawn of 1, did not attack, proc went off, they never aggroed

Don't forget the proc for sleep powers which isn't as great as the real power obviously but for the low investment of one slot I like to fit it in when I can even if it's just in the bio aura or whatever.
