Because of the name release thing I am doing more and more DFBs

There are a lot of fights and people quitting because the badge failed.

My proposal is this, Dr. Meinst is trying to poison the cities water supply with dead bodies.  We need to click some valve release things that dumps/spawns cadavers out of the water supply.  Just clicking the X amount of objectives will grant the badge.  killing can be optional.  can also increase the exp on the spawned vhaz enemies to 'normal' elvels

either way im sick and tired of watching people kick masterminds who dont know any better or people flipping shit because xshadowxwarriorx's death shroud caused a(lot) massive meltdown(s).

We can only get the badge once.  I'll admit that I've  had many times in which someone ruined the badge, either on accident or on purpose.  Once, I took 6 tries to get the badge.  Most of the time I get it in one try.  When I create a DFB run, I say that it is a badge run, and ask if there is anybody who doesn't know the badge routine.  If someone doesn't know, I explain it.

I see no reason to change the badge routine.  Our devs should spend their time on more important things.

I agree people need to relax a bit when this badge get missed.

But it serves a important purpose for new players adding a challenge with a failure state and making sure they understand the context of a "AoE". It forces players to learn just a little bit about how their early powers function and how to figure that out. It also teaches players the importance of listening and considering how fast things move and how much trouble it can be to get players to listen to something as simple as "please don't attack" these days, I'm gonna say this is a VERY relevant lesson. For MM's in particular it teaches them the importance of maintaining control over their pets and not letting them run off and do their own thing, which is also a very important lesson

I succeed on this badge 90% + of time.  My solution is quite simple.

when the team goes to down the last group before boss fight i fly down the tunnel.  I trigger the 3 bombs near entrance to boss room.

i wait (flying) on my toon until boss appears.  I use a ranged attack (if on a melee this is the where the P2w attack like blackwand is useful.). I fly back to tunnel entrance where team us emerging.  The boss runs to us.

having the boss come to us gives a few seconds with no zombie agro. It alsi makes the boss easy to target.  The team can use any heals buffs debuffs easily.

one of the main reasons this badge fails is the chaos of the fight set up. So i remove that. Envenomed dagger and prefilled tray of med red inspiration also helps.

So, may I share what I do when I am tired of the incompetence or willful ignorance of others?
I just solo it.
Really, it's super easy, but you will find it easier only be being a 50, with more than a few temp powers at your disposal. Mind you - I'm only talking about the Dr. Meinst part, not the entire trial.

Tinder is a pushover for probably any exemplared 50. A few envenomed daggers and some reds, he's toast. You'll need some lucks, maybe. Depends on your AT/Build.
There's just as many mobs in there as a team of 8, so you're going to have be resourceful. Sometimes that means inspirations in email, and sometimes it means just taking the defeat, retoggling and finishing up. Depends on your build.

It is a pain, but you will know exactly what to do and more importantly, what not to do. You can kite Meinst if you have fly/hover or a jet pack, and heck, even if you just used Nem staff and black wand, you can probably get it done.

All of that is a pain in the butt. It is much easier to recruit specifically for this badge. If your concern is MMs who haven't learned how to control their pets, or fire brutes who don't know how to turn off damage auras, simply explain to them you've been screwed over too many times, nothing personal, but kick 'em. You might make two enemies and still not get the badge, but you did the best you could. There's always the pain in the butt version I laid out.

Funny thing, I once did one of these on a fire tanker and forgot that I had taken the damage aura at 1 instead of the shield.  The cadavers got to about 1/2 health before I noticed, but we still got the badge.

As for the suggestion, I don't think it needs to be changed.  Yes, you can fail getting the badge, but you can always run another DFB and try again.  Also, the badge is just a badge, it doesn't contribute to an accolade power, so there is no harm in not having it.

Finally, anyone who kicks someone for failing to get the badge is just a jackass.  I've never seen anyone kicked mid-DFB, but I believe you that it happens.

Yep.  Though I like to explain why I'm doing it.

Most of the time I've gotten this badge just with instructions, but I also haven't run a DFB in months.

I kicked someone on our second run because they thought it would be funny to fail the badge just before we took the AV down.   (We then did a third run and did fine without them)

griefing is one of the few reasons i cheer kicking

then of course i have created colossal failures myself unintentionally.  but thats just talent, not planning.

It is designed as a team game.

Coordination of teams is part of many challenges.

The team has 100 targets and 10 'groups' before Dr. Meinst to figure out how to work together.

Someone should mention badges if that is a goal before Queuing or soon after.

Defeat the Hellions in the sewers!
-The Burners 0/11
-Inferno Gang 0/11
-Burst Boys 0/11
-The Heaters 0/11
(the boss will not spawn until all 44 are defeated)
>Defeat the Hellion gang leader (This is a good place to start talking tactics for Dr. Meinst)

Defeat the Vahzilok in the sewers!
-Heads of Research 0/11
-Medical Testers 0/11
-Surgeon Squads 0/11
-Disease Control 0/11
-Corpse Handlers 0/11
(the boss will not spawn until all 55 are defeated)

>Defeat the Vahzilok leader! (Dr. Meinst)

Sometimes nothing needs to be said.. other times pets & damage auras need to be addressed. Sometimes addressing the bombs (esp if a weaker team of low hp ATs)

I doubt I have ever missed the badges two attempts in a row.

..or solo as others have described.

If griefing is taking place, report & kick. They get reported a bunch or in a pattern, all accounts attached to their IP address are at risk.

No one else need suffer them as you have.

ja klar!   erm... of course.

Troo has spoken trooth.  this is not a hard badge to get.  if we were addressing hard badges to get in the game this would not even make it into the top 50%  maybe not even the top 90%  it is ^slightly morer difficult than most location badges.  and i would argue there are a few location badges that are as time consuming or more difficult.  (the multiple stop ones, the hidden sewer one, the sewer trial one....)

Germanic.. ears hurt and here mine eyes bleeeeed.

..three possible meanings for this expression. WHICH COULD SNARKY MEiN?!

  1. First and more literal one is one you want to say that you agree with what the other people just said.
  2. When you want to say that what the other people said is obvious and unnecessary.
  3. In a sarcastic way when you want to say what the other people said is just no sense.

i would LOVE to be experienced enough with German to dabble in sarcasm.  and perhaps this was borderline, it was a reflexive "obvs"  (which i even translated as "of course")

I think i am coming up on 2 years German study (solo, Babbel, a few apps, youtube videos) and i can make out very slow basic sentences, and misunderstand those too often.  It is a tough language indeed.

so many of you missed the point.  im not reading the thread anymore.

my note is put in the suggestion box and if folks want to strawman thats fine but im out

people that are too eager to kick players in the mission designed for newbies deserve one star and a note attached to their profile. if they did it to the lvl3 MM that just asked "what does AoE mean??", then they will do it to You too in a fit of pique one day.

this is a game, it's supposed to be Fun. if You are getting upset over a badge: take lil Owl Break and come back when You can play nice =p

Well, I can let you know; telling folks they are 'wrong' when they are not actually wrong may be indicative of potential communication breakdown.. I am not using 1,000 slots, you aren't using 1,000 character slot. Let's just not.. It's one badge of more than fifteen hunderd per character.

maybe someone would prefer a simple /jranger

I've only kicked someone once, and they deliberately griefed the team. Caught them running down to the room while we were still in the "upper" area, told them to come back. They did. Reiterated the instructions. Went to pull the boss, they ran forward and started fighting zombies. Kicked them, but not before they managed to kill some.

I'll end up warning people about that person if I ever see them on a team, and they will *not* be on any team I run.

I guess a big problem with changing how you get any badge is the ego of some players who collect badges.

New players come in, and bring with them new thoughts, potentially different strategies, and then suddenly, Avoids the Green Stuff is now trivial. (on occasion, anyway)
A good many badgers have suffered a lot of disappointment on that badge. A lot of frustration to go around, let me tell you. Eventually, if you know the right folks, you'll get it.

If suddenly, certain temp powers were able to be used in iTrials when they weren't before, a lot of fairly challenging badges would become trivial.

Now, the world is not a fair place. And it would be silly to expect everything to be fair in CoH. But I think changing a badge to try and reduce ill will...some folks are going to be grumpy no matter what. It's out of our hands. Just can't let them control how YOU feel.

I don't think it really needs to be changed.

I do have to say though it is especially tough on a necro mastermind now as even your attacks spawn uncontrollable specters.  I've actually caused a failure twice (long enough in between to forget), while playing one because I forgot about that new little feature.  The second time I realized right after I attacked and spawned one and went "oh no!" and didn't think to use /release_pets in time.

Posted (edited)

It is an effective and easy test of people's reading/listening comprehension;  "Do NOT attack the zombies and do NOT use AoEs" are not difficult instructions to follow.  What I have found can cause problems is if it is not announced to be a badge run until right before the fight, or if someone, (usually a MM), hasn't fully grasped the game's controls yet...
