flakoff Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 As title says, real life means I lack the time or the will to try and grind to afford invention sets. So is there one that stands out. Leaning towards willpower or Regen for less downtime regarding end use.
nihilii Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 Strictly answering the question: Kinetic melee is pretty fluid on SOs, decent attacks of all kinds you can chain coupled with a solid damage/tohit buff that's going to have more uptime than anything else (save for Soul Drain in DM). Defense is king on SOs (well... king-er?), making Energy Aura a pretty strong contender for a secondary. Defense, resistance, a heal that helps with end management and an actual end management power, and a T9 with no health crash that also boosts your HP. It's really the full package before IOs. -- Questioning the premise: There is no need to grind to afford IOs. Going from lvl 1 to lvl 50, even on double XP (0 inf), you'll get rare salvage drops and recipes you can drop on the market for 1 inf and see what you get. Then there's merits you might acquire as a result of playing story arcs and TFs. Plenty of useful uniques can be bought for 2-5M a piece. Steadfast protection, Miracle +recovery, Kismet Accuracy (+tohit), Unbreakable Guard +7.5% hp, Reactive Defenses scaling resist, to name a few. Then there's sets of multi-strike and crushing impact that can be bought for 1M a piece and slotted in attacks for great power enhancing - and set bonuses on the side. Those prices are the lazy route, even. If real life means play sessions are rare, it's possible to put lowball bids on just about anything. I've bought more than 10 ATOs for 2 millions a piece. I've seen my auctions for Doctored Wounds fill up at 111k inf. With patience, there's a lot you can get for a fraction of the inf most players spend.

flakoff Posted July 1, 2019 Author Posted July 1, 2019 I thought something like willpower as a nice easy secondary maybe oaired with what? I still sticking with just so.
Nightmarer Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 I thought something like willpower as a nice easy secondary maybe oaired with what? I still sticking with just so. DM/WP is a very solid build with just SO enhancements.
Murcielago Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 DM/SR DM/WP Shield is OK with SOs, its very reliant on one with the shield though.
Bloodofcaine Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 I thought something like willpower as a nice easy secondary maybe oaired with what? I still sticking with just so. SO enhancements are kind of a waste of money. You will come out better with IO enhancements. You will save more money in the long run because you won't have to swap them out every few levels. if your play time is truly limited you will also save time by not having to stand in a store and replace your SOs
Gaidin Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 DM/SR DM/WP First, you should really consider getting basic IOs instead of SOs, as if you invest in level 30 IOs your're slightly better off enhancement percentage-wise and save a ton of influence by thr time 50 rolls around from not needing to constantly upgrade the SOs. Secondly, I also reccomend DM/SR if you're not doing set bonuses, as you can soft cap positional defenses and get the DDR to +95% to resist debuffs without set bonuses, unlike /Shields. Quickness, along with Hasten + attack slotting helps you achieve a good attack chain, since you're not getting recharge from set bonuses. I haven't loaded Pines up with this to see what you'd be able to squeeze out without sets, but if you can get 235% recharge (with Hasten) in Midnight's Grasp, you can run the optimal ST attack chain of MG>Smite>SL>Smite. Finally, DM gives you a self-heal in your attack chain, end management, and a to hit and damage buff, all of which /SR lacks. Finally, and this is big, if you're doing basic IOs (or SOs), you won't be using -res procs, so DM's damage type really means a alot for effectiveness.
Errants Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 see signature Have you swapped to using Level 25/30 generics, for better parity to SO level slotting? Because if you're still running 50's in those builds, it's not as helpful. Also, here's an SO/Common IO DM/SR build, power choices and slots for leveling... Not too bad. DSorrow Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 I'd have to go with Dark/SR or Fire/SR. SR is great with minimal investment and Dark synergizes with it extremely well: you get -ToHit to stack with your def and a self heal and +end power that SR lacks. If the lack of AoE bothers you, Fire Melee is a good alternative. If you're not dead set on the 100% SOs rule, a minimal excursion into the world of IOs can make both Dark/SR and Fire/SR capable of soloing AVs. Yeah, my Main is a FM/Inv brute that MarcusSmythe helped hammer out the final build, so not sure if I'd want to go FM again. It's been a loooooong time since I've touched Dm. Just need some AoE in there somehow. Btw, like your sig
Murcielago Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 Also anything BS or Katana, the +melee def from parry is useful. Katana/WP would be a smooth ride.
