It's what I expect them to be.  Extended Cameos.  No different than Endgame when it came to so many of them.

 While I see how your point has merit, how does that explain the large-cast movies: Civil War, Infinity War, and Endgame?  The last two remain in the top 10 highest grossing films, and even Civil War is #30 on the list (reaching a peak of #12 before other films released).  Each of them also score very high with critics and audiences alike.

Maybe I’m looking at that rumor wrong, but why does it feel like they are still just throwing things at a wall?

Heroes fighting heroes is kind of stock-in-trade for MCU films now, though usually it is only for part of the film.  Just some examples:

 

Avengers

Avengers: Age of Ultron (Hulk, Wanda, and Pietro all attack the Avengers at some point)

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Brainwashed Bucky vs. Cap & Friends)

Avengers 2.5 Captain America: Civil War

Thor: Ragnarock (Thor vs. Hulk)

Ant-Man: (Falcon vs. Ant-man)

Avengers: Infinity War  (Avengers with Dr. Strange vs Guardians of the Galaxy)

 

 

I'd see the Avengers vs. X-men as another contest due to misunderstand or perhaps manipulation.  I don't know about the "throwing things at a wall" bit, but it does feel like they find hero vs. hero more interesting at times than hero vs. villain.

I get the hero v hero thing.

I’m also very interested in an Avengers v XMen movie - but with MCU XMen, and not Fox versions.  I’d also like it to be an actual AvX movie, and not a subplot in a Doctor Doom movie.

If true, it just sounds like “what can we do to get people to see this?  Ooh, audiences like nostalgia.  Plus they liked the XMen movies.  I know, let’s combine them!!!”

Hence, my statement about throwing things at the wall.

Opening scene of the movie: Doom sneaks up behind loki on his thread throne, throws him to the ground, grabs him, points at the camera and says "Explain to the audience what that was, in detail. What does any of this mean?"

Waking this thread from its slumber, as various Marvel social accounts are teasing a DOOM-related anno. Particularly Marvel Brasil, and Comic-Con BR is next weekend…

SPOILERS FOR F4 and THUNDERBOLTS AHOY!

At the end of Thunderbolts, they take over (after some initial public doubts) as the New Avengers. In their post-cred scene, a very retrofuturistic rocket with a 4 on it shows up…

 

…while in the F4’s groovily retrofuturistic rocket-heavy Earth-828, the postcred has Sue reading four-year-old toddler and protogod Franklin, when a familiar figure in a green cloak shows up.

 

From this we can infer that Doom does something Very Very Bad in 828 - possibly and the F4 come to the main MCU to escape it, seeking help, or chasing DOOM.
 

We also know that DOOM impersonates the late Tony Stark to gain access to his resources and research. Though whether he naturally looks like RDJ or decides to alter his appearance to match via surgery, tech or magic remains to be seen.

 

From the casting anno last year, we also know that god/timelord Loki will be involved, as will members of the X-Men universe. Yes, including Remy LeBeau: and the last we saw of him in D&W was a Strange-style portal ring reflected in his eyes.

 

So what do you think/hope the reveal is going to be?

To be honest, I am really not that excited for this movie.  I just do not see it as saving the MCU at this point.

I don't really care about the hype - if the film looks and sounds good after general release, I'll put it on my radar.
 
I haven't seen an MCU movie since Endgame, and I haven't seen a TV show since Wandavision (maybe bits & pieces of Moon Knight and the one show with Werewolf by Night and Man-thing).

While I see your point,  I'm not sure the Doom action hits 828, at least not a Thanos-level attack.  Its possible that the F4 realizes some vulnerability in Franklin to Doom and chooses to flee 828 to protect Franklin.  It might also be possible that the dimension hopping was created by Franklin.

Oh, was that formally stated somewhere?  I'd always assumed they were going with the idea that Doom was the 828's variant on Tony Stark.  Much like the fun the CW's Arrowverse had in their dimensional crossover, when Brandon Routh played both his TV character, the Atom, and his movie variant of Superman, with the explanation being that in a multiverse, anything is possible.

If Loki's involved, then it's going to be interesting to see which Loki he is: the 828 variant?  or the 616 variant who is currently tied up on a very important task as of the end of the Loki miniseries.  If it is the latter, then explaining how he can be away from his "glorious purpose" should prove interesting.
 

 

 

 

So what do you think/hope the reveal is going to be?

I honestly have no idea, but as the movie is scheduled for 1 year from now,  I suspect it is probably going to be a teaser, not a full trailer, that drops.  And the teaser might be some behind-the-scenes filming of the movie rather than putting too many bits and pieces public.
