Apogee Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago I was looking over my spreadsheet of characters and out of the 200 or so characters I have, a few ATs I simply do not enjoy playing. I've tried all ATs at one point since 2004 but these are the ones I currently steer clear of for reasons ranging from how they play to a complete dislike of the class as a whole: Controller Dominator Mastermind HEATs VEATs What do you avoid playing and why?
Snarky Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago (edited) Defender, never Matermind, not my thing. very very rare Controller, no DPS, very rare Dominator.... rainbow Dom power effect. wonky monkeygrinder permadom. rare Sentinels. fun when they came out. No DPS, never again Stalkers, Blasters out DPS them. and you gotta be right in it, very rare Scrappers, not my thing. Almost never Brutes and Tanks. Homecoming put me off Brutes by buffing Tanks to the 9s. I stopped playing them. Tanks, not my thing. i have a few. I almost never play them. Khelds, never Soldiers, pretty rare So, i play My Dark Dark Corr, and a variety of Blasters. Edited 20 hours ago by Snarky
JKCarrier Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago About the only AT that's a hard "no" are the Kheldians -- they're just too fiddly and labor-intensive for my casual style. I mostly solo, so I tend to avoid "support" types like Defenders and Controllers. But I'll roll one up once in a while, just for the change of pace. Scrappers and Blasters are my defaults. --- 64453 - This Was Your Life? - An AE arc that lets you relive your hero's greatest triumphs! (Er, there may still be some bugs in the system...)
lemming Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago My current characters Blaster 12 Brute 16 Controller 7 Corruptor 4 Defender 3 Dominator 2 Mastermind 4 Peacebringer 1 Scrapper 11 Sentinel 6 Soldier 1 Stalker 5 Tanker 18 Warshade 1 Widow 1 As you can tell, a heavy melee bias Dominators for the longest time were not my favorite, but Arsenel/Arsenel turned out to be fun. I have one on deck I may level up, and a third is placeholder I never play my Khelds or Soldier I tend to play my tanks the most, then brutes & scrappers. Stalkers I like playing thru to 50, but don't play them as much when they get there. Sentinels I enjoy playing off and on. I just have six I enjoy running around with, and the others got retired.
biostem Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago I just can't seem to enjoy playing dominators. Controllers, I can have fun with. Blasters and melee ATs I enjoy, but the combination of ranged, melee, control, and seemingly no sustain or other such buff powers just makes dominators feel like a slog for me. I've even forced myself to get one to 50 and do the whole "perma-dom" thing, and still, it just isn't my cup of tea...
Paradox Fate Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago Stalkers - That you can whiff on a Assassins Strike, their signature move, in Hide even with capped accuracy felt like a Dealbreaker for me. And it goes on cooldown if that happens. Sentinels - I just prefer Blasters. 1
mistagoat Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Defenders and HEATs I don't dislike fenders I just prefer their Corruptor cousins. I have lots of issues with HEATs but maybe one day. 1 SPOON!
kanga Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago (edited) Defenders. I made one back in issue 6, never touched them again. Peacebringers. As much as I love the peace bringer power set, the lack of any defense or mez resistance just kills it for me. I have 2 that are just sitting parked, including one with perma everything and all knockbacks converted. its competent soft control and SOOOO flashy 🙂but likely never to be used again Widow. I just don't know about them, Not had a theme for one yet but will be happy to try it out Soldiers. I have one, but its stalled out in the 30's One day I'll push for it, i like the concept Edited 16 hours ago by kanga
MoonSheep Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago i feel like the outlier here, i tend to only play defenders or dominators now starting to play stalkers more. as a heavy insp user i tend to stay away from melee ATs as the secondary set of defensive powers is a waste for how i play alts - total contribution (damage, debuff, lockdown) is the most important aspect for me, survivability is provided by a few insps instead If you're not dying you're not living
BazookaTwo Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago Largely I avoid Controllers Tanks Heats Veats All feel slow or low damage to me 1
Scarlet Shocker Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Scrappers and Stalkers I learned early on that chemistry is just like cooking. From there I worked out that a mixture of Barium, Carbon and Nitrogen between two slices of bread gives you a delicious BaCoN sandwich
MonteCarla Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago (edited) I sense a pattern... The only AT I haven't got to 50 is Warshade, and my Peacebringer was human-only. After that it's Scrappers and Sentinels (3/2 out of 101 level 50s). I mainly lead Task Forces, and they're the best solo classes, so that makes sense. And very cool to see your stats, @mistagoat! Edit: adding my AT distribution in for my 101 level 50s Defender 22 Blaster 16 Controller 12 Tanker 10 Corruptor 9 Dominator 8 Brute 7 Stalker 4 MM 4 Scrapper 3 Sentinel 2 Arachnos 2 Peacebringer 1 Warshade 0 Edited 9 hours ago by MonteCarla The Badass Empath Guide Modern Force Fields Guide The Rich Alt's Guide to Perma-Dom Resistances for Brutes Proc Bombing for Defenders
UltraAlt Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago 8 hours ago, Apogee said: What do you avoid playing and why? Both of the VETAs. I have some villains but I have no reason to play a archetype that is that much under the thumb of Lord Recluse (regardless of what a character conception would have to say about it) I probably did make one of each before the Sunset, but I don't remember any enjoyment from playing them. If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore. (It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications) Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case. But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable. Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.
Jocantaro Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago (edited) Kheldians - Just no. Sentinels - Secondary powerset seems wasted, someone wanted to make tankmages the easy way and got it all wrong, Masterminds - They're fun at the beginning but then the micromanagement bores me. Corruptors - I spend half of the time wishing I rolled a blaster and the other half wishing I rolled a Defender. These I still play but less and less Brutes - Fed up of keeping my Fury bar full Tankers - Fun to lvl up but pretty much useless at higher levels due to the speed most teams kill everything plus, if memory serves, their dmg was nerfed recently so losing interest in tanks very fast. Controllers - Same as above, fun to lvl up but useless on high lvl teams because, cc is usually wasted at the speed high lvl teams plow through mobs, by the time your aoe hold or aoe immob activates, most foes are dead. Basically I play Defenders, Dominators, Blasters and Scrappers. Some Stalkers too since some melee powersets are much better on Stalkers than on Scrappers Edited 11 hours ago by Jocantaro
Logansan Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago (edited) My current characters by Archetype: Arachnos Soldier 1 Arachnos Widow 1 Blaster 13 Brute 9 Controller 9 Corruptor 7 Defender 6 Dominator 9 Mastermind 13 Peacebringer 1 Scrapper 5 Sentinel 4 Stalker 8 Tanker 14 Warshade 1 Total (* Torchbearer only) 101 On live my preference was Scrappers at first, later it was Masterminds. On Homecoming I started mainly with Brutes, Masterminds and Blasters but over time I learnt to also enjoy all of the others. Currently my favourite archetype is Tanker, two months ago I had less then 5 Tanks, now I have 13 with most being level 50. So far I haven't found a Archetype, Power Set combination I hated, but some are obviously more fun then others. When I start a new characters I normally start with a Power Set combination that I haven't already used and then look for the best Archetype for that combination (except when I got a clear favourite, like I currently do with Tankers). As for which I avoid, none really, but I just don't see much point in having more then one of each of the Epic Archetypes. Ghost Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Love my human only WS and my human/dwarf PB As for what I don’t enjoy. Trollers and MMs. I’ve made a few of each. Run em through 2DFBs and both Posi’s before usually becoming really bored and deleting them. 1
Uun Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Here's the breakdown of my 50s on HC. I try to go back to ATs that I haven't played in a while, but I have no interest in playing HEATs or VEATs. I did have a lvl 50 Warshade on live (back when you had to unlock them and they would randomly spawn Shadow Cyst Crystals in missions). I feel like they're a Jack of all trades, master of none. I've never been in a situation where I've said "boy I wish we had a Kheldian on the team". Some people feel the same way about sentinels, but I find them fun to play and feel like they're in a pretty good place since the last revamp. My main issue with VEATs is that I find the character concepts too limiting. Uuniverse
Riverdusk Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Dislike: Tank - Solo I don't see the point and on a team I don't like the playstyle Blaster - Feel too one dimensional and too squishy until you build them up Defender and to a lesser extent corruptor - Feel like they don't have either great damage or great tankiness. If I want to do a support I'd rather just do controller. PB/Warshade - too fiddly Favorites are: Controllers - Safe but slow early which I find fine and later they can be good damage (at least the sets I play like plant, illusion, and the new electric, still need to try pyro). Scrapper/stalker - For when I want to melee, plenty tanky enough for me and very good damage. Mastermind - For when I'm in the mood to be chill actually (I just don't crank up the difficulty too high when I play one). Newest favorite recently promoted from my so-so list: Dominator (Plant/Psi in particular anyway, I'd say it definitely....dominates....pretty much anything I throw at it. Ended up loving the changes that were made to plant control after initially being skeptical). So-So: Brutes/veats/sentinels
tidge Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago The way primary/secondary powers are getting ported to just-about-every-AT, I find it easy to pass on characters that have mechanics I no longer feel like dealing with. So... Dominators: I feel like I've more-or-less solved the "permaDom" equation, and because permaDom so radically improves their performance while simultaneously limiting my slotting creativity, I find it more fun to roll with a different AT. Brutes: I find Fury to be a PITA, and frankly it reminds me to much of Domination (when not permaDom) so other ATs fit my concepts just as well. Kheldians: They don't offer enough variety that makes me want to have more than one of each... because multiple builds are a thing, and other ATs get similar attacks. All I really need is a Benovo Labs costume for the non-human forms, and I could mimic Squids and Lobsters easily. I generally don't roll with Corruptors, but that is because of when I want to pick certain powers, and a personal feel about buffs/debuffs/damage scales After that everything is fair game... although I probably won't ever roll another Widow, and the Soldiers basically (now, for me) require a concept with a gun. I really enjoy both, but each falls into the "problem solved, limited concepts" category. Of course... I just thought of a potential Widow... need to investigate! BRB
VPrime Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago I do not play Blaster, Controller, Defender, Stalker, Sentinel, Corruptor, Dominator. I do not play them because I have not came up with a character theme/concept that fits the in the overall world/story of my characters. Hedgefund Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago My breakdown of 50s: MasterMind 31 Stalker 31 Blaster 23 Controller 17 Corruptor 17 Dominator 12 Defender 11 Tank 11 Brute 9 Sentinel 7 Scrapper 5 VEAT 4 Peacebringer 3 Warshade 1 Grand Total 182 The top does match what I would consider my 3 favorite ATs - MMs, Stalkers and Blasters. The data is deceptive for Brutes because 6 of the 9 are (old retired) farmers and farm spec only. I've not even bothered to get them p5 AFK compliant. Sentinels are overstated because I made them all in an effort to try out various types of Sentinels. I don't expect to make another absent some major overhaul. The VEAT count understates my like of them but with a Bane, a Crab, Widow/Fort (I use a second build, both fully fleshed out) and Huntsman there's not a lot of other flavors to try. So my answer to the OP is Sentinels and Khelds. Thinking about it I'm probably done with Scrappers too. 1
Triumphant Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago (edited) I don't play: Defender: Not so much that I'm unwilling to play them, but haven't come up with a character concept that would fit best with this particular AT. Dominator: Mostly, like @Snarky, I hate that incredibly stupid-looking sparkle effect. I like the AT, though, so I may work on overcoming this revulsion (or trying to come up with costume/auras that can somewhat disguise the effect. Mastermind: Don't like 'em. Too fiddly and the dudes running around all over, obscuring my visual field and blocking traffic, greatly annoy me. HEATS/VEATS: HEATS- I hate the form changing aspects of the AT. VEATS: Have tried soldiers once or twice, but not widows/fortunatas. Need to explore the AT more, I suppose- but it's not really a priority for me. Edited 3 hours ago by Triumphant 1
Captain Fabulous Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago (edited) I have yet to play a VEAT soldier. It's the only AT I've never ever played. MMs are pretty rare for me, tho I do have a lvl 50 Merc/Traps I very much enjoy. Defenders are rare too. Can't say I have a favorite AT. Edited 2 hours ago by Captain Fabulous
LegionAlpha Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago What attracts me to ATs are powers for RP theme and so far Corrupters, Peacebringers, Widows/Soldiers, Stalker and Warshade has nothing I can't find in another and with a better theme I guess for my head canon currently.
kelika2 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago numerically its the epic archetypes, not because they are bad or anything its just they dont have much replayability i mean once you go from gigamax epic enhancements/atos/pvps with insane amounts of recharge at all levels with 95% nova form with damn near blaster tier damage fucking everything up all the while having just enough extra slots to keep rezzing yourself you cant exactly go back to a ranged defense/dwarf/human form anymore and when you tier4 all your incarnates there just isnt that much of a carrot on a stick having a separate bane spider because of the crab backpack was neat after the bane buffs one widow 3 specs rest of the ats i kinda made peace with. well more or less weeding them out to boil off the bad alts fire/trick trollers are still fun trick/fire defenders are still fun. oil slick at level 19 with exemplaring still gets me hard
