Ultimo Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago So, I like to log my characters out in places that reflect their day jobs. It's kind of a RP thing, so it's not something important to everyone, but the system exists, and some of us like to use it... but there are jobs I'd like to see added that aren't available as yet. I thought I'd start a thread to suggest new Day Jobs. I hoped people might post their own ideas in the thread, and I'll update the list occasionally. I'll start: Reporter - Small Perception buff, log off near a quest NPC (ie. they're being interviewed) Construction Worker - Small endurance buff, log off at a construction site Taxi Driver - Small influence buff, log off in a parking lot Soldier - Accuracy buff, log off in a military facility Pilot - Movement buff, log off near an aircraft or at an airport Ambassador - similar to City Official? Ruler - The character is the King of Atlantis, or what have you... probably similar to City Official? Pro Athlete - Perhaps similar to Duelist? Student - small xp buff, or perhaps freexp buff? Logout at a school or university. Homemaker - Housewife or husband Domestic Servant - a butler or housekeeper. Celebrity - an actor or model, or other famous personality

(Patroller doesn't count because you get credit for that no matter where you are or what you do.) I would say make this a news station location like WSPDR, but the only such location I can think of for that is WSPDR. 1 hour ago, Ultimo said: Ruler - The character is the King of Atlantis, or what have you... probably similar to City Official? Being a ruler isn't a day job. Even for those supers that are rulers in the various comics it isn't their day job. Just put it in your bio. 1 hour ago, Ultimo said: Student - small xp buff, or perhaps freexp buff? Logout at a school or university. Universities already give the Professor day job. You can't get credit for more than one day job at any location. (And the only schools in the game I am aware of are the universities.) 1 hour ago, Ultimo said: Homemaker - Housewife or husband Domestic Servant - a butler or housekeeper. And where would these day jobs be considering any housing areas are not on the map and the only mansion is an instance mission or the Midnighter's which already has its own day job. (Does Croatoa count as a housing area?) 1 hour ago, Ultimo said: Celebrity - an actor or model, or other famous personality And what would be the day job location? I would recommend just making this part of your character's bio. Construction worker should be fine as I don't believe any of the construction areas fall under any existing day jobs. What would count as a military facility for soldier though? I think all the Arachnos, Longbow, and Vanguard areas already get their own day job badges. I'm going to leave Pro Athlete alone other than they would probably be dropped for unfair advantage having super powers and all.

The TPN complex in Imperial City is a perfect place too. 6 minutes ago, Rudra said: Universities already give the Professor day job. You can't get credit for more than one day job at any location. Agreed, can't do both Professor and Student at same time, so it would have to be 1 or the other. 6 minutes ago, Rudra said: And where would these day jobs be considering any housing areas are not on the map and the only mansion is an instance mission or the Midnighter's which already has its own day job. Yes, I would think logging off at one of the houses in Croatoa would count, as well as any of the Brownstones / Apartments in Kings Row, Founders Falls, Brickstown, Peregrine Island, Faultline, any of the Rogue Isles except Grandville, and any of the Praetorian zones. Park on a stoop or on the roof of the building, I guess?

Ya, I know you can only have one day job per place, but I'm sure they could divide them up a bit. For example, going to the lab areas of a University might give you the Professor job and the libraries might be the Student job. Where two jobs are in close proximity, it could just apply the closest one (as with the Tram and Base Portals in Talos and Brickstown). Being a ruler CAN be a day job, of sorts... as can being something like a celebrity... but I'll agree the locale appropriate to it is a bit hard to decide upon. I'm just putting the idea out there for consideration. Military installations are few and far between, I agree... perhaps being in a conflict zone, like The Hollows, might be appropriate. I have a couple of characters who would fit the Pro Athlete job, one is a (former) professional Sumo, the other an Olympic Archer. Right now, I've got them logging out in the Arenas, but with Galaxy inaccessible, the only Arena blueside is in Peregrine, making it nearly impossible to get to for lower levels... and the Duellist job isn't QUITE right. Perhaps they could just rename that Day Job?

BasiliskXVIII Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago The university courtyard doesn't yet have a day job. It could be that logging out outside on the campus gives student and inside the building gives professor

Superheroes/villains that are also rulers like Aquaman, Submariner, and Doctor Doom are diplomatic problems for all countries involved. (There is a reason why Doctor Doom will never face arrest for his actions for instance and why the UN is always worried about war with Atlantis whenever Aquaman and the Submariner are involved unless they are standing with an internationally recognized super group saving the world at the time.) And then there is also the question of why a ruler would subject himself/herself/themselves to such menial tasks as running errands for contacts or street hunting random mobs or even taking orders in general from most of the contacts in the game. My opinion is that things like being a ruler are best left in the bio. *shrug* (Edit: Or just grab one of the ruler/king/queen badges already in the game.) Edited 15 hours ago by Rudra

And unhelpful suggestion: There is a throne room in the Labyrinth. Violet Wide Caves. (I'm with Rudra on this being better as just a RPG thing) On athlete, there is a stadium being built in Kallisti, though now it's more for construction. Though I'm more for just saying what your job is. It's already 3200 hours to get the dayjobs that are in the game. (not counting patroller) 1

Well, what I mean is, while the player isn't actively playing the character, he's off ruling his realm... you know, doing the day to day things we don't do in the game. For example, Doom isn't ALWAYS trying to conquer the world, there must be times when he's balancing the Latverian budget.

Or they are continuing to follow the 1,000 year budget plan Doom set out when he took the country. (You know how Doom is when it comes to managing things.) Or one of his many Doom Bots. *shrug* Anyway, I still think you are missing what it entails to be both a national ruler/leader and a superhero or supervillain at the same time. You have ministers and generals and other subordinates, each of which have their own subordinates who also have their own subordinates and so on to deal with the various minutiae and assorted tasks that our characters routinely deal with. Why deliver an item to Azuria in MAGI when you can send a competent subordinate of a subordinate of a subordinate to make the delivery instead? For that matter, why even bother with such a no-name contact (as far as you as a ruler and the international community are concerned) when you can have various operatives getting all that done for you while you deal with much more important, and grand, issues? The questions players already have for Masterminds doing various in game tasks scaled up with the added insult to the country in question of the insolence of Paragon City to make their leader do mundane tasks. You will never see Aquaman or the Submariner, let alone Doctor Doom, running errands for anyone. If they are involved in something, it is because it impacts their country and they are having a say in the matter, whether verbally or forcefully. To the chagrin, consternation, fear, or concern of the other nations of the world and any international political body. Just food for thought. Not looking for an argument, so I'm not taking this any further. Edited 9 hours ago by Rudra Edited to remove unnecessary "deal". And again to remove unnecessary "do". 1

Perhaps they could just rename that Day Job? The Peregrine Island Arena is very easy for Blueside Toons of all Levels to get to. Take the Tram to Kings Row. Go to the doors of the PPD Headquarters, which accesses the roof helipad. Take the Free Fire Zone Transport helicopter to: Bloody Bay for the Predator Day Job Badge after 100 hours there logged out. Then to Peregrine Island. The passage between the helicopter and the Arena is very safe. Spend 100 hours logged off in the Arena for the Duelist Day Job Badge and the Gladiator Day Job Accolade. The spend more time logged off to charge 30 minutes on the Day Job Combat Shield. 1 Remember! Let's be careful out there!
