I have been having trouble with the games Level of Detail. Objects and textures in game will pop in to existence in a jarring manner instead of fading from their low to high detail levels. What this means is trees that are 2D will suddenly pop into 3D with no transition, objects will suddenly materialize without transition, and billboards will go from blurry smudge to full resolution in the blink of an eye. Not a pleasant experience at all, would like if it could be fixed or if there is a workaround

Maybe try

 

/vis_scale 4.0

 

That extends your range of vision across the map to the max. If it's too much you can adjust it down, the range is from 0.5 to 4.0.

 

 

In addition, there are detail sliders for world and characters respectively in the Options menu under Graphics and Audio.

Is Vis Scale different from World detail? I will try it

 

Edit: Oh wow, Vis Scale seems to have helped a lot! Where did you find out about that command? Is there a list somewhere

 

Edit2: Oh, vis scale just sets world detail. Well while that works I was hoping for a less graphic intensive option :(
