couple of questions

-- could you share your bind on distortion field?  that's one of the few downsides I have had so far playing a bots/time MM.  usually running around 0/+5 and it is very difficult to get the mouse targeting to go where I want in the mass confusion.  I looked through several bind guides and the best I have come up with so far is:  /bind g "$target!$$powexec_name Distortion Field"  this doesn't fire off the distortion field but at least places the targeting circle in close proximity to the target.  so I hit g and then mouse click to activate.

-- for my MMs, I usually take maneuvers and weave but that seems to be a bit overkill here once I get leveled up and have scorpion and power boost.  I know power boost isn't always on but when I have maneuvers, weave, scorpion and farsight active under power boost, I am at 80% S/L and around 50% + for everything else.  looks like I could probably drop weave and free up 3 powers, maybe add to the leadership options or travel powers.  good idea?  or better to have the extra to still be close / over soft cap S/L without power boost or allow for a def debuff or two?

I type this into my chat window for my bind:

/bind g "powexec_location target Distortion Field"

Now when you press "g", you will activate Distortion Field at the location of your target.

As for your defense question, you should let me know what your numbers look like without Power Boost on, so I can calculate what your perma PB + Farsight looks like. If you have a mids build, that would help too.

here's a Mids,

So my numbers indicate power boost will add about 6.1% defense to your build, which will be perma'd. You already have softcapped defense in S/L/E, and with power boost, you will hit softcap in melee. Everything else will be short of 45% defense. But still, you're close and overall it looks really good. If I were to suggest anything, I would aim for more range defense and less melee, because of Time's juncture's PBAoE, you don't need softcapped melee since anything next to you will be ToHit Debuffed.

Now, everything I just said does not factor in your Protector Bots. With those active, it looks like you have plenty of defense and would probably not need Weave. However, the LotG is still nice to have, so perhaps you keep it as a mule, but allocate the 2 other slots to somewhere else in the build.

Now, if you'd like advice on tweaks to the build, I might have a few suggestions. For example, I don't think you need accuracy in your Slowed Response. With Power Boosted Farsight, you should be hitting your targets with ease. Also, if you are level 50, you might want to look at different Alphas. I would recommend Intuition T4 radial, or Musculature T4 radial. I prefer Intuition because it pairs so well with Time Manipulation - it increases holds, damage, defense debuffs, tohit debuffs, and slows. Also, you might want to look into Procs, you can do a lot of damage with your Time Manipulation powers...like Distortion Field being able to take 4 procs (not counting the unique which you have slotted in time stop), or Slowed Response being able to take 2 damage procs (and it hits fairly regularly if you don't put too much recharge in it). Anyways, that's just some food for thought.

  • 3 weeks later

this is the macro I use for my distortion field and it makes using it way easier

/macro_image, TimeManipulation_DistortionField.Texture "Distortion Field""Powexec_location me Distortion Field$$powexec_location target Distortion Field"

this will add a macro button to your tray with the same icon as Distortion field.....if you do not have a target it will place Distortion Field at your feet....... if you do it will cast it on your target. this same macro setup can be used for all click and drop powers. (just change power set and power you want to macro) this has made my life 1000 time easier

  • Thanks 6

Hey Bopper, good read! Well done! I'm wondering if you can tell me what exactly you placed in your DISTORTION FIELD to make it a damage field. You mentioned the procs etc but I am just getting around to seeing the benefits of procs. Also, if you don't mind, could you post your build?

I'm starting out with a Time/DP defender and am wondering about what to take etc. I see another player posted their build and it's not bad! I'm curious about what you have.

At a minimum, I 4-slot DF with the regular procs (1 slow, 3 holds, all 3.5 ppm). If I want to be more AoE damage focused, I'll add the purple hold proc (4.5 ppm), otherwise, I slot that into suppressive fire for ST damage.

I usually run out of slots but I'm not against 6 slotting for set bonuses, if you like those options. Remember you can reduce the recharge of the power and it won't impact the procs in DF since it's a pseudo pet.

As for a build, I'll find one when I get home and post it. I'm honestly always tweaking things, so I should ask how do you want to play and ill post one that matches (solo? Team? Single target? AoE? Etc?)

I team, PvE and prefer the AoE type play. ST is fine too. Thanks!

Ok, I made 2 very similar builds. I have a Time/DP/Soul which is extremely AoE focused. With Power Boost, you will be defensive softcapped to everything, and with Clarion + Power Boost you will defensive softcap your team. You are hard capped in S/L resistance and you have some decent Negative and Toxic resistance (although, those are rare damage types).

I also made a Time/DP/Power build. The benefits of this build is you will be able to to softcap your defenses earlier as you will have Power Build Up at level 35 (as opposed to 44), you gain Suppressive Fire (which is a nice single target proc monster...that could proc Build Up often and hold bosses in one shot). The down side, you lose Soul Drain which is a fun AoE mini-nuke, and you lose the Negative and Toxic resistances.

I have a build similar to the first one and really appreciate your input! Tough to decide between the two but I am going more AoE!

A bit of a Necro - post, but now that Blasters have Temporal Manipulation have you played with it at all?
Any feeling or advice, or did it not hold your interest?

Thanks!

I haven't played it. Other than Time Stop and Time Wall (which is similar to Time Crawl), all the powers in Temporal Manipulation is different. So there isn't much use from this guide that applies to the Blaster version.
