What's up with the Complete Holding Area 100% in Island Rum then proceeding to promptly DO NOTHING discernable for a long time (until you quit the client, basically).

Weirdly enough, I can command Island Rum to do a Rescan, and it will then not only "find" my installation of the game client but allow me to launch it and play it.

So there's a workaround for the Complete Holding Area 100% dead end trap, but it makes remarkably little sense.  @Manga?

I had this issue as well, apparently because I was launching Island Rum from my Downloads directory rather than moving it into Applications as the directions indicate I should have done.

I re-downloaded Island Rum and put it in Applications, and now I don't see that issue. Not sure if the same will work for you.

My issue after finally getting the 64-bit client to run is that my sound is 'laggy'; I can hear definite echoes and other indications of sound lag, and most significantly, when I first zone into an area with music, the music will run at a decidedly slower tempo for about five seconds or so until something 'catches up'. I didn't notice this under the 32-bit client, so I'm curious if anyone else has seen this or knows a fix/workaround.

So my problem isn't specifically with Island Rum, but since the UG to 64 bit, I can't load keybind files using /bindloadfile. Not sure if it's a pathing thing or what. But even loading a simple script doesn't work.

Steps I take:

1) /bindsavefile test.txt - client says "Keybinds saved to test.txt", check coh/data and there is indeed a test.txt file

2) without touching that file, I immediately execute "/bindloadfile test.txt" - "Unable to read in keybind file: test.txt"

Any ideas what might cause this? I would try adding in pathing, (I used to be able to use z:/ as a pointer to the MacHD outside of Wine) but I can't seem to figure out what the new paths would be.

Anyone seeing this issue? It was launching fine the other day. Haven't made any changes to anything. Have re-scanned and all fine. I click the tick and what you see in the screenshot appears, and the game doesn't launch. Am a bit stumped. My Mac screen occasionally flickers... but nothing else.

Im still having trouble with Island Rum launching the 32bit homecoming. I get a program error every time. I was getting help for it from the GM AmonRa but it was clear that my mac was too old to run the CoH game. (My mac is 2011 early El Capitan 10.11.6)

Having an issue with CoH loading in a window rather than full screen all of a sudden; not a big issue other than Nav Menu, Chat, Target, Power Bar, interactive popup windows, etc... do not appear on the screen.  I've been running CoH 64bit for months without issue and am still operating on Mohave 10.14.6. [MacBook Pro 2017 15in, 2.9GHz i7, 16GB LPDDR3, Intel HD 630/Radeon Pro 560].

I am having the exact same problem.  I had it working fine, but over the weekend it stopped.  Everytime I log in, I can select a character, but all I see is the world.

Add me to the list of those suffering from missing UI.

Although its a bit hard to tell, I think its possible that I can't type commands either.

I made a second account to test whether or not the issue was limited to one account only, but it seems I cannot get past the Register screen to enter the game on that alt account. not sure how this may relate to the above issue, but thought I'd mention it. Also cannot actually enter the game on Pineapple.

Haven't been able to play for a week. Quite frustrated.

Mac OS Sierra 10.12.6

Island Rum 111720191

I’ve been running Homecoming 64 bit fine for a while.  Recently on attempting to launch, I have started getting a city of heroes window which is all black with another tiny cow window on top of it.  The launching graphic shows as well, but it hangs there.

I noticed from the thread several other members having this issue. I don't have a solution...yet, here's what I've tried.

1237659426_ScreenShot2019-11-16at6_01_38PM.png.f6a03582e24db70bc18b4f846c3aab8f.png

One change is that I used the terminal commands required to get Mids Reborn running.  This went fine and have been able to use Mids and Heroes.  This may have contributed to my CoH ceasing to function, if not being the direct cause.

For Mids Reborn, I followed a post:

MacOS Install Guide *Catalina Not Supported*

  1. Install Homebrew using this command in the terminal:  /usr/bin/ruby -e "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install)" This should allow for the installation of both Wine and Winetricks, which'll go as follows.
  2. Install XQuartz, required for Wine to work: brew cask install xquartz
  3. Install Wine and Winetricks: brew install wine | brew install winetricks
  4. Install the .NET 4.7.2 libraries via Winetricks - follow the prompts that appear: winetricks dotnet472
  5. Download the macOS/Linux Mids ZIP file, and extract it. Open a terminal up at that location, and then run this command: wine "Hero Designer.exe"

After this sequence, Mids Reborn worked fine, as did CoH Homecoming.

I also have an Application CoH (5.5GB) that has the CoH icon and was in the applications folder.  Others have had success moving it to the Coh folder, which I have tried. I also noticed it "moved" to the documents folder at one point. I tried moving it back, and on suggestion placing it in both applications AND the coh directory.  Also, at one point, the 64 bit version was greyed out.  This last positioning of the application, and using island rum resetting path and rescanning finally got new game files to download, 40-50, and 64 bit became active again.  When launched, got an error, below.

I Downloaded the app new from the link

http://telstar.eekstudio.com/macclient-wineskin.zip

and it resulted in a CoH app under 500 mb. The one I already had, dated 4.19, as mentioned, is 5.5 GB.  Not sure which is the one to use, and where they should reside. I tried each in all permutations of locations. I have no idea what the application is for, as I understand the game exists in the coh directory.

I have:

deleted .wine directory.

Used various capitalizations of the CoH, coh directory in applications.  Don't know which it should be.

Issued "brew remove wine" ,  got:

brew remove wine

Uninstalling /usr/local/Cellar/wine/4.0.2... (8,874 files, 653.7MB)

Not sure what the latest status of this install should be.

Happy to provide any info I may have neglected to give and to take any suggestions to help get back up and running.  My other Macs, various OSs, are still working fine.

Thanks tons!

I am able to play.  When the loader shows me the tiny window on top of the larger window, I select the smaller window and push return on the keyboard.  Popped right into the splash screen then login as normal.  It was there the whole time, waiting for an enter.  How did I figure this out?  Desperation and trying everything.

Hope this helps.

OS X El Captian

Version 10.11.6

Island Rum 112420192

Tried to run Beta and it said it was the wrong one. So I rescan Island Rum and Beta disappeared from the list. When I click on the palm tree and then Manifest, nothing happens.

macOS Catalina Version 10.15.2

Downloaded Island Rum and ran it, it downloaded the game files, when I hit play it loads the wine64-preloader but nothing happens, and Island Rum crashes and I have to force close it.

Tried deleting ~/.wine, tried renaming CoH to coh, tried completely removing files and reinstalling, all the same result. Just eternal purgatory when I hit play.

Edit: Update! It's working now.

I had to choose Reset Path in Island Rum and point it at the coh folder after I launched it again, that seemed to be the issue. It was looking at the Island Rum location and not the coh folder.

Macbook Pro

OS X El Capitan

Version 10.11.6

I'm sad. Now that the safe mode is gone I can no longer access the game. For months whenever I tried to access 32-bit I'd get the Program Error box mentioned by Techulon so I've always used safe mode to play. There appears to have been an update and the only options are a greyed out 64-bit and the 32-bit which continues to give this error box.

I'm hopeful that an answer is found. When 64 first launched I was able to play it fine and it was beautiful. Afters subsequent updates I now find myself estranged from my digital home. Mac Gods please EVER be in our favor. Those of us without programming experience, who don't know how to dig into the bowels of our computers to make changes need a simple solutions posted in a section dedicated to only the latest version of the downloadable items needed to play the game on both Mac and Windows.

I think part of my issue is I hunt through this forum in desperation following directions posted in the thread, clicking on links, trying to be something I'm not.... a programmer and deleting/adding lines as recommended and I have no clue what i'm doing. I'm the one that needs the "official" here is the latest version "Click here".

...peace and blessings

Another option would be to use Bootstrap(?) or Parallels to run Windows 10 virtually. I used to do this for another game a few years ago.

Came across this a few minutes ago:

Go to pg 6 of the thread and scroll down midway.
