I've got to L43 on my Bots/FF MM and I'm really wondering what other secondary I should have gone with. FF doesn't seem to do much for my survivability. It's quite grim.

Uh.  What?

How're you built?  Chasing defense buffs?

Yeah.  Tankermind generally requires set bonuses and the various uniques.

It seems odd to me that FF is so weak and needs boosts that any MM has access to. I think I'll try another secondary.

..It only takes one Beanbag fan saying that they JRANGER it for the devs to revert it.

When comparing against other MMs, common IOs isn't exactly the way to go.
It's inefficient to slot, and FF is primarily a support Secondary.

Again, take a look, up-thread, at the Bots/FF build I dropped.

Where's Personal Force Field? That's your I Win button when you come under fire.

Agree you are overslotting your toggles and shields.

FF does more buffs for your pets than you, however.

Like many support sets, some IO set slotting goes a long way to making you tougher.

If you're not interested in sticking with FF I'd recommend Time.

However my Bots/FF was one of my tankiest characters. I can post a build is you like.

IMO you go FF because you like status protection, PFF and easy bubbles/soft cap pets, and a low maintenance secondary.

Beyond a certain point, PFF becomes somewhat superfluous.
It's kinda like taking Barrier "For a little extra defense" on a fully kitted out SR Tank.
YES, Barrier ALSO buffs Res (which is SUPER beneficial to SR).
But PRACTICAL differences between steady-state Defense in the 80's vs a fading Defense buffs in the 100's?  Zip.  Zero.  Zilch.  One less than Uno.  I man hell!  You haven't even popped Elude!

And does Elude+Barrier bumping you to 270% REALLY mean anything?

@Hyperstrike

My use for PFF on MM has always been strategic. It has a higher recharge than the Defender version, so it's important to use it economically.

Yes, it's often overkill for Defense (but the resistance is never "wasted"). But it also means it's immune to cascading defense failure and many mobs with +ACC. It's also steady state. The buff is there as long as you want it to last. The usual caveat about only affecting self, of course, during it's duration.

It's an extra tool to consider when deciding in PFF as a secondary for MM:

1. Turtling up when you take unwanted fire.

2. Aid Self with no interruptions.

3. Prevent team wipes. Works very well with Assemble the Team.

4. Ghosting through missions. Also works great with Assemble the Team.

5. QoL stuff. Safe badging. Safe AFKs. Etc.

There's a lot more versatile sets than FF. But what FF does, it does well. I was highlighting why I tend to enjoy it, and it's selling points vs other sets. It's like Super Reflexes: it's not that versatile, but it's good at what it sets out to do.

So the three major selling point to me as a MM are:

- Easy way to defense cap pets.

- Offers status protection for self, pets and team long before Clarion. Frees up a Destiny choice if you make it to Incarnate. Works even when you exemplar down.

- Situational imperviousness

- Low maintenance

I personally would pair FF only with Robots, Thugs, Ninjas or Beasts due to their interest Defense stacking. Because it has its repelling powers, I think it's a perfect match for the ranged Robots though.

Just my two Inf.

I've got to L43 on my Bots/FF MM and I'm really wondering what other secondary I should have gone with. FF doesn't seem to do much for my survivability. It's quite grim.

By itself, with only Generic IOs, yeah.  It's nothing special.

Fully optioned out, after set bonuses tune you up, put on big tires, chrome your exhaust and give you a gaudy paint job, you're far, FAR more survivable...

If you want to be godlike, pick anything.

If you want to be GOD, pick a TANK!

I just decided to finish up my Bots/FF (level 41) after leveling up and incarnating to 50+3 a Thugs/Time, Beasts/Time, Bots/Cold, Demons/Thermal and Necro/Dark.

They were all great performers, each with their strengths, but I've missed my old main, and will be completing the build.

Overall, I find my Robots/FF, Beasts/Time and Nero/Dark my most fun MMs based on a combination of mechanics, theme and play style.

I'll post my build later. As Robots/FF is a popular level 50 combination according to the devs, perhaps some will find it of use.

I'd like to see your build, Force Redux, if you don't mind sharing it.

Here you go. Capped to Ranged Defense. Things don't really get to melee you, or even care about you, since the pets are tanky and tough and don't need tankerminding. Solid resists for S/L/E as well.

I procc'd out Force Bolt, it can do respectable damage.

Question...I tried to follow this build pretty close...I'm now at 47 but I don't see Scorpion Shield as a possibility.  Am I missing something or did it change?

Yeah...there are only 4 epic powers showing as an option...I believe Ice, Fire, Electrical and something else...Scorpion doesn't look like an option

Scorpion Shield is an L1 alternate power in Mace Mastery.
You don't have to take any powers in front of it.

If you want to be godlike, pick anything.

If you want to be GOD, pick a TANK!

Have you done your Patron unlock arc?  If not, Black Scorpion's is about the shortest.
You have to have a patron unlocked to select Mace, Soul, Leviathan and Mu Mastery.

If you want to be godlike, pick anything.

If you want to be GOD, pick a TANK!

it's also one of the slowest killing mm options, 2nd only to mercs/anything.

NEVER slot heal into protector bots. it bugs out their heal script and they will stop firing it. no more than 3 slots in the shields, maneuvers, weave unless you have a specific io set in mind for them. do not slot assault. don't slot tactics unless you plan to put a tohit buff in there. if you have end problems, 3 slot stamina with perf shifter chance for end, perf shifter end, io end and three slot health with numinas, miracle's and panacea's procs.

Yes.  But you do it from what is essentially complete safety.

And remember, you're talking to a guy whose SPECIALTY is "Everything Can Be Made To Tank".
Insta-Kill isn't exactly in a Tank's wheelhouse.

*Pause for irony*

If you're lazy/patient/just have lots of time to burn, the only reason you aren't classified as a Brute (or at least a Scrapper) is cruel irony.

If you want to be godlike, pick anything.

If you want to be GOD, pick a TANK!

except it's not safe. none of the mm's are. they are the most vulnerable AT to endgame mechanics in the entire game.

you will dramatically increase your safety by killing stuff faster.
