Personally I think we're forced to take too many powers as it is.

I don't think this is true.  At least for me, I don't feel forced to pick anything.   Occasionally I have to make hard choices, but my design philosophy doesn't require Hasten or Tough/Weave, although they are on many characters.

I understand what you're saying but when you have 18 main powers and then at least 6 pool powers, you get too many choices. It is probably easier for well-seasoned veterans to know what to choose, once they've mastered a specific AT, but for a newer player they would have no clue and we have seen how taking the wrong powers and/or mismanaging them through ignorance turns them off the game which is a bad thing.

You seem like a seasoned veteran, so not sure what the problem is.  Sometimes you have to make hard choices.  That hasn't changed with this patch.

As to the bolded part, this is new info for me.  Where have we seen this?  As far as I know, most new players are former players.  For the few who have never played, I'm not sure they were turned off the game because of 'wrong powers and/or mismanaging them through ignorance'.

So, today I was playing one of my Defenders.  I have several, and they're all incredibly tedious to play, almost entirely because they run out of endurance in the course of defeating even one minion enemy.

I've been sitting here for five minutes trying to respond to this in a constructive way and.....I can't.  It's either gross exaggeration or you haven't slotted your attacks and are running a bunch of toggles.  As per usual, you don't provide a build which would help us pinpoint exactly why you're having problems.  With energy blast, even on a Defender, you should be pinballing them everywhere and if slotted properly (and actually taking at least 3 of the attacks) you should be doing plenty of damage.  Solo, you shouldn't need Radiation Emission's toggles on even con enemies unless they're bosses.  Energy Blast has terrific mitigation by itself.

I find when people say to "play the market" to be the biggest joke of all times and nine out of ten said person IS playing the market...the whole market.  I get most of my IOs from Merits be it the whole IO itself of the recipes, then using any recipe I do get in a drop and upgrading it later if I can.

I'd say anyone saying "play the market" is 100% playing the market.  Anyone can play the market.  There are numerous examples for making money on the Market forum.  Buying IOs with Merits is certainly viable, but you'd get much more efficient results by using those Merits for converter roulette.  And it doesn't take much time.  It's never been easier in the City to make as much money as you want with a little time and effort.

But I get it.  For some, "playing the market" isn't fun.  It's not very fun for me anymore either.  Once I had enough to sustain me indefinitely, I stopped actively playing the market (although I still craft all non-common recipe drops, convert them, then put them and remaining salvage on the AH).

  4. I'd start by going through your highest level toons and use Merits to make converters.  If you haven't used Merits yet, it's unlikely you'll use them in the future.  So put them to work.  If you don't want to fiddle, put the converters up for 1 influence (I'd bid creep a bit personally, but that is fiddling).  The level 41 should have a fair amount of Merits.  Use the proceeds to buy as many level 25, 30, 35, 40 generic IOs as you can.

After level 22, I much prefer to use IOs.  The more slots you have, the more expensive SOs are to upgrade.  When I was young and poor, 35 IOs seemed the best bang for the buck if there were any on the AH, often cheaper than 25 IOs.  Just buy as many as you can with that character and throw them in your SG base.  If there aren't that many up for auction, leave some bids and build as many as you can with that character. Having one character who goes after the Invention badges would continue to be a cost-effective way to fill your bins as needed.

As stated above, you're under no obligation to click on a particular thread title.  Beyond that, based on your examples, you take offense at the apparent disrespect from a specific thread by spammed similarly titled threads.  But in this particular case, people are mocking a thread posted by someone (with two posts including this one) who joined 2.5 years ago with "Not the CoX i used to know".  It took them that long to decide this isn't the game they used to know???

If you're leaving and want to post a leaving thread, at least give some specific reasons.  Otherwise......you're gonna get some mocking and derision.  Not saying that's entirely copacetic, but it is to be expected.

  6. For some power sets I like it, Radiation Armor, Dark Miasma, and Bio armor come to mind.  For most of the rest I tend to ignore it.  If you have long recharge powers that are essential to your build, I say take it.  If not, it's entirely skippable.  If I had to lean one way or the other, i'd say Hasten is optional for normal gameplay.

Edit: Hasten is also useful for attack chains.  Most(many, some?) of the highest single target damage kings use Hasten.

  7. I've seen some inane arguments on these forums, but this one is especially noteworthy (meaning the arguments post necro).  I mean.... "ontological status" ??  In reference to a gift?  Which in turn was in my mind more of a play on words from the OP than the kind of gift giving argued post necro.

I've had my own problems with Rudra's sometimes pedantic feedback, even sending him an admittedly nasty PM (I'm sorry about that Rudra, I was having a bad day).  And I don't understand why he wants no patrol xp, but I don't have to.

In cases where suggestions are QoL like the OP (meaning optional) my own preferences are irrelevant.  And imploring, berating, and whatever this is: aside from name calling, say more about you than the OP.

  8. Dragons rely on powerful claw attacks (and tail attack) as well as elemental attacks.  I'd probably go Claws/Inv/Mu for a tough melee attacker who gains powerful lightning attacks later in life.  I know dragons start life with a breath attack, but their melee attacks are powerful while the breath weapon needs to recharge.

Alternatively you could go Claws/SR as dragons are really hard to hit.  But they also have a bunch of hps, so Inv seems better as layered mitigation.  Or you could go Brute or Tank.  I'd still go Claws/Inv/Mu.

If you wanted to be more ranged and concentrate in lightning attacks, I'd go with Lightning/Inv Sentinel or a Lightning/something blaster.

Good point. I stand corrected. (Edit: Though in its case, it has a LOT of downtime with a 90 second duration and base 300 second recharge. As opposed to Shadow Fall's toggle and Faraday Cage's 4 minute duration and base 10 second recharge.)

Indeed, I was looking at Link Minds as an example as well.  Heck, make them all long recharge clicks, but the utility fits my idea of a Sentinel.  It also gives me extra incentive to skip the Fighting pool.   I love that all the Epics have a melee attack.  I'd love them more if they provided team buffs or team heals at t5.  I just don't think the summons fits the AT.

Anyway, I know the numbers are a problem, I gave what I thought were obvious caveats in my post.

  10. I'd want Dispersion Bubble for that t5.  Still kinda within the Energy theme, and although the defensive values would probably be low, such a useful power.  I like the idea of Sentinels getting team buffs or heals at t5 rather than summons.  Like I'd love to see Arctic Fog for cold, I think it's better than Snow Storm for AT theme.  Shadow Fall for dark instead of Darkest Night.  Faraday Cage instead of Summon Adept in Mu.

These are all really powerful abilities.  I'm unsure what the sacrifices would be, but I'd bet substantial.

This is also based on my personal view of the AT.

De-buffs done by a single player are pretty much lame, once you can get two or three players joining in, then de-buffing begins to be worthwhile. I can't think much can be done about it due to game standard mechanics. If you plan to solo a lot, then dump de-buff its essentially worthless and get something else.

For new players who wish to increase the difficulty and face bosses, Elite bosses, or AVs, this is terrible advice.   It's true debuffs and buffs are force multipliers in teams, but they are far from useless solo.

I see your Spoc and raise you a Picard.  Like Picard, if there is way to let both sides have what they want, that's the correct choice.

Picard would have compromised and turned off Group Flight.  Easy decision too.

I looked at that power. I could take it instead of Twilight Grasp, which I was never planning on using. Heal isn't strong enough to be clutch and it's not an AOE, so it'd be no real loss. Does Twilight Grasp need accuracy or is it a guaranteed hit? Because I didn't see any accuracy stat.

Howling Twilight is -500% regen.  Twilight Grasp is actually a huge heal and it's an AoE focused on you, it also does minor -regen. I'd drop Soul Transfer or Evasive maneuvers to keep both. I'd use only two slots for Tar Patch (50+5 recharge).  You could save another two slots by cutting two from Fearsome Stare.   The slots you save I'd use to pump Twilight Grasp.  If you're slot poor I'd frankenslot the two accurate healing sets.  It needs accuracy.  I'd 6 slot Fireball. (On second thought, I only have 5 slots: Three Scourging Blast and two Frozen Blast).

  14. Discussions about power leveling and farming are rarely about individual experienced players.  I think with a handful of exceptions, the cummunity at large doesn't give a hoot how you play.  It's not personal even if it seems so.  Again, with the caveat that there are a few posters who are more absolute in their disregard for farming and power leveling.  Most of the concern I see is about new players being power leveled.

But when is a player still new?  For my part, I'd never advocate someone power leveling their first character.  How about the second, or third?  For at least the first few times around, it's worth leveling organically for myriad reasons.  I can only think of a very few reasons why someone wouldn't.  There IS something to learning powers as you go., especially the first few times around.  For me, it's an all time thing.  I much prefer to level organically.  Yes, when I hit the late thirties on, I wish I could speed it up a bit, but til then, I love testing each power while leveling.  Leveling story arcs and TFs is still really fast.  And I get it. I've been through the leveling process hundreds of times.  The few characters I have power leveled, most into the mid thirties, sat on the bench forever.  Oh, I'd maybe look at slotting and try a respec, maybe even buy a bunch of IOs.  It just didn't work for me.  I doubt I'm alone.  The same goes proportionally for new players.

I 100% can't help you there.  The actions of the GM are mysterious; scientists debate the role GMs have in the ecosystem to this day.

Sadly, the GMs are human, with the same flaws and virtues as other humans.  Fortunately, the GMs for Homecoming are more virtuous than flawed.  Or so I believe.

    Radiation Emission.

Agreed.  Ice/Radiation sounds great for solo play.  I also like Ice/Force Field.  Not as powerful against hard targets, but extra defense, knockdown, and some mez protection., so, much safer.  A Fire Blast/Trick Arrow hover blaster sounds pretty nifty.  I've also been leveling a Storm Blaster.  Storm is great for extra knockdown, and has some Dots, so should do well on a Corruptor.  Maybe Storm/Storm or Storm/Time?  Lots of options.

So to be blunt, I find the notion that all voices and critiques are considered equal, to be a little insulting. Because they most certainly are not. And for at least a portion of the community, it doesn't matter what we say, (for or against) any particular issue. I believe the majority of feedback is read, by someone, sure. But if it's the right someone or passed onto someone who can actually make a difference one way or another, or if it immediately goes into the trash, we shall never know.

The open Beta Feedback threads show just the opposite.  The Devs not only listened, but frequently responded directly.  They listened.  Then decided.  Any decision will have some who are happy, some who are not.

I am not against change, I am simply against change for the sake of change, or "favoritism change" - IE the changes that certain (or the same) groups of people want.

I think there is some truth to this with Hardmodes.  But what if the Devs already wanted Hardmode?  Easy decision.  As for the rest of the changes, they clearly have a vision for what they want their game to look like.  So far, I've been happy with most of the changes.  Hell, my only complaints are quibbles.  I'm sorry you don't like the direction the game is going.

No idea where you're getting any of that from as I never said anything of the sort.  I'm certainly not demanding anything of anyone at HC.  Your misrepresentation of my posts are definitely more a you problem than a me problem.  Your post seems like you're looking to start an argument for the sake of starting an argument for the sake of arguing.  Thanks, but no thanks.  Not interested.

Shoot, after reading your reply and rereading mine, I came off as far more aggressive than I felt while typing it.  Sorry 'bout that.  That post definitely was a me problem.  There's a certain cadre of players who have such an intense sense of entitlement directed towards the Devs it makes my teeth hurt.

You're generally mild in comparison, but you imply a great deal about what the Devs can/should or can't/shouldn't do.  You say repeatedly that you understand they are volunteers and I believe you when you say you appreciate the work they've done...but you don't seem to take into consideration their time constraints.  What's their commute like, do they have a physically or emotionally demanding job, do they have a family...  Running Homecoming up to now was more of a hobby than a job.  Hell, not more of...it is a Hobby.

    I disagree.

How are you in any position to agree or disagree about what the Devs can or cannot do?  You think they can manage it just fine you say.  How the heck do you know?  Because it's your opinion?  If you have more technical knowledge to impart, you should let the Devs know.

Your arguments are pointless and self-centered, filled with conjecture based on what you want and what you expect.  There's a kind of hubris to your posts...like you deserve the changes you want, and the Devs are there to serve your desires.  Just my opinion.  Feel free to disagree.

  20. When I first read it, I loved the idea.  Thought it could really help say....a group of friends who wanted to try the game out.  There is strength in diverse teams, especially early mission/TF teams filled with players who can't afford SOs.

Several of the objections have been from the viewpoint of level 50 characters, including fully kitted and incarnated ones arguing about what 'role' they can or should play.  These objections are irrelevant for TFs filled with unslotted or poorly slotted teams.  And going by what my friends have said when I mentioned playing as a group; most don't want to bother with complexity, at least not right away so SOs and generic IOs appealed to them.  So much of the joy of my early experience with this game was a tank taking agro, a controller controlling, a scrapper and blaster focusing down bosses and lts.  And a defender...bubbling?  It didn't take my early group of friends long to realized that there was more to a defender than healing.  My first 50 was a bubble Defender.  I'm guessing new players here will also figure that out as they (hopefully) play different alts.

Yes, I get it, a fully kitted out level 50 is significantly more durable even in the lowest level TFs.

Most of the rest of the objections have been people concerned about team leaders requiring such and such.  And they're right.  I'm guessing there'll be a bunch of speed Yin TFs daily chasing the reward...which is not unlike what we already have.  I doubt it will affect much beyond that after a time.   I'm not gonna worry about team makeup when I join a TF.  Are you?  I'll take the occasional happy accident reward thank you, and never give it another thought.

For my part, I think the idea is neat.   But in the end, tweak it, pull it, or put it out as is....I don't feel any personal angst no matter the decision.
