We already have a villain in-game named Shock Treatment.

Yeah, noted, and not exactly a positive thing - especially as she exhibits symptoms that ECT might be used for.

We also have Pain Domination which is literally abuse as a powerset.

That's consensual. You can always boot them from your team. And some people like it to hurt.

You're not wrong there. Trading on both cultural stereotypes as well as popular culture. Don't forget the homeless, the disenfranchised, the addicted, and the military, with others.

Show me the NRA-endorsed Equilibrium/John Wu Pistol, and working Frankengun (No, the K11 doesn't count).

You're right, there are some problematics parts of the game's lore. Why add to them, when it is as simple as changing a name?

Hey, did everyone know that redside missions are your character working in service of a fascist organization trying to rule the world?

Yup, suspension of disbelief, mate. I don't think I actually can run 55 MPH, sprout spines, or teleport... Nor do I think I'm going to try and take over the world.

Can we maybe move the name feedback to another thread to keep this a bit more focused?

This is the thread for feedback on the powerset - seems to me that would include the name. Moving comments/complaints about the new support set from the general patch notes thread and into the focused thread? Legit. Moving specific complaints about the new powerset's name out from the focused thread and into an even MORE focused thread? Burying noise and minimizing visibility.

But then how will I be able to feign outrage for no real gain?

The people complaining about it seem to strictly be focusing on the misuse of the treatment, and not it's legitimate value as a last-resort.

Yes, historical misuse of treatment. Still misused as a treatment. Yes, it has valid uses in limited and last resort situations - much like medicinal methamphetamines, alcohol, and leeches.

If Electroconvulsive Therapy is so uncharged (versus Shock Therapy), why not just change the name to that?

    Hey everyone!

I've seen a lot of players reporting some concerns about the name 'Shock Therapy', but I think its time to reclaim the word. As a mental health professional, IRL - I see a lot of negative connotation associated with the treatment, however, the fact is that ECT (Electroconvulsive Therapy) has seen progress since the 1930s when it was first developed (and obtained the stigma). The therapy is still used today in rare cases (mostly in Europe) and has had success in treating several forms of severe depression, manic behaviors and bipolar personality disorders. In response to the players out there who claim its being used in "Homophobic and Sexual Orientation Conversion Therapies", those same programs
also utilize Psychoanalytic and Behavioral therapies (Which are used to treat common problems such as phobias, depression disorders, anxiety disorders as well as assisting individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder improve their quality of life, just to name a few).

The reality is that the term "Shock Therapy" isn't a 'bad' thing. Its like any other power in a world full of superpowered individuals - it comes down to how the hero...or villain...decides to use it!

Plus, let's be honest - we're running around with The 5th Column (AKA - Nazis). As well as slashing/hacking/beheading opponents with swords, guns and axes. Its a video game - let's just enjoy it and move on!

Wow, that's a not great answer from an authority figure. Kudos to you on wanting to reclaim it. However, it still has stigmas attached, there's multiple people uncomfortable with it (the fact there were THAT many comments on it in short order on the general and focused thread, and the knowledge that those who post on the forums are a subset of readers, who are a subset of players...), and I'm not sure that this is the best point/forum/hill to stand and attempt to reclaim an edge-case therapy with many issues of malpractice and stigmas. And, really, invoking Godwin's Law as a defense for the name?

And, yeah, it doesn't fit the thematic style naming of powersets in general. "Shock Therapy" sounds like a power, or a character name (i.e. Shock Treatment - BTW, a villain, who's more than a little crazy with multiple possibilities of diagnoses from DSM-5...). When most players think of a powerset, they think of the base component of it, and calling this "Electric Something" would evoke that more - Broadsword vs Disembowel, Assault Rifle vs Buckshot, Dark Miasma vs Twilight Grasp.

Here's (again) some alternate names, that both cover the cringe and thematic factors:

    Quote

    Ionic Balance

    Electrical Support

    Ionic Support

    Sapping

    Potentiated Support

    Electrical Potential

    Quote

    Super Atom's:

    Static Emission

    Electric Resonance

    Electric Affinity

    Static Flow

Or, stealing from both mine and Super Atom's: Electrical Affinity

Could also do Electric/Electrical Manipulation (much like Time Manipulation[Support] and Temporal Manipulation[Blaster]) even with Blasters having Electricity Manipulation.

Great guide and I have some questions.

If your character doesn't actually have a travel power you can still get the badge?  Does this turn off things like Hasten and Combat Jump as they are in travel power pools?

Are there different Ouro badges for blue and red side?

    Mmmmm think that is it.

Yes, you can get the badges, I don't have a travel on my main. You lose the powers themselves... IIRC, I kept Hasten, unsure if I kept CJ on "No Travels". Obviously, I lost them all on "AT powers only".

    • Thanks 1
  5. Also, as I'm now running through ALL the content redside, no challenges, since I've gotten all the badges, I'll see if I can't add any to the list...

Snake Uprising 6.02 - 3 Mission - Hunt 5, kill all, clear boss room. It is against snakes, though, which can be tough on some builds.

  6. Whelp, slowly but surely, just finished this today!

    Thanks for the guide!

Also, side-note, if you've a decent build/toon, you can stack No Insp/No Enhance on some of the lighter combat arcs, when you don't need to worry about Epics. Means 3 runs, instead of 4.

Regarding spring attack and lightning strike, I hate them.  Electric melee and electric armor are sets I have never played.  I wanted to take a lot of the powers just to see how they work, and I found they work badly! Lol.  Spring attack is also new to me so I wanted to check it out.  Hate it.

Try this... "/bind lshift+click powexecname Lightning Strike" - Makes it so that you hit LShift, then LClick with mouse, and it'll execute LS. There's also a way (googleable, don't recall) in Homecoming to bind/macro it to execute offa your target.

The experiment:  Someone told me that common level 30 IOs would function as SO++ even at level 50, so this is what Sinnocence used.  She sucks.  I used my post-ED SO only slotting knowledge and I apparently suck also. I don't want to hate her, but I kinda do now.  Rerolling is not out of the question, and certainly I am willing to respec her, multiple times if need be, if she can be salvaged.  If anyone can get me a nice, not too expensive, build to make best use of her primary and secondary, also I prefer SJ for travel, I might learn to love her again.  Thanks for your time!

They weren't too wrong, Level 30 commons are a little better than +1 SO's (with 25's being about even, and 20's being about -2 SO's). However, as has been already addressed, you have some VERY odd/atypical slotting on your Scrapper.

    My take on the build...

    Notes:

    • Shield Wall 5% Resist All Global in Combat Jumping - Expensive, but very worth it. Can swap to a Karma -KB IO, or even a common Jump if too expensive.
    • -KB IO in Super Jump - End consumption shouldn't be an issue when using Travel Powers, as you're not fighting. And this gives you 4 Mag KB Pro when you're NOT touching the ground (e.g. jumping).
    • Stealth IO in Sprint - It's a good spot for it, and can run it much like a travel power - if you're trying to be sneaky, you're not trying to fight, so End is less of an issue.
    • Epic - Don't know if you have Patron access, so changed Body for Pyre - Might not work concept wise, but the AoE can be used in the middle of a mob without scatter, and you should have MUCH better Endurance Consumption/Recovery (EndRed in all attacks, Stamina 3x, and Power Sink on a 30-40 second timer for 2/5ths your End Bar off one mob).
    • Power Surge - Due to Scrapper's lower Resist caps, just slotted for Recharge.
    • Slotting - unsure what level your toon is as, but the slot levels/power level choices are placed as if grinding from level 1.

Hope this helps, and feel free to PM or poke here if you've more questions.

  10. So, my main is Spines/Ice (on Live it was Kat/Regen, loved the toon, but he was hamstrung in top end). Absolutely LUDICROUS what I can do with him.

That said, I have a spines/ice that I find real fun.  /ice is currently one of my favorite armor sets because it’s not overly strong and has some clicks that make me feel like I’m contributing to my own survival.  Just couldn’t get into it without the minimal fx though.

Was excited to see another Spines/Ice in this thread, it is NOT common.

Technically... ...let's be honest.  If I'm at the keyboard, it's a scrapper.

Shred said it best, though. Scrapper is not an AT. It is a play/lifestyle.

It came after, as I remember.  WSTs came out the same time the Alpha incarnate slot did. It was put in as the main method of getting components to make rare/very rare alpha slots, as this was before the incarnate trials were implemented.

The incarnate stuff all came after Going Rogue, when side switching was implemented.

Feck, now I need to go read up, coulda swore iContent came first. C'est la vie. 7 years is a while.

Edit: Yup, Piyerus remembered better than I did. I18 was Going Rogue, I19.5 introduced Tier 3/4 Alpha and the WST system.

    I stand corrected.

No worries, it isn't the clearest, and IIRC, WST's came before side-switching, so there wasn't a lot of clarity on how it all worked on Live.

Yes, it's the base portal on Mercy Island.

The area for credit on that is actually about 5' above the level of the platform. Sitting on TOP of the glowy portal will also work. There's been multiple threads created in the bug forum about this.

You have to repeat the same one to get credit.  Running multiple TFs once doesn't count.  Basically, you're getting the badge for doing the same TF twice in the same week.

It has never been that way, Live or HC. Running ANY of the WST for a given week on a given toon nets the bonus rewards. Additional WST runs, of ANY of the options for that week on the same toon will net badge progress.

So, if you're a Rogue/Vigilante, and looking to min/max, run the highest Merit one first in a week, then run the quickest one the rest of the week to earn helper progress. Also, the badge progress carries over from week to week, so you don't need to run 51 TF/SF's in one week to get all the badges.

Anyone else complete the BNY mish with a villain and then have Father Time try to introduce that villain to a new contact...on blueside?  He's trying to give my villain Percy Winkley or Janet Kellum at the moment.  This is a villain who has never changed alignment.

Same here. I chose Percy. Not a major issue to me, as it was my badger, who's Rogue, and eventually going Blue for completion.

from a long history, the short of it is: most peeps don't learn from, nor appreciate, being given a complete build to copy ...horse to water, fishing, & such. posting a ss of my build seems the middle-ground to show i'm being honest (w/o inflating stats via temp clicks / incarn / acco / mob buffs / etc).

Eh, I see that. I just share the whole builds. Someone else might have a better perspective. And if they take my build and fail with it, when I've succeeded, that's player skill. If they eclipse my performance, either in build or gameplay, I'll ask to learn.

There's little to nothing gained by obfuscating information, but you do you.

Another vote for Radiation.  Makes everything go faster, and debuff aura keeps the mobs close.  I made a kinetic melee/rad scrapper whose original concept was a speedster.  That doesn't really work so well in game, but the combination has mad synergy and does great working all sorts of procs.

    Hrm... DM/Rad... seems tasty.

To third off of both these posts from May - the Mercy Island Base Portal is only giving day job credit at about 10' above the level of the portal. Standing on the same level as the platform is 0 credit, but hovering next to it and/or resting on top of the portal will grant credit.

Other day job locations in zone work fine - Pilot, Pain Specialist, Architect, Smuggler.

please do, would love to see your build and discussion around it.  claws/sr is on my list of characters to recreate on HC and having an internal debate about scrapper vs. brute.  not seeing very many examples on the forums to compare and contrast.  your build would be a great starting benchmark for the scrapper side

I know this will sound odd, but if you have not tried the regen version which is on sentinels, you should. It is a reworked version of the set, and it is actually quite good. It's not the nerfed into paste version which every other AT has. It actually manages to capture some of the feel of old regen, but still maintains a cap at what you will crumple from when you exceed that cap.

This. I'd LOVE for Sentinel Regen to be backported to the melee AT's.

I always avoided DA because of how people complained about the end use on it. But frankly the way this one is built here, my end really never drops bellow the word "menu" on the character info bar unless I hit the Heal which is a big hit end wise but nothing that puts me in trouble and I get it back within a few seconds. I was even soloing +3/8 Carnies with it tonight (no incarnates slotted yet) and even in the hudle of dying carnies stealing my end it was staying strong.

Murky Cloud provides EndDrain Resistance, which helps versus Carnies.

Dark Armor's high end costs come from spamming the heal (33 end base) and running Cloak of Fear - Coupled with attacks, and not slotting appropriately, it'll kill anyone's bar.

You don't need scrapper crits if you hit like a freight train tossed by the Hulk when pissed off that Betty called off their date that night.

Scrapper Damage > Brute Damage. Especially when self-contained +Dam is involved.

I finally got around to rolling some new characters but I only play them a few times a week in comparison I play Murcielago every day. It's hard to beat this combo.

    I offer a Spines/Ice for your perusal.
